User talk:Youmightrecall
Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Youmightrecall, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}}
before the question. Again, welcome! NeilN talk to me 00:49, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
Username issues
[edit]Another administrator will weigh in here but I still have two concerns:
- Your username is the name of your website. This is problematic as outlined above.
- This edit adds more improperly sourced material to an article that is already has plenty of issues with sourcing. Wikipedia articles need independent secondary sourcing, not links to YouTube videos.
--NeilN talk to me 04:55, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
Dear Neil. Can I change my Username then, I am sorry I didn't know about that rule, sincerely, this profile is now about someone that doesn't exist under this Last Name and that is a problem. Secondly I don't know which article had plenty of issues with sourcing, your link directs me to the global changes page but not to a specific article, can you help me identifying this particular article. I deeply thank you in advance. Soren — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sorenland (talk • contribs) 05:04, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
- The first link in my second point shows you the large change you made to Soren Mounir. Click this link. What user name would you like to change to? --NeilN talk to me 05:09, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
Dear Neil. I would change my Username to Sorenworld. Since no changes were made at all for years there was a lot of stuff to add to this incomplete page and Bio, therefore I have replaced Mounir by Sorensen every time I had to since it is my new legal name, I have also added new skills and associated acts, only one actually which is a minimum after years of not editing this page. I can understand that a change of Last Name is not a minor change and I don't know how it can affect previous articles and the profile name actually and I thank you for helping me to do things right before future modifications. Thanks so much. S.
- I've fixed your unblock request. Another admin will be by to give their opinion. This may take a few hours. --NeilN talk to me 05:27, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
Thanks so much Neil. Have a great Day. S.
- I am not comfortable with 'Sorenworld' that still sounds promotional. Just Chilling (talk) 21:20, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
Hi. We're talking about the username not the name of the page right, which by the way has to be Soren Sorensen instead of Soren Mounir. Will you also make that change. Would the Username be OK like this : Sorenland82 or Sorenworld82, I am using Sorenland a lot as a Username because Soren only is usually taken, it's a good way to remember my Logins. Thanks in advance for your help. Soren — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.72.189.67 (talk) 21:46, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
What about creating a new page under my current name Soren Sorensen and refer to it in my old page Soren Mounir, wouldn't it be easier. Looking forward to hearing from you.
- (Non-administrator comment) It means your username can't be Sorenland or Sorenworld, or anything like that. Yoshi24517Chat Very Busy 17:36, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
Dear Floquenbeam, I thank you for your email. The reason it took me time to answer is that I was sick for over a month and I apologize. Secondly I am running in loop right now since my recent change of name is too recent to already having any new articles or references quoting my new name so far. Having said all that I guess I will have to temporarily abandon my request and this profile will not reflect the reality from now on. Could you at least add my new name to the old one and write as follows: [Soren Sorensen (Mounir)], that would be convenient. Nevertheless, I still wish you to unblock my profile so I can add information to my page and update my page. I still don't understand the point about advertising, I only added YouTube links to some of my videos or audio releases, like for a lot of other artists, among other links to my work, there were already such links on my page before. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards, (Sorenland (talk) 16:28, 22 April 2017 (UTC))
- There's no need to apologize for the delay in responding; I'm guilty of it too; I didn't realize it had been over a week since your reply. I'm coming into this a little late, but it appears from reading all of the above that there are three issues:
- Username issue: As User:Yoshi24517 indicates above, you would need to have a username that does not correspond to a business or webpage. So Sorenland82, Sorenworld82, etc. wouldn't really work.
- Identity: If I understand right, you say you are Soren Mounir/Sorensen. Yes? If so, then per our policy, before you could have a username like Soren Sorensen, you'd need to prove that (to avoid someone impersonating you). It seems like you might be saying you already did this. Is that what your email to info-en-q@wikimedia.org was about? Or was it just to document the name change, without proving you were them? Did you get a reply?
- Regardless of the username issues, assuming you are the same person, our conflict of interest guidelines really discourage people adding things to articles about themselves (see Neil's post below). Even if we know you are you, we generally need to see information in reliable sources before it can be included in the article, to prevent intentional or unintentional self promotion. It's best to suggest such things on the article talk page. Would you be willing to agree to abide by the procedures outlined in that guideline?
- I think all these things can be overcome, but they do need to be ironed out. I will endeavor to give more timely replies. Also pinging @NeilN:, to see if I'm missing anything and in case I'm misunderstood something he's said. --Floquenbeam (talk) 20:13, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Floquenbeam: No, you've covered it all. Once unblocked following our conflict of interest guidelines will be key. --NeilN talk to me 20:23, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
Dear Floquenbeam, I thank you for your very careful and kind answer, thanks to Neil as well. Like many people I didn't read the guidelines fully and carefully and I am sorry. I am indeed Soren Sorensen formerly Mounir and I am not interested in doing self-promotion on my Wikipedia page. Since I have changed my name I think it should appear on my Wikipedia page to match the reality with my civil status. From what I understand I myself can't make this change. Now how can I change my username, it's a username I use in general indeed that is related to my names. I wish my profile will be unblocked, I wish my last name Sorensen could be mentioned next to my name Soren, I wish to change my username to 'youmightrecall'. I will do my homework by reading the guidelines to not make mistakes in the future. I am looking forward to hearing from you. (Sorenland
- That's a perfectly cromulent username; I'll get the attention of someone able to change usernames, and get it changed to User:Youmightrecall. It also means we don't have to go through the hassle of confirming you're you via email. That only leave the COI issue, and the name change (the real name change, not your user name). For the COI issue, you've agreed to read and follow WP:COI, so I'm prepared to unblock after we get your username changed. For the name change, we can't just take your word for it (before you get too annoyed, imagine if some troll created an account with your name, claimed they were you, and said "I have recently officially changed my name to Soren Gumplefutz"; you wouldn't want us acting on that, right?) Is there anything (official website, article somewhere, etc) that we can use as a source for the name change? We don't actually have to solve this issue before the unblock; it can be dealt with on the article talkpage (which I will watchlist) after the unblock. Hang on until the username is changed. --Floquenbeam (talk) 21:04, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
Dear Flockenbeam. I must say that I like your humour and that I laughed out loud about your change of last name example :) Thanks for making the username change. Now about the last name change I remember having suggested sending scans of my ID and Passport but it was rejected. I can still do it. Anyhow, where can I send anything to help you making the name change I am asking for. Thanks in advance for your answer. (Sorenland
- I'm a little surprised this doesn't show up on your official webpage. If you still go by Soren Mounir professionally, we might want to keep the article name as-is, just because we usually go by WP:common name. I'm admittedly a little out of my depth here - don't usually deal with this kind of question - but I don't think scanned passports are the way to go here. It should show up in something we consider a reliable source first. I realize it seems kind of byzantine, but you'll have to take my word for it that editing articles about, say, sparrows, usually doesn't cause such complications. People wanting to make changes to articles about themselves is one of the trickier situations we have, because there are so many competing concerns. I've asked someone to do the rename, hopefully they can help out when they get back online. I'm going offline myself, will check back in tomorrow. --Floquenbeam (talk) 21:25, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
Dear Floquenbeam. I know this is weird i have to deal everyday with administrative issues since I have changed my name in July 2016. Since then I go by Soren Sorensen only and it could appear like this on my Wikipedia page Soren Sorensen (Mounir) since some of my past major work was done under my last name Mounir. Where can I send my scans. Have a nice day. (Sorenland
- Actually I'm still puttering around, and I see your username has been changed already. So I've unblocked your account, based on your agreement above to read and follow our WP:COI policy.. --Floquenbeam (talk) 22:25, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Sorenland. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:
- avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
- instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
- when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. NeilN talk to me 04:56, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
