Wow, I am humbled by your kind words and your vote of confidence. At this time, however, I do not feel I could give wikipedia the level of attention that it deserves from an sysop. In a few months, however, I would likely be interested. Thanks for your response. As far as I can tell, it's a "guideline" rather than a "policy." However, it's a very widely accepted guideline. Believe me, I understand the urge to fix up these little mistakes! But any time you change someone else's words, you run the risk of changing their meaning. (Perhaps the word they intended was a slang term that you are not familiar with, for example.) The line between "clarifying someone's thoughts" and changing the meaning of their words is not always clear. Less abstractly, people just get irritated by it! So it's strongly preferred to leave signed comments as they are. Thank you for your good intentions and your wish to make Wikipedia more professional! FreplySpang (talk) 17:13, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

- Hello, Siva1979. To give a specific example of this, I once commented that a contribution "was OR", which was subsequently "corrected" by another editor to read as "was OK". The guideline is well founded, for sentences that have apparent mistakes, if the meaning is 100% clear, there's no need to change it, and if it isn't 100% clear, then you have the risk of changing the meaning. I admire the good intention (as I find reading misspellings "harsh" too), but it's too fraught with risks which outweight the benefits! Cheers, MartinRe 17:25, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for understanding. I know it seems like a counterproductive guideline, but it's for the best when dealing with a large, diverse community. (MartinRe's example above is a good one.) I'm skeptical about leaving messages on the talk pages of people who make mistakes. One would have to be extremely diplomatic to do that successfully. For instance, some users make mistakes because they are dyslexic or because they have hand impairments that affect their typing. Others might simply find it annoying. In short, I don't think it would be a wise course of action. You're free to try it, but I don't think you'll find it especially rewarding. FreplySpang (talk) 18:11, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hello again. wrt to leaving notes on user's talk page, I have to say personally it might be a bad idea. Not only would you have to be diplomatic, but your own typing would have to be perfect - can you imagine the replies you'd get if you made a spelling misktake when pointing out someone elses? *shudder* Of course, if the meaning isn't clear, and you need to know, by all means ask the user to clarify, but talk pages are generally transient, so don't need to be 100% typo free, just understandable. If you do decide to give it a go, it would be interesting to add the outcome to the talk page guidlelines page, so others can see how it was regarded. All the best, MartinRe 21:24, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Guidelines are just that, and you are free to ignore them, but I would hesitate changing it in case more editors think it's okay to make changes and they aren't so polite and careful! Missing Images
Hi Siva, Thanks for the welcome when I started contributing. However, there seems to be a problem in Commons with my images in the last few days, quite a few don't appear on my watchlist, but they do appear on the Complete List option. An example - LRDG Memorial at Papakura New Zealand.jpg. I suppose if you can solve it for one picture it'll solve it for the others too. Thanks for any help you can give. Andrew de Moray.
I left a note for you on the discussion page attached to the de Moray page. To make the position more precise I can give you the following information.
1. Letters to the Hanseatic towns writtten in October 1297 are signed by Wallace and de Moray as 'Leaders of the army of Scotland and of the Realm'. De Moray, who was seriously wounded at Stirling Bridge, no longer appears on any document after this time.
2. The first reference to the Guardianship as such comes in a charter granted to Andrew Scrymgeour, dated 29 March 1298, where Wallace is described as 'Guardian of Scotland and Leader of the Army.'

- Well Sivabhai, doing this was right and easy, becoz being/not being an admin does not mean much to me, really. The quest here is to advance our database of knowledge, and having a few tools to block/delete doesn't make anybody special. There is no chance in hell that I'd ever allow myself to compromise my principles. I'm not disappointed, but I feel like a 500-lb load has been taken off my back. Thank you for supporting/objecting/tropicanising me in my request for Adminship. Although I wasn't promoted to admin status, with a final vote count of 14/27/12, I am very happy with the response I received from my fellow Wikipedians. I was pleasantly suprised at the support, and was touched by it. I will also work harder on preventing disputes and boosting my edit count (which is on the up), so thank you to all your objectors. That message appears if the image is uploaded in Commons and not in Wikipedia. Commons is a repository of images that can be used in all Wikipedia foundation projects: http://commons.wikimedia.org/. Get an account (you can registed using the same username you use here) and upoad your images there. Hmmm... What is the difference between the Commons map and this map? Images on Commons don't need to be uploaded on Wikipedia but fair use images must be uploaded to EN Wikipedia and not Commons. It is advisable not to upload own images to Wikipedia, but to Wikimedia Commons. --Terence Ong 03:51, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
- Of course you are not violating any policy of Wikipedia. However, we try to keep own work images on Commons, and remove them from Wikipedia. There is a WikiProject started by Mailer Diablo to transwiki user's picture's collection to Commons. See here, rather inactive though, I'm the other member of it. There is no need to download an image from your PC at Commons and upload it here. Commons images can be used at ALL Wikimedia projects, unlike Wikipedia. For the NowCommons tag, you can ask an admin to delete the image available at Commons, but most users keep the images at both places. Text beside boxes

Q K Southampton
Siva - I don't think the re-direct for Q K Southampton you've set up is correct. I believe their name uses the initials "Q K" rather than "Queens Keep". There are a number of others clubs where pub names have been abbreivated in such a manner - e.g. Meir K A and St Loyes (T & B) because senior leagues don't wish to be associated with clubs who look like "pub teams". - fchd 12:11, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Seeking Editor Review Commentary (If You Like)
Hi. In conjunction with my RfA (that you voted on), I have created an editor review, to give people a chance to comment as to ways in which I can branch out or alter my contributions to Wikipedia. An RfA seems to solely focus on how one's temperment and contributions relate to how they might handle administrative powers (and the consensus on that seems to be that I'm not quite ready); the editor review opens things up a little more to a larger focus, and I'd love to hear community feedback in the sense of that larger focus, too. If you feel you've already expressed yourself sufficiently when casting your vote, then by all means don't worry about it, but if any thoughts come to mind or if you'd like to expound upon any suggestions or commentary, it would be appreciated. RFA vote
I've looked into RFA, and have never found an instance when you voted oppose for anyone, even if the candidate is clearly not up to admin standards (like in my RFA). I am wondering, is it pure sympathy or do you stand by you vote? And if you have voted oppose, can you show me where. This is nothing personal (I think you need to be an admin), I am wondering about this sypahthetic behavior. The Gerg 23:43, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
