June 2013

[edit]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to The Blanton–Webster Band may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
  • #"[[Do Nothing till You Hear from Me]Concerto for Cootie]]" – 3:19
  • #"My Greatest Mistake" (Jack Fulton), Jack O'Brien) – 3:27

Thanks, BracketBot (talk) 04:34, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Translations

[edit]

Hello! I saw you were listed in the german-to-english active translators list, and I was wondering if you could take a quick look at the German sources in the Tamaskan Dog article and let me know if they look like they are self published, or written by the tamaskan breed promoters? I don't speak a lick of german but I'm finding that most of what is printed about this dog was written by people in their little club. Thank you! --TKK bark ! 15:36, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Tikuko. I tried looking at them, but am having trouble deciphering the blur on this screen (zooming in just amplifies the blur). I'll have a look at in Saturday or Sunday, when more ably equipped.. ---Sluzzelin talk 23:04, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

German translation

[edit]

Hello. I was on Wikipedia:Translators available and notice that you were on the list for German to English translators and wondered if you could translate content from de:Ludwig Gaston von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha to Prince Ludwig Gaston of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha?--The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 20:42, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Spy. I'll give it a shot on Sunday. ---Sluzzelin talk 23:04, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I see you've asked others who were quicker (unfortunately I didn't notice those changes until I had translated about a third). ---Sluzzelin talk 21:58, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Image removal

[edit]

Hi, I see that you removed my image link at the ref desk (Belvedere). I'm a little confused. If the image is considered appropriate for a page about the artwork, why is it not appropriate for the ref desk? Alternately, if we're being very officious, should it perhaps be removed from the article? Most of our articles about famous works of art contain a low-res image, but I must admit I never bother to check into licensing. Anyway, I appreciate the way you still kept my link in, and I don't want to argue about anything, just curious as to how you're interpreting/enforcing the rules. Thanks, SemanticMantis (talk) 12:53, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I see now that the "fair use" disclaimer associated with the image seems to think that the image is ok on the artwork's page, but that the image may be in violation if used elsewhere... still, isn't discussing what the name of the artwork means "critical commentary", and hence fair use? SemanticMantis (talk) 12:56, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm the first to admit it's confusing and won't pretend I really understand it. As you said elsewhere I was erring on the side of caution, but I sincerely apologize for making you waste your time trying to figure this out and for having removed a good contribution (I did think your illustration made the thread more attractive; I've loved Escher since childhood). I replied at the talk page discussion and asked Angr to consult us. ---Sluzzelin talk 22:56, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I gave this user a warning, hopefully he wont remove content again.--Mishae (talk) 23:16, 22 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, thanks, I'm lazy and suck at the warning thing. I sometimes warn (or rather welcome or leave a dry request to stop) when it's over the top or when the user is registered. I do check the contributions of those I've recently reverted though. Anyway, thank you for your efforts. ---Sluzzelin talk 00:32, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
Thanks for politely correcting me and for watching my back afterwards. Sorry this barnstar isn't as creative as some you've been given. Bbb23 (talk) 22:49, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's very kind of you yourself, thank you! It looks like the initiator of what prompted this exchange has been blocked for not being here to build an encyclopedia. I had only caught your edit summary, and thought it best to leave it up to you what to do, just wanted to make sure you knew about the odd fact that the buzzing ANI is subordinate to the slightly less lively AN, and thus apparently has no talk page of its own. I only figured that out recently too! Take care. ---Sluzzelin talk 23:06, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, I've got no problem with gsw. Thanks for the barnstar!  Sandstein  18:06, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

An award for a Klugscheißer

[edit]

OK, Herr K., that deserves this:

Our motto: "It's only hard if you make it hard"

The PENISS Prize
On behalf of the People Encouraging Niceness (and/or Eschewing Nastiness) In Society Society, I hereby award you the PENISS Prize.

The prize is the highest (and sole) honour in the gift of the Society and is awarded irregularly, on merit. It entitles the awardee to the postnominal letters P.E.N.I.S.S. (in appropriate contexts, of course).

It confers automatic membership of the Society, and it thus bestows the power to award the prize to others*, and they to others, in perpetuity. .

Remember, the more PENISSes in the world, the better for all of us. What a nice thought. Please continue your good work!

* To present this award to others, simply type {{subst:User:JackofOz/PENISS}} on their talk page, and then sign and date your post.

Congratulations. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 22:21, 16 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A belated thank you

[edit]

My apologies for taking so long to express my gratitude for the nice, relaxed horses; it's been kind of hectic lately, but that is a poor excuse. I thank you especially for your great compliment - and yes, it's something of a statement on Wikipedia that being called "reasonable" should be considered high praise. I'll admit I'm glad that the 5-year tour of duty is nearly complete (with open cases, I'll probably finish mid-January), and I do know there are some things I've worked on that will have to be left for the new team. I'm hopeful that they're up to the challenge, and that the few kinks that often come up during the early weeks can be worked out in an effective way. There is a big opportunity to move Arbcom in some new directions, and to re-examine how it's doing certain things, and I hope that the 2014 team will keep things moving. [edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Raphael Urweider, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Samuel Schwarz (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I responded at the desk. (basically saying you should ignore all my responses to your question). Sorry for letting you down. But wait around, and I hope you'll have your answer. ---Sluzzelin talk 19:51, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Who is "you"?

[edit]

Hi. I hope all those "you"s and other words ("officious") here were not meant for me personally. I hope not, but it sure reads that way, and I end up wondering what I may have done to offend you. You seemed to be in a bad mood, and maybe it spilled over ... Cheers. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 00:20, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No way, amended. Not in a bad mood, just baked, oh and also fed up by officiousness paired with crappy replies at the reference desks, neither of which characteristics apply to you, my very dear friend. I'm sorry for carelessly causing confusion. ---Sluzzelin talk 00:36, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
