As you already do F5 patrolling, the following list might be of use: [[1]], although it might need to be updated periodically.

The items on it are of 3 types : i) 'Free' media which although has multiple revisions in existence, the revisions are image processing modifications of what is essentially the same image.

ii) Media which needs to be 'de-merged', where one or more revision is not a simple image processing modifcation, or different media entirely.

iii) Resized non-free content - of which 'out-size' revisions may need to be deleted under F5.

Removing type (iii) from the list, will greatly assist in being able to find type(ii) for de-mergeing. :) Sfan00 IMG (talk) 15:51, 15 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Skier Dude, thank you for your note regarding the VPC logo file. It appeared orphaned as I hadn't yet added it to The Voter Participation Center's article, but since I have now added the logo, I've removed the deletion template. Please let me know if there's anything else that I need to do. Thanks! Sylvanshine (talk) 16:05, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Skier Dude. As you probably know, when nominating files for deletion at WP:FFD using twinkle, it occasionally fails to list the file. Because of this bug, I have set up a program to generate a list of files nominated for deletion without an associated nomination. A few of the files you nominated for deletion came up in the report, so I thought you might be interested in this list. Regards, FASTILY (TALK) 21:33, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

3x Upper Florentine Valley - images gone

[edit]

Hey Skier Dude,

Any reason why the 3 images I uploaded are gone? I had permission from the photographers to upload them to Wikipedia. These Are:

Sdesalas (talk) 20:32, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

When you uploaded the image you saw the following warning:
The use of this file is permitted only on Wikipedia.

This media file, which you just uploaded, has been listed for speedy deletion because you indicated that only Wikipedia has permission to use this file. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, since explicit permission to use it was given, this is in fact not the case. [2] [3] Please do not upload any more files with this restriction on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it. See our non-free content guidelines for more information.

If you created this media file and want it to be kept on Wikipedia, remove this message and replace this with {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want it to be used on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may replace this message with one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

These images are immediately deleted. As you claimed you have permission to upload these images, you must go through WP:OTRS (follow that link) to assure that the claims of permission are received and recorded with the Wiki Foundation. Skier Dude (talk) 20:32, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Artifact Question?

[edit]

Hi Skier Dude - Thanks for helping me replace out a graphic for Warren Chaney. I have a graphic question on that page that I'm hopeful you can help me with. Above the entry photo there is an artifact that I cannot figure out - either what it is, how it got there, or how to remove it. Above the graphic and beneath the "name" is the artifact: [[File: |frameless|alt=]]. I don't know whether it is from the way I loaded the graphic or something else I did. I would appreciate any help in removing it whenever you have the time.

Best regards (Robert) Sinclairindex (talk) 15:38, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done Infoboxes aren't consistent in how they deal with images sometimes you have to give the full "[[:File:...]]", sometimes it's just "File:" and sometimes no wiki-markup isn't needed - just trial and error sometimes to figure out which one is needed :) Skier Dude (talk) 17:21, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much! I was at a loss. I appreciate both the explanation and the fix. (Robert) Sinclairindex (talk) 17:52, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A number of images in this list were non-free and I removed them some time ago. In response User:Hoops gza has over several months reinstated many or replaced them with other images (mostly these seem to be the same images possibly from differnt sources but that is not the point and I did not do an in depth review of each one). However, he is using the copyright tag {{PD-EU-no author disclosure}} but has failed to comply with all the terms of that tag which are quite detailed in the tag itself, so there should be no excuse for no complying. There is no evidence of the age of the images (many can no doubt be inferred), nor any details or evidence that an author search of any kind has been made, nor has a US acceptable PD tag been added as required by the use of the {{PD-EU-no author disclosure}} tag. In my view, I suspect they are still essentially non-free because I doubt a US acceptable PD tag can be added, so at the very least they would then need to be removed from the list per WP:NFLISTS and other uses in biographical would require a new fully completed fair-use rationale and some other uses might need removal unless WP:NFCC is fully complied with.

I posted this problems on his talk page yesterday evening and since then he has uploaded and added a few more images but without a response but it is early days. I am not in a hurry to start any deletion nominations but would like some input from another experienced editor. What experience have you had with this copyright tag and what are you thoughts? Thanks ww2censor (talk) 16:45, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A really quick look at the images there leads me to believe that the majority of those images are probably best licensed with the CC-by SA-3.0-Germany found here, which can be seen used correct on commons with this image. IMHO the German version [4] appears to cover this situation. Skier Dude (talk) 17:29, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That a quick and interesting solution. I did not think of looking for a better tag. While the commons uses a rather detailed template commons:Template:Cc-by-sa-3.0-de the en wiki version over here {{Cc-by-sa-3.0-de}} is extremely sparse. Should the template here be expanded to replicate the commons one or move the image to the commons at the same time as applying the commons template. ww2censor (talk) 17:54, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm about to lose my internet connection - but I'll update the template here to better reflect the commons version, probably later tonight... Skier Dude (talk) 17:57, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No hurry. ww2censor (talk) 18:06, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Screwed up?

[edit]

Hi Skier Dude, I am thinking I screwed up on including CSD:F3 on File:Ichha Tapasya.jpg?[5] I was kinda thinking that once I saw the results (I don't image tag much). My intent was to indicate that the actual license wasn't suited (copyright... all rights reserved, etc), but I'm beginning to think that F3 is in relation to the license stated on the image/file page, regardless of the actual license? Am I now understanding that correctly? Thanks, Rob ROBERTMFROMLI | TK/CN 03:26, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The "mulitple" was a fine way to tag it - the F9 is the most appropriate when there's a clear link to the image & the copyright pages that shows what was given here was a clear copyright violation. The F3 is usually used when there's something noted here (usually here, but not necessarily , it can be on the source as well) that notes "no derivative use", "for Wikipedia use only" or "used with permission" (that last one can also be G11 tagged, asking for the proof of ermission to be given. They're all on Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion Skier Dude (talk) 03:32, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Much thanks. Got all the G's down pretty well. Need to read through the F's more thoroughly. Thanks again! -Rob ROBERTMFROMLI | TK/CN 03:33, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Question regarding sports uniforms files

[edit]

Hey,

Noticed that on October 25 you deleted the past versions of the diagrams of major pro sports teams' uniforms. While I understand that your rationale was that these were unused versions of trademarked/copyrighted designs and have potential NFCC issues. But my concern is that each version is based on previous work, and I'm wondering what implication that has on attribution requirements under the licensing requirements. Just looking for some clarification here.oknazevad (talk) 21:52, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Attribution is always tracable by any admin/sysop and most importantly, by the foundations offices, who have access to all revisions of every image that has been uploaded (with the odd exception of those images lost a couple of years ago in the 'great file loss'). Skier Dude (talk) 00:38, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, figured there was something like that. I also realized after (accidentally double-, my bad) posted that there's still a log of each time a version was uploaded in the page history. My only remaining concern is it makes it impossible to revert if the latest version contains an error. I've had to do that twice for the Mets in recent months, so it does make it harder to work with. But sometimes that's necessary for legal reasons. oknazevad (talk) 00:45, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you ever need a visible deleted reversion, you can post a note on any admins' page or at Requests for undeletion... Skier Dude (talk) 00:47, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the image to another article and changed the NFUR accordingly. Is it ok to remove the template, or should it stay in place in case the addition of the image is challenged? Mjroots (talk) 05:24, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that, didn't want to remove it myself as I had a COI in this matter, being the original uploader. I don't upload that many fair use images, but I feel this one is important enough to be used. Mjroots (talk) 05:32, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Canada Education Programme - the need to reinstate stub articles

[edit]

Hi Skier Dude,

Could you, please, restore, the stub articles that you deleted and that were linked to from the lists of topics from the Intellectual Property Law course taught at the University of Toronto that is part of the Wikipedia Canada Education programme? Please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Canada_Education_Program/Courses/Intellectual_Property:_Copyright,_Trademark_and_Patent_%28Ariel_Katz%29

and scroll down to week 3 to the list of assignments topics that also act as hyperlinks to already posted articles (at the top of the list) or the deleted stubs (the second half of the list).

It is important that they are restored promptly. Thank you Anna Szot-Sacawa (talk) 18:08, 31 October 2011 (UTC)Anna Szot-Sacawa[reply]

You'll need to be a bit more specific - I'm not seeing any links on that page that were deleted by me. Introduction to Intellectual Property Law in Canada & Passing off; trademark registration in Canadian law are the only deleted items in that list. I'm not entirely sure what you did at File:CSLewis Perelandra.jpg and File:CSLewis ThatHideousStrength.jpg (revdel? doesn't that leave a struck-through entry in the history?), but might you want to do the same thing at File:CSLewis OutOfTheSilentPlanet.jpg? Deor (talk) 10:28, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, just an "F5" deletion of the old revisions - done here too-- thanks! Skier Dude (talk) 04:22, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The easiest way is to put a request on Wikipedia:Files for upload‎ with the appropriate information asked for there. Someone familiar with copyright & image upload will look at it relatively quickly. Skier Dude (talk) 04:24, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Help Query

[edit]

Hi,

I am still new to editing articles here on wikipedia, so would welcome a little bit of help. I understand that the image that I'd uploaded has been deleted because of it being 'non free' but it was a the logo of the circuit on which the F1 Indian GP took place. I can't understand why it was removed because its kind of unrealistic for us to take permission from the respective company or organization to use their logo here on wikipedia. Please help me understand how I can then use logos or images that are publicly available or that available on news websites.

Another thing, I notice that the image that I had uploaded has been uploaded again on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Indian_GP_Logo_-_Buddh_International_Circuit.jpg on the article page of 'Buddh International Circuit'. I fail to understand as to how this time it was allowed by the concerned user.

Hope to hear from you soon. :-) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cjain90 (talkcontribs) 13:56, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free images don't need permission from the owner/organization for use - ergo the "fair use" requirements. You'll notice the File:Indian GP Logo - Buddh International Circuit.jpg has the license and fair use rationale and is used on an article, whereas File:Buddh International Circuit logo.jpg (which was a substantive duplicate of the first) even with the license & rationale isn't used - this it can be deleted under the F5 criteria. Orphaned non-free image File:Space Patrol Cast-Photo.jpg

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Space Patrol Cast-Photo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media). Skier Dude (talk) 04:07, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Skier Dude
Thanks for catching this. It took me forever to locate this image that was in good enough condition to use and then have done it - I forgot to add to to the article. However, I have since added it to Space Patrol (1950 TV series) and removed the orphan tax.
Thanks again - Best regards - Sinclairindex (talk) 21:28, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

I am not showing that I have any items in your deleted images/files list. However, I do note two main problems with your uploads: 1) You do not give a linkable source to the images - and - 2) you do not provide an appropriate templated license (see Wikipedia:File copyright tags) Without those two basic items the images will be deleted in due course. More information can be found at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions If you have a specific image that you're referring to - please give the name here & I will look at it. Ouch! You've used a template to send a message to an experienced editor. Please review Wikipedia:Don't template the regulars or maybe listen to a little advice. Doesn't this feel cold, impersonal, and canned? It's meant in good humour. Best wishes.

I did not wish to have to come back to the project, but your continued additions of file messages has caused me to. Please stop leaving messages regarding my uploads. If you continue I shall raise this with an admin. Vanished 1850 (talk) 01:51, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That photo is the property of Judy Prescott. Perhaps I didn't fill out the photo documentation correctly. If so, could you please give me a few tips on how to do that so the photo has the proper accreditation and copyright information.

Thank you. Njnorland (talk) 00:30, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you re-add an image that obviously fails WP:NFCC? If a non-free image is removed from an article, there is likely a good reason for that. Regards, Theleftorium (talk) 10:38, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Because the image has a valid Fair Use Rationale and there is no specific explanation as to the removal of the image - thus it was reinserted... It would seem that this is an issue of a disputed fair use rationale and not one of simply removing the image without explanation. Skier Dude (talk) 02:00, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is regarding the deletion of article Dr.Gopal Kundu. I want to inform you that, Dr.Gopal Kundu is a former scientist in National Centre for Cell Science(i.e.NCCS) located in Pune,India. He is very well known for his work. And this article comes under Biography category of wikipedia. The reason why it had been deleted before is due to, orphan article, and some of the contents of the articles are similar to www.nccs.res.in/gck.html. It is because he works there, so please don't delete his article this time.

Thanks & regards, Shrikant101 I am a representative of Dr.Gopal Kundu

Why did you delete Epsilon eridani dustring.gif?

[edit]

Hi, I'm hoping you can provide an explanation for why you deleted File:Epsilon eridani dustring.gif. I sent OTRS an email with clear evidence of permission when I uploaded the file. There is a backlog at OTRS and the file was clearly marked at the top by OTRS with a note saying to NOT DELETE the file until December because of the backlog. This image was uploaded so that another editor could use it in a FAC. I don't think the file should have been punished because of an OTRS backlog. AstroCog (talk) 03:53, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Since most admins have no access to the OTRS (and yes, I did see the notice on the OTRS page), there is no way to confirm that any e-mail had been sent, received, etc., and naturally, no way to confirm the status of any claims made about OTRS; thus it fails F11 until that point in time the ticket is placed. It's simply the "nature of the beast", so to speak, and once the OTRS ticket is provided, an OTRS admin can restore the image. I am constantly frustrated with OTRS, but since it is the only system we have for verification, we're stuck with using it. Skier Dude (talk) 04:00, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Help with image attribution

[edit]

Hi Skier Dude. I am really concerned may I have made a mistake with an image I uploaded. The pic in question is File:Ego Leonard in Brighton 2008.jpg. I found the original here. Tweaked and cropped it, but when I uploaded it, I wasn't asked for attribution. Possible bad mistake on my part: just went ahead and continued with the upload; relevant article is Ego Leonard. Though the original had a cc license, it is obviously not my own work, and so not mine to release with whatever license. I'm very much more than a bit stoopid when it comes to image licensing. Could you possibly help me out here? If needs be, I would still learn a valuable lesson from its speedy deletion rationale. Your help would be most appreciated! --Shirt58 (talk) 11:34, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The original was initially licensed as CC-attribution-non-comercial [6], which is not compatible with 'free' images on Wikipedia. You've got a couple of choices 1) Change the license to a non-free license from Wikipedia:File copyright tags/Non-free - possibly {{Non-free 3D art}} or {{Non-free character}} and add a "fair use rationale" for its use. 2) Write to the owner and ask them to send an e-mail to Wikipedia through the WP:OTRS system (permissions-en@wikimedia.org), which will then clear the image for Wiki use. Hope this helps; just drop me a line here if there's other questions. Skier Dude (talk) 01:52, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for the advice. First of all, I've tagged the image for speedy deletion, to avoid getting myself into any further shizzle.
Though I'm pretty much an inhabitant of the fine capital city of Idaho about image licensing, I think a fair use rationale might be drawing a rather long bow.
I'll contact the person, and see how we get on.
Thanks again, --Shirt58 (talk) 12:44, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

User Mtking

[edit]

Hello, Skier Dude. Please lock the user Mtking weekly for repeated removal of an important part of the article America's Next Top Model, Cycle 16 (call-out order). In the Internet sources on the table none. Mtking already tired of their demands to add a source. I already wrote to him that in the other seasons references to the table is not given. It seems Mtking do not understand. I hope that blocking would be beneficial him. I hope you will support me. Thanks. KIRILL95 (talk) 14:25, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that now it came to him.KIRILL95 (talk) 16:35, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Melanie Fontana

[edit]

Skiedude, what is the chance of pulling up a screen shot of the PAST Melanie Fontana page and emailing it to us..even via a LINK so we can edit, fix, repost and CITE ALL SOURCES properly??? It was well written and we hate to have to start from scratch again. If you can do that for us...we'd greatly appreciate it. You can email that to jfontana57@cox.net or melfontanamusic@yahoo.com

Evidently you didn't read the above - I do not use e-mail for Wiki concerns. You can place a note on WP:Requests for undeletion, asking that the information be e-mailed to you. Skier Dude (talk) 01:37, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think the creator of the graph, Dilip rajeev, was linking to the website that holds the video from which he gained the data to compile the graph. The graph itself does not appear on the website, nor in the video, so there is no need for permission from the website. I have adjusted the template so that it might better reflect the circumstances. The author of the graph, User:Dilip rajeev, has already explicitly given his permission to use the graph, so there is no need to go via permissions. The only dispute might be over the rights to the data, but as Dilip rajeev has linked to the source of the data, I think that's fine. SilkTork ✔Tea time 16:20, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I won't be the closing admin on that, it will be up to him/her to make the determination. As you've mentioned "given his permission", that may be an issue that would be best resovled using the OTRS permissions so that there will be no future questions regarding the release of the data and/or the related images. Skier Dude (talk) 02:58, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to confuse you, I was simply letting you know as a courtesy that you had tagged the file in error so you could remove the tag yourself if you wanted. I understand why you made the mistake, and I didn't want to simply remove the tag without letting you know. I've now removed the tag. No need to go via OTRS as the creator and uploader is a Wikipedia user and has clearly given permission for anyone to use the graph. SilkTork ✔Tea time 10:08, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

2235

[edit]

I was never warned. Though I don't care, you didn't follow due process. Daniel Christensen (talk) 21:22, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I presume that you're speaking of Marantz 2235, which was nominated on 4 Nov via WP:Prod for deletion. There were no changes made in the article after that date, i.e. it was not contested or improved to address the concerns of the prod, and was deleted following due process on 12 Nov. If you would like the deletion of this reviewed, you can take it to WP:Requests for undeletion or WP:Deletion review. Skier Dude (talk) 03:04, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I was never warned that it was nominated for deletion, so of course I did nothing. It wasn't you, actually, it was whoever nominated it that failed to warn me. Sorry for yelling at you. Daniel Christensen (talk) 12:39, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
