Position of taxonbar template
[edit]Good to see taxonbars being added to articles without them, but please note that as they are external links, they go before categories, and definitely not after any stub template. Peter coxhead (talk) 17:41, 29 April 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for the hint, I will pay attention to this. SimekOne (talk) 17:47, 29 April 2019 (UTC)
SimekOne: you are not "paying attention", but are still adding the taxonbar in the wrong place. Please see e.g. Lipkemera for the way the page should be laid out. Peter coxhead (talk) 21:11, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
- I'm paying attention to placing Taxonbar just above categories. IMHO stub templates are related to the article content not external links, but in one case or another it's just a minor detail - articles are expanded. Please consider your approach. SimekOne (talk) 21:26, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
- It's not my approach, it's the standard throughout the English Wikipedia.
- See Template:Taxonbar#Position – below references, above categories.
- See WP:STUBSPACING – at the very end with two blank lines before.
- It just makes unnecessary work for other editors if they have to keep moving material to conform to these clearly established guidelines. Peter coxhead (talk) 21:45, 6 May 2019 (UTC)

- Btw, you do not need the from= parameter if the wikidata item points to the article - the template gets that info automatically from Wikidata. Shyamal (talk) 06:51, 23 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Shyamal: I know that Taxonbar work without an ID if page is properly connected to Wikidata item but overall, for now, it's recommended to add QID (in future it will not be necessary). For more information please check out the maintenance category description: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Taxonbars_without_from_parameter and Taxonbar docs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Taxonbar/doc SimekOne (talk) 13:09, 23 July 2019 (UTC)
- @SimekOne: - I am not sure I would interpret category text as a recommendation, anyway, I have posted a query at the Template talk. Shyamal (talk) 13:28, 23 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Shyamal: - I saw your question on Template_talk:Taxonbar and I'm curious about an answer from core maintainers. From my experience so far I can tell that in the Tree of Life articles we sometimes need to add multiple from entries for monotypic taxons (e.g. Gonothyris) or for synonyms without properly defined basionym property in Wikidata entry (e.g. Ernstia septentrionalis synonym). Also species or genus names changes quite often and having explicit from attribute in Taxonbar help us find and categorize articles which need to be changed (Wikidata is updated by many bots/crawlers and in most cases better reflect the current state of Tree of Life, but in this process some pages got split, desynced or separated from theirs proper Wikipedia article). Disambiguation link notification for May 7
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Trabea (spider), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Congo (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Reliable references for common names
[edit]Hi! Just wanted to drop a quick note that because anyone with an account can add common names to species/taxa on iNaturalist, it's not considered a reliable source for inclusion on Wikipedia. —Hyperik ⌜talk⌟ 21:20, 4 August 2019 (UTC)

Careless habitual nav & stub template placement
[edit]Please be more careful when placing navigation & stub templates, which you've consistently failed to do.
- Place them on separate lines, NOT Special:Diff/984213425, Special:Diff/984056438, Special:Diff/984054546
- Navigation templates go before categories, NOT Special:Diff/984217446, Special:Diff/984217411, Special:Diff/984055526
- Stub templates go at the bottom of the page, NOT Special:Diff/984230956, Special:Diff/933099224, Special:Diff/933099168
You've been told this before, and it's clear from comments above from over a year ago that you've made little to no improvement. You even went out of your way to concatenate these 3 navs, and these, and these, etc. ~ Tom.Reding (talk ⋅dgaf) 16:17, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Tom.Reding, as a long time contributor you should be aware that I'm using Visual Editor (which is marked in the changesets too) and in many cases the exact and final code result is not controlled by or known to me:
- Place them on separate lines - can't control that from the Visual Editor,
- Navigation templates go before categories - categories elements are not visible in the Visual Editor,
- You even went out of your way to concatenate - this is a bit rude accusing me like that, but like in the cases above, Visual Editor controls that.
- Also I'm not regular contributor and it seems like my goals on Wiki, and reasons behind why I edit pages are way different than yours, but please show a bit more respect and understanding next time when you are leaving a comment (do not judge by the generalities). Cheers! SimekOne (talk) 09:17, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
