Image:BobWeir.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:BobWeir.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add Replaceable fair use disputed, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Oden 07:38, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:ACDCQuartet.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:ACDCQuartet.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 12:29, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Wright-Williams-Johnson.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Wright-Williams-Johnson.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. I have tagged Image:Rudd-Williams-Scott.jpg as no rationale, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. If you wish to object to its deletion, please list your objection here and feel free to remove the deprecated tag from the template. If you feel the deletion is appropriate, no further action is necessary. Thanks for your attention. --MZMcBride 02:25, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Rudd-Evans-Scott.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 14:32, 26 August 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 14:32, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

Two's Up

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Two's Up, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Fair use rationale for Image:Jefferson airplane.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Jefferson airplane.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 14:07, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Badfinger1.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Badfinger1.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Allstarr.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add , without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. Proposed deletion of In the Beginning (AC/DC album)

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article In the Beginning (AC/DC album), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Hello. Concerning your contribution, Image:BeachBoys.jpg, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/03/21/2196449.htm. As a copyright violation, Image:BeachBoys.jpg appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Image:BeachBoys.jpg has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Image:BeachBoys.jpg and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Image:BeachBoys.jpg with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Image:BeachBoys.jpg.

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. Thank you. MilborneOne (talk) 22:34, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.

AfD nomination of Mark Matejka

[edit]

I have nominated Mark Matejka, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mark Matejka. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. An article you created maybe deleted soon: Tools which can help you

[edit]

The article you created, Mark_Matejka maybe deleted from Wikipedia.

There is an ongoing debate about whether your article should be deleted here:

The faster your respond, the better chance the article you created can be saved. This is because deletion debates only stay open for a few days, and the first comments are usually the most important.

There are several tools and other editors who can help you keep the page from being deleted forever:

  1. You can list the page up for deletion on Article Rescue Squadron. If you need help listing your page, add a comment on the Article Rescue Squadron talk page.
  2. You can request a mentor to help explain to you all of the complex rules that editors use to get a page deleted, here: Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User. But don't wait for a mentor to respond on the deletion page.
  3. When try to delete a page, veteran editors love to use a lot of rule acronyms. Don't let these acronyms intimidate you.
Here is a list of your own acronyms you can use yourself: WP:Deletion debate acronyms which may support the page you created being kept.
Acronyms in deletion debates are sometimes incorrectly used, or ignore rules or exceptions.
  4. You can merge the article into a larger or better established article on the same topic.

If your page is deleted, you still have many options available. Good luck! travb (talk) 03:31, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Robin (musician)

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Robin (musician), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Lacks references or sources to prove the validity or importance of the person. This information could easily be merged into the main Mötley Crüe page if necessary, but I don't see the need.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. magnius (talk) 11:32, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Donna Jean Godchaux Band

[edit]

Greetings, Sk8punk3d288. I see that you've renamed the article "Donna Jean Godchaux Band with Jeff Mattson" to "Donna Jean Godchaux Band ". A rename is a big change for an article, and it's usually preferable to propose renames on the article talk page first. That gives multiple editors a chance to weigh in with their opinions and try to form a consensus. In this particular case, there was already a discussion about this -- see Talk:Donna Jean Godchaux Band#Article rename. You'll see that the editors involved -- all two of us -- had agreed to leave the article name the way it was. You'll also see that I had somewhat mixed emotions about this, and in fact I don't really have a problem with the new article name. I'm only saying that it would have been better to discuss it first. By the way, thanks for your various contributions to articles related to the Grateful Dead. (If you reply here I will see what you say.) Mudwater (Talk) 23:57, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Party Bike.jpg may be deleted soon if you don't take action

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Party Bike.jpg. It's a really cool picture. But unfortunately, its licensing status is unclear.

You claim that the picture is not copyrighted. But AFAIK under U.S. law, every single picture that anyone takes automatically is copyrighted unless they take specific action to release the picture to the public domain.

Wikipedia is strict about image licensing so that anyone will be free to sell Wikipedia on CD-ROM, or to edit any picture, or to do certain other things, without needing to ask permission first.

Who pressed the shutter button and took the picture? If it is you, please edit the description and say so. Also remove the di-no permission tag.

If it's your friend who pressed the shutter, please ask him or her to email permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating his or her ownership of the material and his or her intention to release it to the public domain. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If neither of those things happen within seven days, your image will be deleted from Wikipedia.

Thanks again for uploading the picture, but make sure to do something about it -- and next time, if you're not sure if the licensing status on something is OK, please ask us before you upload it.

File source problem with File:Heartofgold.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Heartofgold.jpg.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:00, 9 December 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --unforgettableid | talk 20:00, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Warning

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages by deliberately introducing incorrect information, as you did to Rush Limbaugh, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. -- Zsero (talk) 05:13, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The assertion was sourced to here, so I don't know that the charge of vandalism is necessarily correct. Wikipedia ends up looking stupid, but at least for now this might be the right assumption instead. Cheers, Tomertalk 19:06, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That is not even on the same planet as a reliable source. No assumption of good faith is warranted. -- Zsero (talk) 19:08, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am underinformed as to whether this user has a history of failure to understand WP:RS or other policies...which is what would warrant not extending AGF. A failure to abide by a policy one doesn't know or understand warrants AGF. If you know more about Sk8punk3d288 than I do, I'll defer to your judgment. Tomertalk 19:12, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
One doesn't need to know WP:RS or WP:BLP let alone WP:NOTNEWS to understand that that source is no more reliable than a ouija board, and that it is wrong to insert such significant news in an article without better confirmation. -- Zsero (talk) 19:15, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
After review of the source, I'm inclined to concur. Wow. Tomertalk 19:18, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So, then... has this user been BANNED (or at least suspended) yet? And if not, WHY not? Please explain. Thank you for your cooperation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.238.77.71 (talk) 20:21, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No. I gave a level-3 warning, which is perhaps a touch more severe than was warranted, and the user hasn't edited since, so s/he is clearly not being disruptive. Not even a block is called for, let alone a ban. -- Zsero (talk) 21:16, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations. Your misinformation managed to make world headlines, including a link at Drudge Report. You've been blocked for one week; I should block you indefinitely. Thanks loads for making this site look bad; you should see some of the comments the article Drudge links to is showing. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 08:54, 1 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Per the request of another user, I have unblocked your account since it appears that you were not acting in malice. Please be more careful in the future regarding your sources. Happy new year! PMDrive1061 (talk) 04:47, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

An admin might have unblocked you, but if I were you I'd would stay the hell well away from all BLP's for a LONG time, no doubt you will do the same.   «l| Promethean ™|l»  (talk) 08:31, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sk8punk3d288! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 7 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Doug Gray, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://www.answers.com/topic/doug-gray-4, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are liable to be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under allowance license, then you should do one of the following:

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Doug Gray saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! VernoWhitney (talk) 14:24, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

While not a word-for-word copy, the article is a close paraphrase in parts and needs to be rewritten in order to avoid infringing copyright. VernoWhitney (talk) 14:24, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Matt Hubbard (musician) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable musician lacking GHits and GNEWS of substance. Appears to fail WP:BIO and WP:MUSIC.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ttonyb (talk) 03:01, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Matt Hubbard (musician) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Unfortunately, the lack of information in Wikipedia is not a criteria for an article in Wikipedia. All articles on Wikipedia must be meet specific criteria for inclusion. In this case the criteria is defined in WP:BIO and/or [WP:MUSIC]]. The criteria needs to be demonstrated using reliable sources. ttonyb (talk) 03:29, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Matt Hubbard, etc.

[edit]

Greetings, Sk8punk3d288. The result of the AFD discussion for the Matt Hubbard article was to keep the article. Thanks for creating it. If you read my comments in the AFD discussion, I explained why the article was nominated for deletion, and how the issue was fixed.. You might want to take that under advisement the next time you create an article. If you have any questions or comments about any of this, let me know. (If you reply here I will see what you say.) It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Proposed deletion of Dino Dines

[edit]

The article Dino Dines has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Nothing here shows individual notability merely his band membership.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Citing refs

[edit]

Please use the Cite button to reference links. It is so easy and fills in all the details.. I've noticed that you leave bare references behind. Bare references just appear as plain links in the reference section and happens when there's no title. Here's a video how to do it. It's loud so turn down your volume ;) -- and when you paste the link in the URL field, click the magnifying button and it will fill out all the pertinent details.

And also if the "Reception" section is just talking about reviews, name it "Critical reception" per the album style guide: WP: MOSALBUMS

And for future use, you can use this tool to convert bare references. It's fast and easy, just paste the wiki article title into the field and it will do it all for you.
