Discussion at MMA WikiProject on determining notability of fighters.

[edit]

Howdy! If you haven't seen it, there is a discussion at the MMA WikiProject on determining the notability of fighters. Since you like to create a lot of new articles on fighters it may be helpful to have your input on the matter as well. --TreyGeek (talk) 04:53, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, be aware that the Mix Fighting Championship (the original page) is not the Maximum Fighting Championship (the name you moved it to). "Mix" doesn't seem very notable though, so just can probably just rewrite parts of the page and make it about "Maximum" :) --aktsu (t / c) 05:28, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok thats fine, ill do they rewriting as soon as i can, any help from you would be great!Sepulwiki 05:35, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

I'll have to get some sleep after staying up late and watching the fights (it's morning already here :\), but I did some quick fixups (removed stuff, added the champions I found via a quick search, links etc.) so it's hopefully OK until someone decides to do a proper expansion. --aktsu (t / c) 05:45, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, try to keep an eye on Mike Aina and ShoMMA if you can. I can imagine they'll receive some vandalism after what happened. If it gets to bad just request protection at WP:RPP. Cheers, --aktsu (t / c) 05:49, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, i figured doing so anyways...haha.Sepulwiki 05:51, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Hey, while you're at least going at it properly (adding categories, sources etc) - I've got to ask: why use time and effort on pages like Seigo Inoue? The guy has a sub .500 record and lost his only fight in a major organization (as opposed to say Michihiro Omigawa) and thus doesn't seem like he's going anywhere. I could understand it if there was something interesting or otherwise notable about they guy, but as it stands all we're left with is an article echoing his record on on Sherdog thus just creating more unnecesarry work for us in keeping it updated as he presumably keeps fighting other non-notables in Deep. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I'd really like to see your effort put into either creating proper articles (as opposed to just a fight record) on actual prospects/more unknown established fighters or expanding existing articles. While having articles for everybody is "nice" in the sense that their record is just one click away, keeping stuff updates is far more work that it's worth don't you agree? --aktsu (t / c) 00:04, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with most of what your saying, but the article is notable in more than one way, he is getting another fight for M-1 Mixfight and just got assigned to Team Japan. He is also the nephew of Enson Inoue, i will take your advice and try not to create the not so important articles, what actually made me do Seigo was because i saw the Mike Dolce article, it would be nice if you would not put Seigo up for deletion, if in a couple of months his career gets worse ill consider deleting it myself.Sepulwiki 00:13, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

You should add that stuff to the article then :) I know searching up info (and proper sources) on these guys is hard, but creating actual articles is what we should be about. Looking at the Google-translated version of his page on Sengoku-Official you could make a pretty decent article one him: he was a runner-up in "JTC 2005 National" at 67kg (..whatever that is :p) and the winner of Deep's 2007 Future King Tournament. A career-recap mentioning that and what you said would make at least a few sections, which is basically how I wrote Jung Chan Sung, and I think most would agree something like that is far prefered to just the record. --aktsu (t / c) 00:34, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And thank you for your positive feedback and help, actually alot of what i know is observing your articles.Sepulwiki 01:10, 25 May 2009 (UTC) Agreed, I think if you have the height, weight, birthdate and a paragraph of text should make everyone satisfied with the article. Im going to work on it now.Sepulwiki

Templates etc.

[edit]

Hey again! I meant to mention this above but forgot: your're missing a few fields in the templates in your newly-created articles. The full MMAstatsbox can be viewed here (scroll down to "examples") and and the full MMArecordbox can be viewed here. They're also both used at e.g. Joe Warren (fighter) if you want to copy them that way.

Also, when using the same ref multiple times, such as at Antonio Carvalho, instead of listing it multiple times making it appear multiples times in the reflist as well you can just add name=(something) in the first ref (e.g. <ref name=sherdogff>(whatever)</ref>, and just use <ref name=(something) /> (notice the /) for the ref subsequently. Preferably, you should also use the cite-templates instead of just the urls in the refs (which is what TreyGeek was talking about above), but it's a far smaller deal compared to that there actually is a source so it's totally up to you (sidenote: usine the cite-templates becomes far easier if you enable the refTool under Properties->Gadgets which gives you a button for creating them).

Lastly, I've tried out a new format for the fight-record on a few pages (Eddie Alvarez, Shinya Aoki and Joe Warren (fighter)). It includes a different ordering of the rows (similar to how it's listed at the event-pages) as well as (and more importantly) the weightclass fought at. I also used a header at the top to show the full record instead of the MMAstatsbox as I though it looked better at the time. Not sure how I feel about the header now though, so any opinions are welcome. The thing was, if you prefer that format as well you're definetly welcome to use it :)

Cheers, --aktsu (t / c) 06:14, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

KSW XII

[edit]

Why do you keep erasing the Polish national flag from Dawid Baziak? Please stop doing that. Also, Maksim Grishin is - according both to KSW (http://www.myland.pl/ksw/archiwum/ksw12/fightcard.jpg) and sherdog (http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Maxim-Grishin-33201) - Russian. Do you have a source to confirm he is from Belarus? Nilgsson (talk) 15:33, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

About Grishin - I think that KSW should know better than you where the fighters it hires come from. But like I said, not sure here - mistakes happen and I don't correct others if I am not 100% sure it is true. I would strongly advise you to act the same way. Dawid Baziak and also his bother Damian are born and raised in Poland, by Polish parents, speak Polish (even during their fights) and have Polish nationality. As you mention origin of names - as a matter of fact Baziak is also a Polish name. They moved to Germany several years ago, live there and train there - that is why they are fighting out of Germany. I hope this is clear, so again - stop erasing the Polish flag Nilgsson (talk) 18:45, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok so we agree :) KSW starts in 30mins, I have to go buy some beer. Cheers :) Nilgsson (talk) 19:10, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Kim Couture. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kim Couture. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:31, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled

[edit]

Hello, this is just to let you know that I have granted you the "autopatrolled" permission. This won't affect your editing, it just automatically marks any page you create as patrolled, benefiting new page patrollers. Please remember:

  • This permission does not give you any special status or authority
  • Submission of inappropriate material may lead to its removal
  • You may wish to display the {{Autopatrolled}} top icon and/or the {{User wikipedia/autopatrolled}} userbox on your user page
  • If, for any reason, you decide you do not want the permission, let me know and I can remove it
If you have any questions about the permission, don't hesitate to ask. Otherwise, happy editing! Acalamari 21:31, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Damion Douglas has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Nothing to suggest the subject is notable in any way.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. James Thompson Flag Icon

[edit]

First off, most of your edits going through your contributions are removal of content or reverts and wikipedia policies require an edit summary which you rarely do. Second, I feel James Thompson's flag icon should read UK since boxers (see Mike Tyson#Professional boxing record who fought multiple UK Fighters), olympic athletes, and UFC Fighters are credited as being from the UK not the individual administrative divisions like you're trying to do with Thompson. Revert my edit, I don't care but discuss this with me and input you're opinion or I'll go over you and create a discussion on this at the MMA project page.--Rockchalk717 08:03, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

i stopped making an edit summary when my last 2,000 or so edits are focused on vandalism and errors in spelling, etc. I also devote a porition of my edits to actually creating MMA Articles, if you take a look on my user page you can view how well my articles are made and edited, I maintain my articles and prevent vandalism, if you also look at other users contribition you will see not every edit gives a summary. as far as James Thompson i think you should just go say whatever it is you have to say about the flag icon on the MMA project page, cheers. Sepulwiki

You still haven't honored my request for why it should be England not UK. All I'm doing is trying to figure out since there is no policy on here MOS:FLAG just says you can go either way. I'm new to editing MMA articles and even created UFC flyweight fighter Tim Elliott's page. I'll stop the edit war about it, I just want your reasoning so I can get more information to form my educated opinion. BTW, I do apologize for threats they were unjustified.

The reason for the flag icon change is that the United Kingdom is a soverign state, the flags on wikipedia usually represent the country they fight out of or were born in, James Thompson was born and fights out of the country England, I even watched some of his fights on youtube and in most of them he is billed from England. I have never seen any article on here where someone felt as if the flag icon should be a soverign state or land locked state, it has and always will be the country. hope this clears everything up for you buddy, and fyi im not here to get into a edit war with you or anyone else, im not a wiki nazi and spend alot of my free time on here stoned and editing articles for the past 4 years, you have been on here for only a year and your doing a great job, any questions just ask me.

Thanks not a problem. You did clear it up a bit. While I'm thinking of it, I noticed you did some cleanup on Elliott's page. In that saw you changed Spoon's first name to Jerrod. I got the spelling Jerod from his Sherdog profile and every result for his name in Google had that spelling. Just letting you know that's not a "so there" comment lol.--Rockchalk717 06:40, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

lol yeah after you mentioned i looked at your Tim Elliot article to see if i could help, i thought that might have been a small error as i could find no errors on your article, haha sorry if i messed it up. great job with article friend

Thanks. I was worried about some bias or possible WP:COI violations because I actually went to high school with him and was on the wrestling team with him and could walk right up to him and start a conversation even without him thinking I'm a crazy fan.--Rockchalk717 03:23, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted the vandalism to the way the page was a week ago, not sure what you fixed but the past 7 days the page looked terrible. the way i have it is the most accurate before all the edits destroyed the article.

How were you able to do a complete revert without putting everything back in? When I tried to do it, it was telling me I had to fix it manually because there were intermediate conflicts.Willdawg111 (talk) 21:44, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wow. That Jean fellow is elusive, and I dont think his name is helping him any with the accent marks and funny characters. I'll throw in some boolean operators tommorow. I will look a little harder tommorow as well, but usually when I do these searches I come up with at least something to work with rather quickly. The wikiproject's style guide says that we shouldn't have stuff on matches that have not happened yet. Also, Rengoku is Japanese for Purgatory. We don't translate move names just because Dramatic DDT does. Pretty much everything in an article should be sourced, including the supposed "Purgatory" name and anyone who saw the article would be right to remove any unsourced moves (some of which seem made up anyway)Ribbon Salminen (talk) 18:34, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

New 10,000 Challenge for Canada

[edit]

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge is up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile! Cheers. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:55, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
