We have guidelines here for how to open a biography. It opens now with is an Australian author, professor, and Samuel Candler Dobbs Professor at Emory University., which is good because it identifies the nationality. That is considered standard.
Typically we put birth year in the first sentence. I noticed it's present in the current version of the article, but there's no reliable source cited to support that it's her birth year. You should include it if you find a source.
