Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Shyanne1974. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page XQ Institute , you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template)—don't forget to give details of reliable sources supporting your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Please refrain from editing pages that are connected to you or your workplace, such as XQ Institute and Beth Fertig. Thank you! Bookworm-ce (talk) 03:20, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm terribly sorry! A documentary festival used the Wikipedia page to write its poster about a film made by XQ. It was out of date, and our PR agency said they're not allowed to make changes. That's why I thought I could do it. But I completely understand your policy. What do you suggest? Should I just make the same changes in suggestion mode on the talk pages?
- Beth
- (I updated my page a few years ago, written by someone else, when I changed jobs. I didn't know that wasn't allowed. Very sorry) 2603:7000:8B05:5E73:DD4A:1881:FB42:F3DE (talk) 13:09, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- Totally understand the confusion! In the future, you could make a note on the Talk page, and other editors who have worked on the article can incorporate into the article itself as appropriate. Thank you! — Bookworm-ce (talk) 14:06, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
