My goodness, you've been around since February and never gotten a welcome? Well... here. It's canned, but hey.

Oh, and good work on the Pfyn culture article.

Welcome to Novels

[edit]

Hi, and welcome to the Novels WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to fiction books often refered to as "Novels".

A few features that you might find helpful:

There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the members, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 09:36, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anita Blake

[edit]

Silverthorn, if it's not too late, you may want to create the Anita Blake page at Anita Blake (just get rid of the redirect) instead of at Anita Blake (fictional character). Thanks, TheronJ 16:42, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Servant of the Bones

[edit]

Thanks for the feedback on Servant of the Bones, Silverthorn! I appreciate it. :) I do intend to flesh out the characters and themes a bit -- just ran out of cybertime! I struggle with the genre. It's always hard for me to fit a book into any one genre and this is an especially tough one. As you say, it's not typical historical fiction. But it's not really horror, is it? I mean it's got its yuckky moments when he's being made into a genie but for the most part it's a memoir. Anyway, thanks a bunch! Estreya 14:44, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. I agree that categorising novels into genres can be hard. Sometimes the simplest solution is to put them in more than one. Silverthorn 15:03, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warning

[edit]

Some of the the material you added to Midnight Children's is a direct copy and paste of the text from SparkNotes. Even though you attribute your material as coming from there, you can not use the text from a copyrighted site in Wikipedia. (WP:Copyright). You have entered a good deal of other text in the article that appears to be from similar sources, though I have not yet tracked down just where. Remove it.

Please read the policy on copyright as listed above, and the explanation there. If you do not understand anything the policy, please feel free to ask me questions about it here, or ask on the talk page there.

Then, remove any text you have inserted in a similar manner into other articles. You cannot insert copied or even paraphrased text. You must rewrite it yourself from scratch relying on the knowledge of the subject you have gained from reading the sources, referring of course to the sources to confirm the details. You must use your own words, unless you are using a source that says explicitly that it is public domain, of freely licensed under a GFDL license. Web sites in general do not fall into this class. Even blog posts are the copyright of the site, or the author. Certainly material posted by commercial sources is, text as well as photographs.

I would like confirmation that you understand this policy; I will look here for it tomorrow. I do not think you had any deliberate attempt to violate out policies, but you can and will be banned from Wikipedia if you continue this after being notified. Some other administrators would have banned you immediately. I instead rely on you to remove the material you copied into Wikipedia. DGG (talk) 08:54, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adam Bede

[edit]

On March 2, 2007 you added a long section to Adam Bede copied directly from Gradesaver It has been removed.

I am not sure you fully understood my message. Please go back to ALL of your earlier contributions and check that the material you added was original. remove any that is not. If any remains, you will be blocked. This is absolutely impermissible in Wikipedia. If you had not realized before, you surely must realize it now. DGG (talk) 03:52, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did understand your previous message, however I would point out that this second warning is about material that was added several months ago prior to the warning. It is not a defiant or ignorant attempt to ignore what you said. It is an example of a mistake that was repeated prior to being informed it was a mistake. I am checking the articles I have contributed to to ensure that there are no further occurrences. I have, however, contributed to more than one and - whilst this error will not have been made in each one - I do in all good conscience need to check them all. That takes time. If you are not willing to permit me that time, then so be it. I cannot prevent you from blocking me. All I can say is that I am doing my best. Silverthorn 09:45, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not going to block you if you're working on it, but this material cannot be allowed to remain. If I could check and remove one a day, while doing everything else, so can you. DGG (talk) 01:58, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request help with article Ancient Egypt

[edit]

As you are listed as a member of Wikiproject:AncientEgypt, I'd like to recruit your help in reviewing the article Ancient Egypt. The article is listed as top priority in the Wikiproject and as a vital article by the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, but appears to have failed to meet Good Article criteria at its last nomination. The article is in need of some serious attention.

In the past week, I asked for (and got) the article to be semi-protected to protect against the constant barrage of vandalism. This protection lasts for two weeks. I also did a little clean-up, added a map and so on. I would like to see everyone in Wikiproject:AncientEgypt have the chance to add their input to Ancient Egypt, and get the article up to featured status as soon as possible. I believe the article is at least 80% of the way there, and some focused attention will bring it the rest of the way.

The most pressing concerns seem to be the culture/architecture section, and the achievements/unsolved problems sections. Also, the entire article, especially the achievements section, the sources, and external links need to be seriously checked for accuracy. These sections also require a little organization too.

Ancient Egypt ought to be the top priority of Wikiproject:AncientEgypt, and I look forward to working with everyone to get this article cleaned up and hopefully promoted to featured status. Thanks for your help, Jeff Dahl 03:27, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. The article Christine Feehan has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

1. Articles whose subjects fail to meet the relevant notability guideline (WP:N, WP:GNG, WP:BIO, WP:MUSIC, WP:CORP, and so forth). 2. Articles for which thorough attempts to find reliable sources to verify them have failed.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. coffeecup89 (talk) 23:55, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:02, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Stolencoveruk.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 02:41, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Shapeshifter (Anita Blake mythology) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG through complete lack of substantial coverage. Everything I'm finding is in blogs and other unreliable sources. This has not seen any significant coverage in scholarly sources. If deprodding, please include a brief reason as to why this deletion would be viewed as controversial on my user talk page; any sources you found would be nice. This also reeks of WP:OR in places.

Userbox

[edit]

Hello. FYI, I've had a userbox created for me, and I thought it might be of interest since you were involved with WikiProject Novels/Crime task force. It says "This user reads Hard-boiled detective fiction" and the code to implement it is:

Revolver_dame This user reads Hard-boiled detective fiction.

(Add double braces to the red text: {[ }}.. -- Pete Best Beatles (talk) 21:53, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, the code seems to have a typo, causing it to appear incorrectly. Here is the fixed code that you can copy and paste.
Wikitext userbox where used
{{User:KomradeKalashnikov/Userboxes/HB Detective Fiction}}
Revolver_dame This user reads Hard-boiled detective fiction.
