What counts as advertising?
[edit]Hi Singularity. I noticed that you removed a whole chunk of facts from the Shadow Hand page. The removed facts do not seem to follow a pattern consistent with the removal of advertising material. For example, you removed the statement "The hand contains 234 sensors in total." but did not remove the statement "The movements of the hand are powered by a set of 40 Air Muscles in the forearm." What is the logic of this?
Furthermore, these facts are no more advertising than the facts and figures listed on the ASIMO page for example, or the Segway. Do you think someone should remove this information too? In fact, I made sure that the page contained no nonsense like "this is the best hand" etc. unlike the Foster-Miller_TALON page, which really does read like a gushing advertisement. The page contained only referenced facts.
I certainly agree that the source of the data was 100% from my company, but if other robot systems have a Wikipedia page, then this highly notable hand should also. Rocketmagnet 20:16, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Hawaii
[edit]Hi,
I was looking over that DRV. I think the right result is being reached, as there is no point in relisting this material as it stands, but I've got to concur with the trout-slapping. In particular, the closing -- "I, for one, am very familiar with this subject" -- carries a bad implication. Without elaboration, I take that to mean, that you -- as an expert on Hawaii -- are imposing your judgment on the topic. This would be a contentious claim to make even if you are an academically-credentialed expert on Hawaiian history (as Wikipedia doesn't give experts "veto power"), and a dubious claim otherwise. In general, its bad form to inject one's off-wiki expertise into one's closure, especially as a blanket assertion without any supporting logic. It can sound a little arrogant, even more so in the context of a speedy closure.
Mind you, the only reason I bother you with this advice is because I know you are a wonderful Wikipedian, and that you would never intentionally convey such an impression. Anyone who quotes Sagan on their userpage obviously has great taste. :) Enjoy your vacation! Best wishes, Xoloz 15:34, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Knowledge services
[edit]Bold text The log says that the article was deleted and nothing else. Not much help there. Was there any particular reason, or was it just because? It's kind of irksome to put effort into producing a Wikipedia article only to have it trashed and not even know why. Frankly, the chances of my writing anything else are now slim to none. Albert Simard 21:04, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for sending me the discussion summary which I was unable to find. Well, at least I stired up a discussion. That's something in itself. And I admit that the key underlying published research (which many commenters clearly didn't read) is leading-edge stuff that addresed the problem identified in the one part that the reviewers seemed to relate to. Oh well, perhaps in 3-5 years, enough work will have been done in this area to justify it's inclusion in Wikipedia (by someone else). Meanwhile, life goes on.Albert Simard 17:46, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Professional Championship Wrestling
[edit]I reviewed the deletion log and understand the reasoning. With so many links not related to other pages it would appear to be a walledgarden as mentioned, however, the promotion known as Professional Championship Wrestling is a legitimate and active promotion functioning in Arlington, TX. The lack of outside links is likely due to a lack of updates from other fans and the owners of the company. I would be happy to provide citation and verification if the page is restored as Professional Championship Wrestling (Texas)

Christianity Explored
[edit]Hi,
I noticed that Christianity Explored has been created and deleted twice - I think with two entirely separate articles - and I gather that the last to be deleted was a no-contest deletion as a spammy article with no assertion of notability. I haven't seen it of course, since it was deleted.
IMO Christianity Explored is notable and Wiki should have a good article about it ... but rather than leap in where Angels fear to tread (or fly?) I have created a personal sandbox page to draft something.
I would be grateful for your views - I am contacting all those who commented in the last deletion debate, as you will have seen the previous article.
The article is at [[1]]

OK, I saw the Non Notable painter discusion. What are the criteria that make a painter notable? By the way the word "notable" really needs to be replaced by something else. I consider this artist highly notable - he ties to the discussion I was having with others on Irrealism. Re: Your LoPbN subpages
[edit]Under the heading "Your LoPbN subpages" you wrote on my talk
- In May, there was a MfD on the List of people by name article (and its subpages). The consensus was to delete. Since anything related to LoPbN now would be rendered pretty useless, could we delete your subpages as housekeeping (there's no reason to take them to MfD also)?
Singularity 17:01, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
_ _ There are at most a handful of subpages associated with LoPbN and its tree. The subsidiary pages that were deleted along with the page LoPbN can much more clearly be evoked by saying "LoPbN exists primarily to serve as the root of the LoPbN tree" and specifying "the pages that are descendants of LoPbN in the LoPbN tree". The other pages you are referring to are presumably Template pages providing infrastructure for the tree; see below.
_ _ I am not the person most interested in this matter, since others are involved in attempts to recover from the ill-conceived May deletion, which even if LoPbN were shown to be a bad idea, should have been delayed until the proposed alternatives could be demonstrated and evaluated. Several editors have contacted me on my talk page since the deletion, indicating that the content of the list is of value to those efforts.
_ _ It now appears that at least some of the deletions you had in mind have already been carried out, to wit Template:Lopbn-scp and Template:List of people by name exhaustive page-index (sectioned). The absence of even these two pages will greatly impede the access of editors drawing on that old work, by complicating identification of and access to the content of the deleted main-namespace pages, increasing effort by perhaps an order of magnitude. In a line, the deletions you proposed to me are a pretty bad idea.
_ _ But clarifying why is a big task, and problematic unless one of those who have contacted me about the replacement, or are otherwise working on the matter, can undertake to do so. As for me, it's six and a fraction weeks until election day; at any point when i have time to work toward this matter (as i have and am doing in writing this), i must weigh whether to start in light of knowing that at any point i may have to drop the effort without notice, perhaps returning to it only in November. But there's no harm in your asking me, much less asking simple questions, within that understanding, if you care to.

Concerning the Sonny Gambino article
[edit]Hello! In patrolling for vandalism I came across the Sonny Gambino article. A quick glance at the article will reveal a short but troubling history. A few users have taken things beyond simple vandalism and into outright hostility. I bring this to your attention because you are listed on WP:AMDB. If you need anything let me know. Thanks. --cholmes75 (chit chat) 17:20, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Reminder
[edit]Hola Mentors!
Im sending you this reminder because you volunteered to mentor my students in English Advanced B as they become contributing members of the Wikipedia community. We start working with Wikipedia in earnest next week. I ask you to take a look at your entry in the Mentor Table at Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Mentors
Please update the information, esp. with what your technical and informational expertise is or, if you have decided that you no longer want to participate, please remove your information from the table. Please watch the pages associated with the project. Students will contact you via your user page and as soon as my students have user pages, I will put them on the navigation bar associated with the project.
I don’t need to remind you that your job is NOT to write their assignments for them, of course. I certainly will tell my students that… and the fact that you are volunteers that don’t have to help them… so be nice. If any students misbehave (tho I don’t expect it) don’t hesistate to contact me and I will take care of it. The goal of this project is to integrate successfully into the Wikipedia community. Anyway… what I really need your help with is helping students get oriented to Wikipedia, make appropriate changes and write about appropriate topics (see Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Syllabus for assignments). I also need your technical expertise… I am only an English teacher after all! I appreciate what technology does for us but I am no technical expert!

Again: List of notable people who have taken psychedelic drugs
[edit]Can you help me understand why this article was deleted? The deletion log says "CSD: R1" which means "candidate for speedy deletion, redirect to a non-existent page".
This is incorrect, or the redirect was added as vandalism, because this was a real page with useful information.
If you examine the history, you will find that the page was vandalized on 25 July 2007 by User:Madsci, who left a comment saying "began list", when in fact a useful and somewhat sourced page was replaced with an unsourced list of internal links.
When the Afd debate occurred, this vandalized version of the page (obviously) got no support.
Is there a debate or review procedure for a CSD deletion? I would like to bring this page back.

[edit]Consultation: Do you think that article can stand? Are there any other references that you know of? DGG (talk) 22:23, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
The article at Whitefire which was subject to an AfD (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Whitefire) that you closed as a "delete and redirect" has had an article build on top of it again. I reverted it back to the redirect, but in looking into the matter, I did find some more noteworthy sources (at least, more noteworthy than what was in the recreated article), basically 2 brief articles in the NYT and 4 paragraphs in USA Today, which I linked to on Talk:Whitefire.
As the closing admin, I wanted to get your opinion on whether you feel this would be enough to warrant re-examination/DRV. While the coverage isn't great, there are multiple sources, and ones generally considered reliable... - Fordan (talk) 13:14, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
Hello,
I just noticed that this infobox template was deleted at this TfD, however despite concerns raised by myself and others with the nominator (1, 2, 3, extensive opposition), he did not inform either of the relevant wikiprojects or deletion lists about this discussion, and thus the wide opposition was ignored. I respectfully request that the template either be undeleted or the discussion relisted so that more than one other editor can express their view. Cheers, TewfikTalk 10:02, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Not wishing to sound too nit-picky or delete happy, but I was wondering why this TfD was closed as "redirect" when the only comments were to "delete"? Given that the merge had already been carried out and all transclusions removed or replaced, I don't really see the point in keeping these templates as redirects. PC78 07:04, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, well, I wouldn't know too much about that. To be honest though there wasn't a lot to merge, just a bunch of red links as I recall, and it's debatable whether they should be in there at all. No worries. PC78 06:39, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

The article has been created again -- after an AfD review resulted in its deletion. Despite the good faith of its author and some verifiable sources, the article is schoolcruft, unencyclopedic and not notable. I proposed its deletion, but the author removed the {{prod}} template. I'm not familiar with the ins and outs of an AfD review, but saw that you were involved in the previous review on the article. Thanks Australian Matt 05:34, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

How could I do that? Do I just relist it? (and what would be weird is relisting since it was two months ago, while most other relists are done at most a couple of days after the first discussion is closed). --Slarti (1992) 15:54, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

October 2007 newsletter for WikiProject Abandoned Articles
[edit]Welcome
[edit]The WikiProject welcomes two new members in the past three months:
Progress
[edit]The WikiProject is now halfway done, numerically, with the 1000 articles identified in December 2006. The first (oldest) 500 articles have been claimed, reviewed, and (when needed, which was almost all cases) improved. Moreover, given the passage of time, many of articles 501 through 1000 have been worked on by other editors (it's ten months since that list was generated). So reviewing the second half of the 1000 articles should be easier.
A slightly different approach
[edit]Section 6 (articles 501 through 600 on the list) has been organized differently than the previous five sections. First, blocks are (roughly) five articles each, rather than 10, making it easier for you to claim and finish a block. Second, perhaps more importantly, each block consists of similar pages; if you're interested in fixing disambiguation pages, there are blocks of those; if you're interested in articles (which is what the project originally started out being), there are blocks of those; and there is one block of lists and one of redirects (mostly redirects to articles). So, fewer surprises this time when you claim a block.
In addition, since the project now has 25 active members (though some are likely inactive), having more blocks will make it easier to spread the editing around.
Inactivating your membership
[edit]If you received this newsletter on your user talk page and don't want to receive such postings in the future, please move your name, in the participants section of the WikiProject, to the "Inactive" subsection.
