Block unregistered users on BGT page?

See WikiProject User warnings. The Table of Template tab has all the standardized warning templates. Most have 4 levels. Once they've received a level 4, then you can submit the IP for blocking. Unless the vandalism is coming from multiple IPs, that's usually the way to go... Skyerise (talk) 16:11, 20 February 2020 (UTC)

BTW, it would be nice if we could verify the UH motto. The version they have on their website is apparently corrupted. It doesn't match the orthography engraved on the gate out front (it writes apau 'all' as two words). I wrote them but haven't heard back yet.

In the submission of the gate to be a cultural monument, it is transcribed

Maluna aʻe o nā lāhui āpau ke ola ke kānaka

though it doesn't look as if there are any macrons in the actual inscription (though the photo is blurry). But there's a point I don't understand: kānaka is the plural of kanaka, but ke is singular. Can you have a singular article with a plural noun in Hawaiian? Maybe something like nā kānaka 'the peoples', ke kānaka 'the people', ke kanaka 'the person'? I don't know any. But my understanding is that ke isn't really equivalent to 'the', that's just the best translation, so who knows how it behaves. It's just that every version of the motto I see has something that seems potentially wrong with it. — kwami (talk) 22:23, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

I am puzzled that you reverted my edit for triviality. Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger are major figures in their field and highly notable: "Kilroy was here" is one of their best-known works, and indeed it is not a random title but highly germane to the lyric. @Brownturkey:, sure. The issue is that notability is not inherited. The notability of a popular culture referenece does not depend on the notability of its source, but rather on whether the reference itself has been found notable as indicated by being pointed out and discussed in reliable sources. Since you did not provide a source, there was no support for the notability. Many people think it is sufficient to point to the reference itself, but that is not the case. The details of what level of support a cultural references should have can be found at WP:IPCEXAMPLES. Also, the reference should shed light or expand the understanding of the subject of the article the list is in. If it doesn't, then it should be mentioned in the article about the book, song, or other reference itself rather than the article of the thing it refers to. Ok thanks that makes sense. I suspect that such a source does exist (there is a vast literature on MacColl, and in the song he used "Kilroy" as a proxy for the invisible manual worker), and if/when I find such a source I will reinstate and cite Brownturkey (talk) 14:29, 4 August 2020 (UTC).
