Merge Digital piano and Electronic piano
[edit]Hello. You've added a merge suggestion template to digital piano and electronic piano. So far, there isn't much support for merging. Perhaps you could weigh in on one of these articles' talk page and state your case for merging. Or if you have changed your mind, could you remove the merge templates? --Trweiss 19:34, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
Ok. Can someone quickly explain the differences to me? Its just if I see they're the same then should we not just redirect one to the other? Just trying to be helpful. --Simon Goldring 13:59, 5 January 2006 (Greenwich)
- If they were the same, I would agree that the articles should be merged. But they are different instruments. It is first of all important to understand that an article titled "electronic piano" could refer to 1) any piano which is electronic or 2) the specific instrument known as the electronic piano. If it meant the former, I would again be in favor of merging since digital pianos are indeed electronic. However, the electronic piano article is about the specific instrument, the electronic piano. The difference between a digital piano and an electronic piano (sense 2) lies in how the instruments sound and in how they produce their sound. An electronic piano is essentially an analog synthesizer designed specifically to imitate the timbre of a piano. The instrument falls considerably short of this goal. While its timbre may be piano-like, it wouldn't fool anyone. It really has its own unique timbre, which is generated electronicially using an oscillator. A digital piano is not a synthesizer, it is a sample playback device. When a key is pressed, it plays back a digital recording of a real piano. In front of an large audience or on a recording, the timbre of a digital piano is indistingishable from a real piano. --Trweiss 15:28, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Userpage Design
[edit]Hi Simongoldring,
I've modified the user page design at User:Simongoldring/Sandbox. All I did was change the border color. If you like it, you can can use it on your user page. If not, don't.

P.S. I, personally, think it looks more organized.

[edit]Simongoldring, You appear to have left meaningless (and potentially offensive) edits on my user page. Furthermore, you edited my existing text, to make it appear as if I had written that. If there is a good explanation, please offer it - one of Wikipedia's guiding ideas is to give people the benefit of the doubt. however, if you persist, I will have no choice but to report you.
