CMS 8th Grade Merit

Please tell me you're not serious about having this nonsense sit on this site for the next five days. It's absolute hogwash. With all due respect, I am replacing the speedy. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 00:04, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

I notice that SoxBot III has recently removed the "es" interwiki links from a large number of Formula One race reports, e.g. 1998 British Grand Prix. I was wondering what was the reasoning behind this? Thanks. DH85868993 (talk) 17:36, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Your bot also did the same thing on id.wiki. Could you explain that please. borgx (talk) 03:27, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
I do not know what's going on, I'm not monitoring it at all. I am running it on autonomous mode, that's a pywikipedia problem. Soxred93 | talk bot 03:29, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

I assume the bot post is an error, please check. Thanks.ThesaiRao (talk) 08:11, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Please Sign Up for I'm proud to be a wikipedian

Hello, Soxred93! You might want to write an essay for The I'm Proud to be A Wikipedian Essay Contest. The deadline is May 1. Signed, Nothing444 17:28, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

As far as the Signpost: At this point, I probably wouldn't mention it until it becomes a bit more popular. I try not to mention contests like that unless they get to be popular, since there are a lot of contests, essays, etc. I'll keep an eye on it, though, and see whether it might be worth covering in the future. Bot status on dawiki

SoxBot now has bot status on dawiki. - Kaare (talk) 20:58, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Soxbot: Language links, one good, one bad, both removed?

I'd like you to look at a case where I think the bot removed a good link while trying to remove a bad link. Alexandra lb was trying to add a language link for Lëtzebuergesch to article 11. First done wrongly as a misspelling lb:Elef, the following edit inserted the correct link lb:Eelef. They didn't go back and fix things by deleting the wrong one (which is the other talk page posting I am working towards - they messed up 10 also).

Soxbot later came along and tried to remove the wrong link with the summary m (robot Removing: lb:Elef), only it removed both of them! Does this report make any sense? Shenme (talk) 02:04, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

No, it does not make sense. But sorry, it's a interwiki.py problem. Take it up with the pywikipedia developers, thanks! Soxred93 | talk bot 02:06, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Adminrights script

It would be a security risk to allow anyone to edit the script; they could put arbitrary JavaScript in other people's accounts, which is a serious risk (it could, for instance, be used to force the account to make edits that the user didn't want to make). The script can be updated by any administrator. Sorry for not updating it recently; I'm pretty busy in Real Life. --ais523 11:53, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Question

Hi. Maybe you can help me out with this; I saw your tool at WP:ACC. I have an account on the toolserver, but where do I actually go to create the tool? Thanks.   jj137 (talk) 21:01, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Are you looking to run a clone soon? Because it is still in beta version, new features are still to be added. The "view source" option is just so people can see what is making the tool run, and people who are good at PHP can try to suggest new features. Answering your question, however, it's not too difficult. First, you have to copy the source, and put it into your public_html/request account folder. Next, you have to put a file called database.inc inside your home folder (not your public_html folder!), with the following text inside:
<?php
$toolserver_username = get_current_user();
$toolserver_mycnf = file_get_contents("/home/".get_current_user()."/.my.cnf");
 if (!preg_match('/^\\s*password\\s*=\\s*"(.+)"\\s*$/im', $toolserver_mycnf, $toolserver_pwdlookup_matches)) die ("Can't find MySQL password");
$toolserver_password = $toolserver_pwdlookup_matches[1];
unset($toolserver_mycnf);
unset($toolserver_pwdlookup_matches);
?>
After that, create a page called acc.txt in your home folder (again, not your public_html folder), containing this text:
Date:IP Address:Username requested:Email address
Hope this works for you, best of luck! Soxred93 | talk bot 21:38, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Your tool seems to be fine - I can't (right now) think of anything that can be done to improve it; I was thinking about making a tool for something else. Thanks for your help. :)   jj137 (talk) 20:49, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Oops - now I know why I was confused: I have an account on the toolserver wiki, but still need to get access to the toolserver itself.   jj137 (talk) 20:53, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

SoxBot IV and Template sandbox

Hi, I noticed that you added some tags in the article Bloomfield Hills School District. Previously I have nominated a high school district related article for AfD for terrible lack of source, but the AfD people told that high school districts are always notable. I have not much idea about this. WP:N says that the subject should be covered in third party or secondary reliable source significantly. A google search on Bloomfield Hills School District shows many ghits [1], but I am not sure how much of them will be reliable source or the subject has been covered significantly or not. Can you please provide some opinion here. Thanks. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 21:13, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Support for <inputbox>

I thought I'd mention that when viewing this talk page under IE7, the bottom half of the Wikimood graphic doesn't appear. The problem seems to be that the space used by the subsequent <inputbox>...</inputbox> extends all the way across the screen and blanks the bottom half of the Wikimood graphic. I also see that <inputbox> isn't among the tags listed as supported in Help:HTML in wikitext, so perhaps the Wiki software doesn't handle it well. Here's the HTML code (with some line breaks added to better fit the screen) that gets delivered to my browser for the <inputbox>...</inputbox> block:

<table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
<tr>
<td align="center" bgcolor="#F8F8FF">
<form name="createbox" action="/w/index.php" method="get" class="createbox" id="createbox">
<p>
<input type='hidden' name="action" value="edit" />
<input type="hidden" name="preload" value="" />
<input type="hidden" name="editintro" value="" />
<input type="hidden" name="section" value="new" />
<input class="createboxInput" name="title" type="hidden" value="User talk:Soxred93" size="50" /><br />
<input type='submit' name="create" class="createboxButton" value="Make new section" />
</p>
</form>
</td>
</tr>
</table>

Maybe the width="100%" is the problem. Wdfarmer (talk) 08:40, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

"Orphaned" page

Hi. Your bot, SoxBot, added the "orphaned" template to Cabinet of the United Kingdom/Current cabinet. However, this is transcluded in the well-linked page Cabinet of the United Kingdom, and it looked as if someone had tagged that page! Can you prevent your bot re-tagging the "Current cabinet" page? Perhaps your bot could check pages to see if they are transcluded in other pages that aren't orphans? Or perhaps this really isn't common enough to check for generally: do you have a list of pages the bot ignores? Speaking as a lapsed bot-owner myself, keep up the good work! --RobertGtalk 12:01, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Welcome

Hi, and welcome to the Red Sox WikiProject! We are a group of (mainly) Red Sox fans who help to improve coverage related to the Boston Red Sox on Wikipedia.

Looking for somewhere to start? Here are a few suggestions.

  • You can check out topics on the main page.
  • You can add {{WikiProject Boston Red Sox}} to talk pages of Boston Red Sox-related articles, and assess them as well.
  • Check out the to do list for the WikiProject, and opt to try and complete some of those tasks.

If you have any comments, suggestions, or would like to talk about the project in general, feel free to leave a message on the talk page.

Thanks for accepting my invite.--RyRy5 (talk) 16:16, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Soxred93. Re [2], I notice that SoxBot IV and OverlordQBot differ on what a clean sandbox looks like, which might make for a botwar, but I also noticed that SoxBot is adding a \n, which it probably isn't supposed to. -- zzuuzz (talk) 03:47, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, that was a coding error. It has since been fixed. Or so I hope. We'll see in 12 hours! Soxred93 | talk bot 03:50, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

I find it very disruptive when you just dive into someone's "territory" and does somebody's else job without first asking, citing being bold and IAR. You may ask "you didn't indicate you're going to write this week." Everyone who writes Signpost (at least most) know that some sections will never ever be written until it's few hours away from publication due to being time-sensitive. Topics like Dispatches, WikiWorld, and WikiProject report can be written weeks before submission. Other topics such as In the news, Technology report, Arbitration report, and Features and admins are usually written on last day (if not the last few hours).

Anyhow, I have written my part (at User:OhanaUnited/Wikipedia Signpost) along with some updates and bits that you missed (such as one featured picture got demoted). Please, please, please try contact someone (or at least leave a message in a visible spot, not in an edit summary of your sub-userpage) before being bold and do something that ignore rules. I can't stress enough that communication is the key. OhanaUnitedTalk page 04:40, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

While I wouldn't necessarily go so far, I do agree with OhanaUnited here. The thing with the Signpost is that work is delegated, and many contributors work on a single article week-after-week. As a result, being bold in that respect is usually frowned upon, because it results in duplication of work (in fact, OhanaUnited was writing it at almost the exact same time that you were). It'd be fine for you to write an article, but please don't write one of the articles that are handled weekly by other contributors; it tends to foster negative feelings. Ral315 (talk) 05:57, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Ok, thank you for the notice. Honestly, I was unaware that it was like that. For the past few weeks, it hasn't always been the same person. Because WP:POST/N/B doesn't say that OhanaUnited is the one that did it, but someone else who hasn't done it in a while, I was led to believe anyone to do it. Ohana and Ral, I offer my sincerest apologies. Soxred93 | talk bot 12:13, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

OH-Project Tagging

Seems theres a category mess with the Category:Ohio tree

MaxSem looked into it, and in Category:Great Lakes there are some bad intersections and loops.

With it ignoring that category, i made a list of about 50k articles, which becamse 32919 with dupes removed

Which wont take as long to tag now ;)
