SHEHBAAZ BAURTALLY
Shehbaaz Baurtally, full name Muhammad Shehbaaz Ally Baurtally, is a Mauritian. Born on 5th of Febraury 1979, he is an amateur researcher in the field of Islamic philosophy and hadeeth. He is popularly known for his book which exposes around 700 weak and fabricated hadeeths, entitled "MORE THAN 700 WEAK AND FABRICATED HADEETHS EXPOSED". This book appeared on the net in Jannuary 2012, in PDF form. Many people from various countries have already downloaded it. Exposing falsehoods, be it in the forms of fabricated hadeeths, practices, beliefs, stories is the aim of Shehbaaz.
Shehbaaz Baurtally was born in a Muslim family whose ancestors are from India. The family is normally upon the Barelwy creed. In childhood, Shehbaaz had no interest in religion. However, in 1994 he was very much interested in philosophy and began to have much interest in this field. In 1996, he had an atheistic belief about religion. But in 1997, while he was pondering on nature, he concluded that there must be a Supreme Being. He thought that if everything would have been by coincidence then one day would not have always been 24 hours but could have sometimes been less and even more and even destroyed by accidents in the universe.
By then, Shehbaaz was someone who believe in the existence of God. However, he thought that if divine existence is certain, then all religions cannot be from this very Divinity, for, there are contradictions against each and every religion, in matters of the fundamental beliefs. He also hold the view that if there is indeed a Supreme Being, then, there must surely be a Religion from this divinity, in order to guide mankind. Upon deep investigation, he concluded that this divine religion is certainly Islaam. Thus around August of 1997, he became very religious and started praying seriously. However, another thing then confused his mind. Even though he was certain that Islaam is the religion of truth, yet, he thought that there is another query; which is the saved sect among the 73? It is good to mention that from 1996 to around 2006, Shehbaaz had the habit to copy his research works in copybooks and it was in several copybooks as he wrote extensively. However in 2009/2010, he destroyed all these copybooks.
During the period of 1997/1998, while taking tuition in Islamic studies, he learn about the fact that there exist forged narrations and the method the scholars of hadeeths used to differentiate between the authentic and sound hadeeths compared to the weak and fabricated ones. However, it was not a scholarly level but just as HSC level. At that time, he had no keen interest in this field. However, in 2004, a colleague at work lend a book to him which was entitled "100 Fabricated Hadith", by the Jamaican Shaykh Abdullah Faisal. This book has an impact on Shehbaaz but still he did not hold great interest in researching. In 2008, while starting to use Facebook, he started to share his research works there. He then developed a strong desire to denounce fake hadeeths. Thus in 2009 up till now, he is making profound research in weak and fabricated hadeeths and other falsehoods, especially those related to religion.
