Warning icon Please stop. If you continue to add promotional or advertising material to Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing. Additionally, the username and edit history of this account leads me to believe it violates [WP:SOCK] as a sockpuppet account of en.wikipedia.org/w/User:Shivathmany, which has made close to exactly the same edits that you have here. Please cease and desist. Sirocco745 (talk) 21:45, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

would appreciate it if you could explain why adding history is considered a violation. Shouldn't this be part of a company page on Wikipedia? I would also appreciate your guidance on how I can write it in a way that isn't promotional. I checked the reference page but couldn't figure out a solution. Shivathmanydd (talk) 01:32, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll gather and send some resources for you to read up on. Also, apologies for acting out of bad faith and reverting your edits multiple times without asking. I simply believed that you were trying to advertise Keells because you hadn't been communicating using the article's talk page, hadn't reached out to anyone to discuss editing policy, and used multiple accounts to continue reverting the undos of your work. If you're genuine about wanting to help improve Wikipedia, I recommend looking up some Good-class articles and comparing your own writing style to theirs. Keeping a neutral point of view/tone is also good.
There is one issue that can't be overlooked though, that being your use of multiple accounts to continue your editing despite being told to stop. This is known as "sockpuppeting" and is a serious offence on Wikipedia, as silly as that may sound. Normally an investigation would be launched into suspected sockpuppet accounts to find and punish their owner, but since you seem to be willing and wanting to be genuinely helpful, we can try and sort something out.
The first thing I highly recommend you do is to centralize your activity onto one account. Choose an already existing account or create an entirely new one, and delete or don't touch the other accounts. Then, take some time to familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's editing guidelines and the writing style of some good articles. Once you've started doing that, you can begin showing drafts of articles to other users (including me!) to get them to rate your writing. Once you've made proper, good contributions that others value and comply with Wikipedia's guidelines, and if you prove yourself to be trustworthy and that this was a simple mistake caused by confusing policy, then I will gladly support you in anything that arises because of your use of alternate accounts.
Please do respond, I genuinely want to be wrong about you being an advertiser simply looking to promote Keells. I can see that you put actual time and effort into writing those article sections, and it would be an absolute shame for that to go to waste. And again, apologies for not reaching out sooner. Sirocco745 (talk) 05:43, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also @Discospinster, I'm mentioning you here because you've reverted some of this user's edits before on Keells. I want to know if this sounds good to you, and to alert you to the (hopefully) ongoing dialogue here. Sirocco745 (talk) 05:47, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I return with some links! Wikipedia's policies and guidelines can be admittedly extensive to the point of intimidation for some, so here are some sections I reckon would be most useful for a new editor to read. Editing policy describes proper procedure and etiquette for users to follow when editing and talking with each other. Manual of Style briefly lists all the different ways users should properly format their edits, but it is quite long, so highlights from there include
There's obviously a whole lot more, but those few things I've linked should be a good start on how to write Wikipedia articles. And now for the thing I kept pulling you up on originally when you were writing about the history of Keells: notability. To summarise it, articles should only be written if the subject of said proposed article has gained "sufficiently significant attention by the world at large and over a period of time, and are not outside the scope of Wikipedia."
I think I'll leave it here for now. If you have any questions, just ask! Sirocco745 (talk) 06:57, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your understanding. I sincerely apologize for not communicating on the article's talk page earlier, as I’m new to Wikipedia editing and wasn’t aware it was necessary.
Keells (the brand name registered as Jaykay Marketing Services Pvt Ltd) is a major supermarket chain in Sri Lanka, but much of the information is not available, and the available information is outdated. My intention was solely to contribute accurate and valuable content that could benefit the Wikipedia community, particularly Sri Lankan students researching or writing reports about Keells.
Since Keells/Jaykay Marketing Services is part of the larger conglomerate John Keells Holdings and registered under a subsidiary called Ceylon Cold Stores, important information about Keells is difficult to find. Many people may not realize they need to refer to the parent or subsidiary’s annual reports, which often lack details. I genuinely want to address this by contributing to Wikipedia to help make this information more accessible and comprehensive for anyone looking for details about Keells.
I hope you understand, and I will follow the guidelines. In case I’m unsure about what to do, I will reach out to you and ensure I follow the correct procedure on Wikipedia. Shivathmanydd (talk) 02:27, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All good and no problem, happy to help where I can! Do you reckon you could send me some links to Keells and their parent company? I'll admit, you've got me curious now. Generally supermarket chains would have the kind of notability to meet WP:ORG's notability criteria, so I'm interested to see what could be found on it. Hi @Sirocco745, I’m really sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Here are the links:
1) Keells: [https://www.keellssuper.com/](https://www.keellssuper.com/)
2) Keells is registered under Ceylon Cold Stores (CCS, a subsidiary of John Keells Holdings): [https://www.elephanthouse.lk/](https://www.elephanthouse.lk/)
3) Keells Parent (John Keells Holdings): [https://www.keells.com/](https://www.keells.com/)
@Sirocco745 @DRM310 @IZNO I wasn’t active for a while, and now that I’m back, I’ve found that my Wikipedia account got blocked due to a sockpuppet issue. I’m not familiar with Wikipedia's policies, as I mentioned earlier. I work for Keells, and we are eager to ensure accurate and accessible information for the benefit of students and the wider Wikipedia community. We are keen to resolve the information accessibility issue I mentioned before.
I would appreciate your guidance on how to proceed with unblocking my account and completing the Keells profile. Your assistance in helping us navigate this process would be invaluable. Shivathmanydd (talk) 11:51, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Actions required

[edit]
  1. Using multiple accounts on Wikipedia is called sockpuppetry and is a serious violation of Wikipedia policy. It is evident that you have used two other accounts: ShivathU and Shivathmany. If this is the account you wish to use, do not log in to either of the other two accounts ever again. If there is even just one more edit from either of these other accounts in the future, I will report these findings. In addition, do not create any additional accounts.
  2. If you are employed by the company Keells or they are your client, you must disclose this information as part of Wikipedia's paid editing disclosure policy. This disclosure is mandatory and non-negotiable. Please do not make any more edits until you have complied with this policy.

@Drm310 I sincerely apologize for the delayed response. I have not been active for a while, and upon returning, I discovered that my Wikipedia account was blocked due to a sockpuppet issue.
1) I would like to continue using this account.
2) Yes, I am employed by Keells, and I am reaching out on behalf of the company to kindly request your support in unblocking my account and completing the Keells profile. Please note that I am not fully familiar with Wikipedia's policies. Our intention has always been to contribute accurate and valuable information that could benefit the Wikipedia community—particularly Sri Lankan students researching or writing reports about Keells.
I truly appreciate your understanding and assistance in helping resolve this matter. Shivathmanydd (talk) 11:59, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It does not have "profiles" and is not a webhost on which to promote any subject. Wikipedia has encyclopedia articles. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 12:58, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I understand! @Deepfriedokra Shivathmanydd (talk) 00:26, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked as a sockpuppet

[edit]
Wikipedia's technical logs indicate that this user account has been or may be used abusively as a sockpuppet of User:Shivathmany per the evidence presented at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Shivathmany. It has been blocked indefinitely from editing to prevent abuse.

Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you should review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|Your reason here ~~~~}}. Note that anything you post in your unblock request will be public, so you may alternatively use the Unblock Ticket Request System to submit an appeal if it contains information that must be private.

Administrators: Checkusers have access to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or by administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. You must not loosen or remove this block, or issue an IP block exemption, without consulting with a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators who undo checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee may be summarily desysopped.
Izno (talk) 05:16, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @Izno,
I understand my account was blocked because there were concerns I might be using multiple accounts to misuse Wikipedia. I just wanted to clarify that I didn’t mean to break any rules or deceive Wikipedia Community. I’m new to the platform and wasn’t fully aware of the guidelines around using multiple accounts. I’m genuinely sorry about it.
I created a second account because, at one point, I couldn’t make any edits on my first account (which I now realize was because it was blocked). I thought it was just a technical issue and didn’t realize it was connected to any rule violation. My intention was purely to continue contributing, not to violate any rules. To be honest, I only learned what I did wrong when an editor rejected my content or added a comment, and I appreciate those.
I also hadn’t fully realized the policy requirement of transparency, especially regarding potential conflicts of interest. Yes, I am employed by Keells. But my intention was not to promote the company but to address information accessibility. Back when I was a student trying to research Keells for an assignment, I found it hard to get specific details. Now that I work here, I get that it’s partly because Keells, run by Jaykay Marketing Services, is part of John Keells Holdings and registered as a subsidiary under Ceylon Cold Stores. A lot of the important information is mixed into larger corporate documents, which makes it challenging for people to find details specifically about Keells.
Since I now have access to accurate information, my goal was to help address this accessibility gap on Wikipedia. I am learning about Wikipedia’s rules on conflict of interest, neutrality, and disclosure, and I am fully committed to following these policies from here on. I’ll stick to just this account going forward. If possible, I’d appreciate any help with deactivating the other account(s).
As per my current understanding, I am supposed to use the Unblock Ticket Request System to submit an appeal. I visited the page and genuinely don’t understand what is being asked and am having trouble with some of the questions;
1)“What wiki are you blocked on?”: I’m unsure if I am blocked only on English Wikipedia or globally.
2) “Is your account directly blocked?”: I’m unclear if it is my account or an IP address that is blocked.
If possible, I would be grateful for any guidance you can provide to complete this process correctly. I will not make any appeal until I get your response on this.
I’m really sorry again Shivathmanydd (talk) 01:23, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
