Barnstar from you.
[edit]Thank you - I really really appreciate that someone has noticed my research as well as my anti-vandalism attempts. --JohnDBuell 01:06, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
First, thanks for the barnstar... it made my day. Second, I just finished revising the article based upon comments I received during the FAC process... I withdrew it (despite it's probable passing) to incorporate some great ideas others gave me. I'd love it if you went back and checked out the article now and let me know what you thought. I'm also very interested in recommendations on how to improve it (namely areas which might be confusing or hard to understand.)Balloonman 18:31, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks from me, too - that was very kind of you. I'm looking forward to seeing Balloonman's efforts bear fruit. Sandy (Talk) 05:49, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for your words of support in my RfA. I'm glad that you affirmed Radiant's nomination and I'll be measured in my use of the cleaning closet's contents. I'm eyeing your 'status.gif' with larceny in my mind ... looks like a useful thing to have on my user page. Also, referring to your seeing I'd spent time on the Village Pump, I feel I learn more about the thinking that drives editors — good, bad, and vandalous — by spending time there than most other places. - to the top of your talk page, and then copy and paste about 50 messages into the archive. Once they are there, delete them from your page. Don't add [[/Archive 2|2]] if you don't want a second archive, and add [[Archive 3|3]] for your third. I didn't read the whole archive page, I just pasted that on. Re: Task Force Proposal
[edit]I doubt that there's a significant number of editors who'd be interested in something like that, as it's not a very cleanly-defined area. It's not clear, at least to me, whether you mean things like psychological warfare (e.g. shock and awe) or the more medically-oriented questions of warfare and psychology (e.g. shell shock), and the two are probably likely to draw very different groups of editors. The first one is pretty neatly covered by the Military science task force; the second would probably work better under some more generic Military medicine task force, but I don't think we have the needed level of interest for creating one. [edit]Sharkface217/Archive2, thank you for your support in my RfA which passed on 13th December 2006 with a tally of 49/10/5. I am delighted by the result, a little daunted by the scope of the additional tools (I shall be cautious in my use of them), and will try to make everyone "proud". afd
[edit]I appreciate your comments but unless I am very much mistaken I don't think you did more than glance at the articles before copying and pasting some bolded text. I disagree with the general premise that a google hit plus a self-published album makes a group notable. If you wan't to look into some reliable third party sources for these groups, I'd consider that a more productive way to go about arguing for their being kept. savidan(talk) (e@) 06:22, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- No offence taken. I think we just have different interpretations of the notability criteria. savidan(talk) (e@) 06:30, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- I didn't mean to object to copying and pasting per say (although I customized the nominations, they were in many ways similar), but when you claim to make specific claims about the articles, it's best that you don't do so. It's also a little different when you're agreeing with the nom. In any case, I do disagree that sheer length of existence is sufficient for notability. savidan(talk) (e@) 06:44, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- There is no need for new criteria. WP:MUSIC is a relatively specific guideline which has resulted in a cappella groups being both deleted and kept. They are musical groups. I don't know why you keep saying they aren't radio towers; they are bands. College a cappella groups don't need different standards than post-collegiate a cappella groups. savidan(talk) (e@) 06:54, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- I don't disagree with that meta-premise. College a cappella groups are snowflakes. But there are some non-notable snowflakes. Many groups have their own websites but no other media coverage or claim to notability. This presents a large verifiability problem because only the groups participants can write the article. There is no way to fact check most of this information except against there own websites. This often leads to vanity; it rarely leads to well-sourced, quality encyclopedic articles. savidan(talk) (e@) 07:01, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- Its fine for you to have that opinion. Why don't you try finding some third-party sources for these articles, if you agree? I tried, and couldn't, which is why I think we need to pursue the notability criteria against these groups. savidan(talk) (e@) 07:08, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- Considered it. I was going to wait till I'd been here a year at least. savidan(talk) (e@) 07:15, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Tarja Turunen
[edit]Regarding your edit at Tarja Turunen, the Fair use criteria is explicit: if there is a free alternative, use it. This way we encourage people to search for better free alternatives. I am in the process of uploading a better free image, but it will take me still some time as I need to coordinate this with the photographer. In the meantime, consider that the fair use criteria is pretty clear. -- ReyBrujo 04:40, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hi there. Wikipedia strives to be a free encyclopedia, not the best one, as informed in our five pillars. While having the most complete and perfect encyclopedia is surely wonderful, our main focus is to make it free. That is why, when you read the title bar in the browser, it says "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" and not "Wikipedia, the best encyclopedia". We have discussed this in the past, and it was agreed that license is more important than up to date information when the changes are trivial. In this case, while the promotional picture is very nice, the same information is obtained from the free picture, thus it does not really justify discarding the free image. By the way, there is also Image:Tarja Noche.jpg, so if you want to change the current one with that one, you can do it, however, since that image has a watermark, it is not as suitable as the current one. -- ReyBrujo 12:39, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

PGNx Media
[edit]Greetings,
Please take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2006_December_30#PGNx_Media . trialsanderrors showed me the deletion discussion for Cokemachineglow. PGNx Media is also included in Metacritic, as well as other sources. If the decision is overturned and the page is kept, it can provide precedent of using Metacritic as a benchmark for notability. Perhaps the cokemachineglow article would be kept after this. If you do not agree that the website should be kept at this time, please contact me before voting so. Thanks for your consideration; I will be forever indebted. Infomanager 00:21, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Re:Suspected sockpuppet
[edit]I wouldn't do anything yet. From the looks of the contributions, it looks like this is a pretty good user. I don't really see any vandalism (unless I'm missing something) edits by the user. By the way, if you have substantial proof that MAR-C is a sockpuppet of Nimbat230, then you should take it to CheckUser to verify. Nishkid64 14:28, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
space warfare in fiction
[edit]Obviously, I don't know anything about the topic but I would suggest citing some sources. Check google books, google scholor, google web, etc. There might be some publications about this topic, but unless you find at least source talking about the topic as a whole, I'd be nearly as skeptical as the prod-er. savid@n 16:26, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
Just so you know, Sharkface, you have every right to de-prod Space warfare in fiction yourself, simply because you object to its proposed deletion. You don't even need to justify your action to anyone. You may just do it, and that will negate the prod. And you certainly need not to beg Gyr to do it. If you honestly believe the article should be kept then I recommend that you exercise your Right to De-prod promptly, whereas the article's 5-day reprieve has expired, and so it could be axed at any moment.
I see that you've added some sources to the article. That should stand it in better stead if Gyr, or anyone, afterward decides to AfD it. I don't know whether there really needs to be a separate article on this topic or not, but if you think so, and believe that the article does or could be made to meet Wikipedia's requirements, then I encourage you to take the prod off without delay. I'm tempted to do so myself, just on principle.
The bottom line is that prods are not meant to go ahead unless no one objects to them. If you object (which you do, by all indications) then simply delete the prod tag and make the would-be deleter take it to an AfD, if he so chooses. The article might end up getting deleted, nevertheless, if it goes to AfD, but at least that way it will be executed only after a fuller hearing, not on the summary judgement of a single editor.
Please answer me here, if you wish to answer. I'll "watch" this page for the next week or so.

Thanks for your help too.
[edit]Those articles on Christopher Columbus got a lot of edits from anonymous IPs today. I happened to catch one of the first when an IP inserted something to the effect, CC had "a big Colon" thinking no one would notice it, followed by the Serb theory comments with a book that is out of print. I requested semi-protection on both pages as several IPs have inserted the same comments today. Having to reverse the edits interrupted my football games. Ronbo76 03:58, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

How Much?
[edit]No offense taken, I appreciate your bluntness. To return your honesty, i'd have to concur that you're probably not ready either statistically: I thought you must've had around 6,000; not 2,000. I'll probably have 5,000 edits by the end of today at this rate. currently at 4,734. How many project space edits in your opinion? If I can't find a nominator after 500 or so, i'll self nom. I'll get to that soon as well at this rate. Just H 07:27, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Category:Military brat
[edit]Well, somebody beat me to the category of military brat, but I went through last night and updated all of the brats on the List of famous military brats to have the category on their page. Well, the category has already been nominated for deletion. The reasoning is because it is a "non-neutral" term and parental occupation is irrelevant. Thus, I'm letting people who have contributed to the Military brat article know so that they can support keeping the category. Here is the link to the discussion [1] Balloonman 20:26, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
You're welcome. . .
[edit]and, there might be a page you could help me with: DJ Disco Wiz. Earlier today this page was nominated for speedy deletion. It was deleted twice and recreated twice by the user who self-created it. Thinking he would be shifty, he created another page Dj Disco Wiz. User talk:DJDWIZ and User talk:Lizettefc keep recreating the pages and putting his questionable claims on other articles like Disc jockey. Several other editors took a look; deleted the pages but did nothing to block the users. I kinda feel like I was battling them today like I did the vandal IPs yesterday. I put a warning on both Talkpages but the other editors did not (to the best of my knowledge). Thanks, Ronbo76 02:14, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
What really surprised me is that one of the editors, who deleted one of the pages, did not issue a warning or nominate either/both page for speedy deletion again. I put the proposed for but no one did a second. I was lucky to catch the second page Dj Disco Wiz because his sockpuppet, User talk:Lizettefc is on my Watchlist. I hate going into dogfights when Mav sitting on the deck. . . Ronbo76 02:28, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Man, the sockpuppeter stuff takes a bit
[edit]I just did the page Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/DJDWIZ. Man, it takes a lot to nominate. I took a quick look at my main user page but the templates are not showing up. Mav, do you have that number of the truck master school?Ronbo76 05:00, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- Figured out what was wrong. The button showed "Hide" with nothing displayed. When I click that button, it shows "Show". Click that and warning templates show. Those buttons rock! Wait, I just saw Giselle Blondet in a white dressM. What were we talking about? Oh yeah, my hatsize? That's a military secret. If I told you, I've have to kill you. . .Ronbo76 02:00, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Sharkface217. Thank you very much for your message. At the moment I will be taking things easy with seeking adminship status for at least the next couple of months. However, I would like to stand again and hopefully be promoted. Your offer is very kind and I accept very graciously. I would wait myself until possibly March or April at the earliest and will let you know when if you would like to co-nominate me. Could you explain your vote?
[edit]I've indicated I'm doing a number of things similar to other admin candidates. I have ~ 4,000 edits. My edit history shows I've spent substantial time and made considerable contributions to WP:AFD, WP:AIV. and other areas you've mentioned. I've underplayed my candidacy, but I encourage you to take a second look at my edit record, Perhaps you might be willing to consider awaiting input from sysops who are familiar with it. Wickey Selpub Factor
[edit]Wickey Selpub Factor (n. pna How do I self Wiki-publish Factor) - The Wickey Selpub Factor (WSF) is defined as what some people will do to get themselves listed on something other than a blank wall (grafiti), MySpuce dot com or their other fantasy isle location where they are king. The WSF is usually closely followed by an editor who has a big black dog (The Fast Eddy Wheelie Theory) to take care of their vandal edits. Typos in the WSF help because they usually become a searchable factor on the Interfet SEarch Engene of your choice and why this editar included as an exampill in this sentence.
Seriously, if you leave this on your talkpage, I believe in a week or less it will become a searchable term. ;) Ronbo76 09:53, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- No, it is a theory I have developed that concerns the self-publication of articles on Wikipedia. Basically, someone seeking more glory than just the self-postulates put up on private pages that do not get reviews will seek to find a legitimate place where their grandiose will last forever. Wikipedia is that place because it means they have arrived so to speak. If the stuff they post here sticks to the wall, the post becomes a searchable and citeable item. In researching self-posts, I have noticed that Wikipedia is usually the first place or hit someone seeking notable status gets besides dubious hits on answer dot com and then my space. One such spammer only had three internet search hits in this order: Wikipedia, answer.com and myspace. No, I am not advertising for anything. I had intended to follow up on my anti-vandal ways but came up against two editors last night that have quashed my desire. Ronbo76 20:40, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- To tell you the truth, your initial post on my talkpage disheartens me even more. I went on vandal patrol last night, and the only thanks I got was the implied teeth kick-in by two editors. Ronbo76 21:53, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your support
[edit]Thank you for your support in the RfA on my behalf. It is an honor to have received your expression of confidence. To be chosen as an administrator requires a high level of confidence by a broad section of the community. Although I received a great deal of support, at this time I do not hold the level of confidence required, and the RfA did not pass. It is my wish that I will continue to deserve your confidence. Sincerely, --BostonMA talk 20:12, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Your RfA feedback
[edit]Hello Sharkface217, I appreciated your comments on W:Requests for adminship/Shirahadasha. You had indicated that I didn't have an adequate answer to Q1 and hadn't provided sufficient information about scuffles with other editors or how I might enforce the policies. I appreciate your providing feedback on these issues, and I've attempted to provide more material on these matters. Other admins have also weighed in regarding their experiences observing me. Thanks for taking the time to review my candidacy, and I appreciate your expressing a willingness to consider my additional responses. Best Wishes, --Shirahadasha 01:14, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

My test worked - Wickey Selpub Factor
[edit]Guess what? The test worked and in less than three days. Please see: the search forWickey Selpub Factor on Yahoo. I almost feel like publishing this as it vindicates my theory. Do the search and you will get one hit. My original theory concerned what some people will do to get self-published. It arose because in an AfD I nominated, there was a mispelled word similiar to one in this article Ha-Ash. That mispell is "epynomus" and you can see my thoughts on that article's talkpage. I may ask for a helpme to see how to bubble this up to the admin types. Ronbo76 16:18, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- If you have read my userpage, some of the self-publishing vandals have put up pages that are either vanity bios, business ads or something in between. The way a smart young user could use my theory is to create an article that meets the basic wiki standards. Then over the years add stuff with newpaper article titles that really exist (even better if your last name is in it as you could claim that was a typo) and build a bio that becomes searchable. The other night this user Curtis Newart that flashed onscreen when I did a Recent Changes check like you mention. I caught an error that he made in a change displayed onscreen. Turns out this guy is the owner of the record company Immaculate Records. Part of what caught my attention on his direct named page is that he claims that he received support from "Oprah Winfrey, Elizabeth Taylor, Bob Hope, RuPaul, Carol Burnett, Ned Beatty". After I AfD both articles, he put a bunch of Canadian newspaper article citations that are non-searchable. He might be a legit one-hit wonder but it appears to me and others that he is trying to build a searchable business and market for his CD. Ronbo76
- In your example, the book ("ZYZZYSDDS and Friends") now becomes searchable in three days because it is on my talkpage. It amazed me that answer.com and reference.com cache Wikipedia's talkpages. The prime reason in the cases I provided are because of the typos. ZYZZYSDDS should become a double searchable because now it is on your page. If you were to cleanup the title and present a good wiki page, in a couple of years you could cite yourself as printed author. Ronbo76 20:23, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- BTW, you are now self-published. ZYZZYSDDS is now searchable here by requesting the [Yahoo search on ZYZZYSDDS]. For some reason, Yahoo picks or gets hits on Wiki better than the other search engines. What really amazes me is that Yahoo caches our Wiki talkpages - meaning everything is being cached potentially which could be really bad ju-ju beans with other searchable ramifications. You outta put your article up on Wikipedia - strike that. A big black dog in the form of an aluminum cloud would make a visit (and it would not be pretty). Ronbo76 13:51, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

The problems with the article were listed in the prod tag I put on it and the other tags that are still there. Nothing in the article is sourced and everything that isn't mention of a plot point is original research. Fixing the problems means finding some sources that actually discuss the topic and using their information, rather than things you've just heard or think of but can't source. My RFA
[edit]Hey, thanks so much for supporting my recent RFA. A number of editors considered that I wasn't ready for the mop yet and unfortunately the RFA did not succeed (69/26/11). There are a number of areas which I will be working on (including changing my username) in the next few months in order to allay the fears of those who opposed my election to administrator.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for your support over the past week. I've been blown away by the level of interest taken in my RFA and appreciate the time and energy dedicated by all the editors who have contributed to it, support, oppose and neutral alike. I hope to bump into you again soon and look forward to serving you and Wikipedia in any way I can. Cheers! You supported the article last nomination. Could you please resupport it as the nomination restrated? The Placebo Effect 22:16, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
