You have been blocked indefinitely from editing, because this account has been used only for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to Wikipedia policy, and because your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation, which is also against policy. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a free advertising service.
What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you will probably not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.

Please note that, in order for your request to have a reasonable chance of success, you must address the conflict of interest issue, and make it clear that your editing will not be promotional, and will not be made on behalf of your business or other organisation.

If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. JamesBWatson (talk) 11:50, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I believe we have a gross error here. I am truly sorry if I have made a mistake about posting on "my" profile page. I truly believed this page was for a contact page or a signature page so others could contact me, or learn more about our company. I did NOT mean to self promote the company at all. We created this account to add to one of our newest client's wikipage. I really do not know what belongs on this page as this was my first attempt at an account. It is very complex GUI filled with information. I will be happy to remove any information such as you have listed as self promoting. We would like to be able to assist in updating our client's Wikipedia page. Again, I am aware at this point in time and will refrain from typing anything on our "profile page" My apologies. Please consider unblocking as we truly were not aware and did not mean to infringe.

Decline reason:

I appreciate your sincerity, but you completely failed to address this being a username block. And, given what you've revealed about yourself ("we" ... in other words, a role account, which we discourage, and the use of words like "our clients" which suggests you are doing this as part of a professional public relations or marketing effort), I doubt you will be unblocked even with a username change. Daniel Case (talk) 02:03, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well maybe someone can explain to ME, exactly how one who was hired by a person you have listed in Wikipedia, can update that information to the factual? We or I do not have to contribute or post ANYTHING here. It is YOUR format here which requires an account to "contribute" and when you do actually contribute you get banned because you list your contact information and website? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Some helpful information would be appreciated, or Ill just switch IP's….pretty simple. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sheldontechnology (talkcontribs) 2:13, 7 August 2012 (UTC)‎

It's against the policies of Wikipedia to list company information in user pages, and to use a promotional username. Wikipedia is not the Yellow Pages, and Wikipedia should not be used for free advertising. It will not help to switch IPs, the admins will block them anyway. --Vincent Liu (something to say?) 03:56, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Again, you information nazi's over here at Wikipedia apparently cannot read. LASTLY, I could careless about my company or information nor any advertisements. I simply want to add a website address to a person who is listed ON WIKIPEDIA linking that website to their OFFICIAL website. You cannot do this unless you are a contributor. IN which method since you have blocked me would this be a possibility? And Yes, I can create another user name using another IP. You are not the God's of information. Why do you have to make this process so difficult. There was an error made because wikipedia cannot make this a user friendly format. Again, what I wrote I thought was a personal bio page for the contributor. NO ONE was trying to advertise anything. Please make my life easy and instruct me how to properly add a URL for an OFFICIAL website on an official page. Thank YOU! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sheldontechnology (talkcontribs) 4:04, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

Actually, it's quite simple. Either change your username to something not promotional, or log out and add the official website as an anonymous contributor (though that will reveal your IP). --Vincent Liu (something to say?) 04:39, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't take that advice. If you are blocked it means that you are not allowed to edit, and evading the block as suggested is completely unacceptable. JamesBWatson (talk) 09:08, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I take back that comment. --Vincent Liu (something to say?) 09:56, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button or located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when they said it. Thank you. Vincent Liu (something to say?) 04:41, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • You can write a whole page full of such stuff as "Sheldon Technology is a story, a journey, a company dedicated to helping business owners succeed, to last, and to shine" etc etc, and claim that you did not intend it to be promotion????? That is a remarkable claim even for someone who works in marketing, and is so accustomed to marketing speak that they have become desensitised to it, and can't see it when it is right in front of them. [edit]

I have a business to run, I have a life, I am a very busy person. Unlike everyone here, I have a professional life. I can just use another user name if I must. I work in technology, I am not going to be put in a position because of persons who have apparently nothing better to do but play "God of Information" power trip. Lastly, again Mr. Watson, JamesBWatson if you have read, I originally believed the page I wrote all with the content in question was a "profile" again LET ME BOLD IT A PROFILE PAGE'.... or a page to feature who I was, what I did, and how to contact. I am assuming you never heard of a profile. I am so very very sorry I did not read your 100000000000 pages of TOS and made this error as a beginner.

ANY OTHER HUMAN being in the world would see I did not know what I was doing, hence, I cant even sign my own signature. ANY KIND and NORMAL person would explain the rules, or correct my error and HELP me, no, you want to just block me, and teach me how to sign digitally instead of help me to get started properly. ( MINUS Vincent Liu thank you! for trying to help).

I am not here to promote anything or my company, I am here to help update information for a high profile client who obtained a website. Now you can help me, or please delete this post and thread in it's entirety, I dont need it to be associated with our company name indexing on Google. I'll do just fine either way, help or not. Regards --Sheldontechnology (talk) 09:43, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your profile page is no place for advertisements/business promotions. Wikipedia is not a soapbox or means of promotion. The profile page is designed for user profiles, not company profiles. Try someplace else for the promotions. --Vincent Liu (something to say?) 09:56, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again for all your help. It's been such a pleasure you've been a wonderful helpful truly supportive community. Let me tell ya. No wonder people don't trust Wikipedia. It's almost frightening to think that you all handle the majority of the reference information of the world unchecked. Very fighting. --Sheldontechnology (talk) 10:11, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm declining this request both on procedural grounds (you haven't provided a new username and we can't unblock you so that you could edit under your current one) and because you don't understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and you are ultimately indending to continue editing in areas where you have a conflict of interest. If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

  • Contrary to what you seem to think, I do not doubt for a moment that you came to Wikipedia in good faith. Many people come here sincerely thinking "anyone can edit Wikipedia" means "anyone can add anything they like to Wikipedia", and are genuinely taken aback when they are told that what they have done is unacceptable. I am confident that is so in your case, and I am sorry that your experience has had such a negative impact on you. However, I will try to clarify the situation, in the hope it helps you. The central point here is that Wikipedia is not a medium for promotion of any sort. You said that you "did NOT mean to self promote the company", but you posted content (a little of which I quoted above) which was clearly intended to tell us in glowing terms how wonderful the company is. That is to say, to promote the company. When you refer to a "profile page", you appear to mean a page written to give the image of yourself or your business which you wish to make public: that is, to promote yourself or your business. Nowhere have I blamed you for doing so, since, as I have already said, I am sure you were unaware that doing so was contrary to Wikipedia policy. I have, however, explained to you that doing so is contrary to Wikipedia policy. Also, when you said that you had not intended to promote, I have pointed out that you certainly did so. Looking back at the message I wrote to point that out, I can see that the wording I used was not the most diplomatic I could have chosen, and I apologise for that. Related to the issue of promotional editing, but not identical to it, is the issue of conflict of interest. Wikipedia articles are meant to be written from an independent point of view, and people writing on behalf of a person or organisation that is the subject of an article are likely to be influenced by their relationship to that person or organisation, even if they sincerely do not intend to write in a promotional way. For that reason, Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines strongly discourage us from editing articles on subjects to which we have such a connection. Since I am the administrator who blocked you, I will not review your unblock request, but will leave it to another administrator, so that you get an independent assessment. However, as will be clear to you if you re-read the block notice, it is quite likely that you will not be unblocked if it seems that your only purpose is to edit an article about your "client" on behalf of that client. I hope these comments have helped to clarify the situation for you. JamesBWatson (talk) 11:17, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
