Hi Scourgeofsmallishinsects, I liked your name so much I wanted to see your user page. And didn't fail to notice your deliberate trick spelling mistake.Bengalski 22:20, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
Transporters and such
[edit]The Star Trek versus Star Wars page is about the debate not to debate the universes as such I will answer you questions here. My best advise is to read the sites about this subject and draw your own conclusions. The wiki star wars pages are also good and contain useful info. Though I would say Stardestroyer.net is the best and clostest to the truth.
Your points in a nut shell (sorry if there are some errors I was doing this with out checking source and just on memory) transporter beams are stopped by shields, the Borg are just like any one else, the Q have never intervened militarily in any star trek conflict, Species 8472 come from a alternate dimension and so why would they get involved, the Scimitar is not only just one ship but has never been shown to be all that umber, time travel has never gone back that far( the modern day being the observed limit) and star wars has had a galactic civilization of a similar level to what it had in the movies for thousand of years, the federation have no Genesis Missiles and it would take them more time to make them than they have before they are defeated that's if they can make them at all any more, V'er wanted to merge with the humans that created it, why would it attack another group of humans, if star trek can go across a system in a few hours then it is doing it at FTL not Sub-light, phasers are not FTL fed ships create a warp bubble and the phases would still be in that, both photon torpedoes and quantum torpedoes are star trek weapons, hyper drive is not slower than warp it took voy years to get half way across the galaxy last in ROTS palps was able to go from the core to the other rim in less time than it took darth Vader to dire, star wars has clocking tech too, there is no proof that it is a perfect clock only it dose not leave any of the sings a federation ship is capable to detect in 30 seconds of looking. As to your last point it is very uncommon for two sci fi to have comparable power ratings such that changing ship class really makes a difference, also star wars has bigger ships too (1.6 km star destroyer v 18 km Executor).
All of that was just word play, the true heart of the debate is the analyzing of weapon firepower from events in canon sources and comparing them. Also important is the amount of unified fleets that can be brought to bare and what each side would do to achieve victory. --Elfwood 19:17, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Transporters and such 2
[edit]“Genesis missles are simple to make” got any proof of this.
“Star Trek impulse drives travel up past ninety percent of the speed of light” you clearly don’t understand motion in space. There is not speed limit for a Newtonian drive save the speed of light. To cross the solar system at sub light takes over a day at the very least.
“far faster than star wars ships” You give no evidence of this.
“Star Wars shields are generally weaker than Star Trek shields.” Again no evidence, in fact star wars shields are orders of magnitude more powerful (see ICS:AOTC).
“Beaming through them would be relatively simple.” Name one time when t he strength of a ships shields have been important to beaming through them.
“The modified Voyager would rip apart a Star Destroyer, due to its further futuristic technology and Borg modifications.” There is no evidence of this, there weapons would need to be millions of times stronger than any other federation vessels for this to be true.
“The Borg are centuries ahead of anyone else, and have almost unlimited resources/troops/ships to throw at enemies, though they seldom do due to the fact they expand slowly.” And the star wars galaxy has been advancing for 40,000. They are no were near unlimited, 8472 was beating them by blowing up there planets which is exactly what the empire could do. Also the Borg have a small empire compared to the Galactic Empire which rules the entire galaxy.
“They can also refill their ranks with their enemies, and will adapt to any type of energy/laser type weapon after five shots (the whole collective), and Star Wars has shown no capability of remodulating their weaponry without taking it apart, whereas Star Trek can do it in seconds.” They would need to be capable of hurting a starwars ship to get any troops which they are not, also the borg have only ever shown the ability to adapt to frequency based attacks, saying they could adapt to a SW turbo laser would be like adapting to having unlimited bricks fall on there head or a star (which we know kills them).
“The Federation has enough ships to defend themselves long enough to bring out heavy weaponry.” They empire is a galaxy spanning empire the federation have 150 member worlds they do not have a huge fleet in comparison.
“Please corraborate your research on Star Wars having cloaking devices” Episode 3 (or might be 4 the one with the asteroid seen were Han uses the old smuggling) “that ship is too small to have a clocking devise”.
“Star Trek has far better sensor technology than Star Wars” Any evidence for this claim.
“The Star Wars galaxy is self-evidently very small, as the official speed for hyper drive is 1.5 times the speed of light.” Stop lying no one says 1.5 times the speed of light they say 1.5 past light speed. The lower the number the faster the ship, see the wiki article on hyperdrive. Also the star wars galaxy is bigger than our own (complete locations).
“The milky way is very large as a galaxy” No its not.
“There are far more introduced Star Trek species than Star Wars species, so Star Trek could win by sheer force of numbers.” No I am sorry, first you want all these people to magically work together and then fight a unified force that is trained to work together. It dose not mater how many individual forces are involved but the power each brings to the table, in fact a larger number is worse.
“Star Trek's sociopolitical tendencies have a higher rate of cultural and technological developement than Star Wars, and so would develop new technologies faster.” Dose not matter, the war will be over long before any of that happens.
“Time travel in Star Trek has gone back farther than the modern day by billions of years in Star Trek (All Good Things). Even a few hundred years is an awesome advantage.” They did not do it on purpose in all good things there is no evidence they could do it again. And no jumping a few ships back in time would be useless.
“Imagine losing a battle, then sending back orders through time to divert more ships there before the battle to win the battle.” First the federation dose not physically have the ships to defeat what the empire could send and second how would you know the effects of the those changes, you remove ships and maybe the they empire attacks there, they can travel the galaxy in days, it is physically impossible for the federation to dictate when battles happen.
“Or sending an asteroid back through time to appear right where an enemy ship was.” Proof that they could do this.
“If the Scimitar thaylaron weaponry was used in more ships with slightly less foolhardy crews and cloaks that good, it would make a significant advantage.” It has never shown able to go through shields and the time it would take to out fit the war would be over.
“Star Trek has replicators, which would allow a definate advantage when it came tofood” Dose not matter the war would be over before logistics become a major problem. “Significantly less resources would have to be spent on food production, and it would be nearly impossible to starve out a Star Trek planet in a seige.” Why would they seige the empire has the advantage in nearly ever from firepower to speed.
But you still don’t seem to get that everything above (apart from maybe the hyper drive bit) was meaning. According the ICS:AOTC the empire have 20 year old ships (transport ships no less) with 200 gigaton guns. The federation has at most 64 megaton photon torpedoes (from 1.5 kg of antimatter per torp) that’s means the empires weapons are 3571 times more powerful than the federation.--Elfwood 08:47, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
Star Lifting and Stellar engines
[edit]With regards to your comment on Talk:Stellar engine, you might have a look at the page on Star lifting. I've not heard of trying to use stellar magnetic effects to repel a planet - but stellar lifting uses can use the effects of magnetic field manipulation to propel the star - using "Thermal-driven outflow" but only through one of the two poles. Or so the theory goes :D - Vedexent 18:57, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
