So you think I should go over my native dab link fixes and change some to link to your recovered native dab page? I think some of the links I deleted (for various reasons, probably mostly because the link was on the 4th or 5th instance of the world, or because the context seemed to imply the definition). I dunno, I probably used less than adequate judgement on more than one occasion. What would you suggest? Xaxafrad 04:39, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

I found one of your disambiguations was wrong (the one on Peneia Pony). I went to the native page, and the right one wasn't there, so I restored but formatted the page so it had all the things on it as a proper disambig page. As a disambiguation page, you are right that it should have very few links to that page - in general they should be fixed to point to the specific article. All I suggest is being careful when disambiguating links. I hope my actions and edit summaries were not offensive. Thankyou for disambiguating the links in to that page. --Scott Davis Talk 05:32, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Bratva

Please give me the definition of bratva? I am lil confused!

Moyshe Chicago, IL USA —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.74.115.90 (talkcontribs) 18:46, 13 May 2006

Bratva is a slang term for Eastern European organized crime groups. You are a little confused - searching is a better solution than asking on a random user's talk page. --Scott Davis Talk 10:28, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Rossi Boots UK

Is it not fair to have a separate link to the UK distributor seeing as people in the UK find it extremely difficult to source these boots? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.79.14.104 (talkcontribs)

This is an encyclopaedia, not a web shopping site. Taken to its logical conclusion, that logic could have four brands for each of 200 countries! The reason for the links that are on Australian work boots are to show that these boots exist and are popular. There are only four links so we're not being biased by only showing one or two, which would be more appropriate. It would also seem wrong to replace the main Rossi website by the UK dstributor. The Rossi website has a stockist locator email service and international phone numbers to help UK and other people find their boots. --Scott Davis Talk 23:24, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Okay, I can't argue with your reasoning. Sounds fair. Thanks for taking the time to explain. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.79.14.104 (talkcontribs)

Hi Scott. I have started a proposal at Portal talk:Australia for an inclusion of an anniversary/on this day section to be displayed on the portal. If you are interested in this making this happen, you can comment there or go to the anniversary pages and adding in things that you consider to be notable. "Someone" should pick a place, date and time, and see who comes. I don't know good spots in the CBD though. --Scott Davis Talk 08:29, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
But we need people to suggest their ideal location/time so we can optimize it.Blnguyen | rant-line 08:31, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
Consensus appears to be Adelaide CBD or North Adelaide. As I understand it, you'd have a better idea than I. Somewhere quiet enough we can all hear whatever someone says, but that doesn't matter if we do start to make some noise. I suggest picking a place and either an evening or weekend afternoon, and see if others agree to the proposal. Perhaps late next week or next weekend. Maybe we'll get in after Peripitus' busy time, and before CJ goes away. My busy time is over for now. We should have somewhere either with or near food at a price the students can afford. --Scott Davis Talk 09:59, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Hey - http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=South_Australia&diff=55572508&oldid=55569375 - not sure what you're trying to do (i'm still new at this) so i'll leave you to fix it up... at this point, clicking on the link does nothing, has a wikipedia url. Timeshift 14:38, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

Working my way down the page, and hadn't got to putting <references/>at the bottom yet. Now I have, and can see the typos in the refs so far. Sorry. I'll fix them in a minute. --Scott Davis Talk 14:41, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Ahh so that is how it works. Learning more about wikipedia every day :-) Timeshift 17:43, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Yep. WP:FA talks about the goal. WP:CITE discusses the referencing principals. Wikipedia:Footnotes describes how to use and m:Cite/Cite.php describes the implementation of the system I'm using — it seems the simplest and most common now. The citation formatting templates are listed at WP:CITET. --Scott Davis Talk 23:07, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

Re: Brig. Slater

I have changed your two links from Michael Slater (soldier) to Michael Slater (army) because as a commissioned officer, Brig. Slater is not normally considered to be a soldier. and there were two other links as well (I made them). I'd use Michael Slater (brigadier) but he might get promoted to Michael Slater (general). If you can think of a better term, there are currently 4 links to change, and should possibly be one from Michael Slater too, especially if an article is written. --Scott Davis Talk 05:06, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

I had it as "soldier" because the usual way to disambiguate people is by occupation (and nationality if necessary). But that is a good argument for not using it, which I had totally overlooked. Perhaps Michael Slater (officer)? I'm fine with "army" otherwise. --bainer (talk) 05:57, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
I think "officer" is a very vague term, "army" gives a better idea of why he's notable (until such time he becomes governor of some state or enters politics or business). I'd have considered Michael Slater (Australia), but that clashed with the other one anyway. Thanks. It's probably more important to write the article than the discussion of its name, anyway :-/ --Scott Davis Talk 23:18, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Re: nominating a picture

Hi Scott. Sorry for the delay in replying. There isn't any formal nomination procedure - simply raise it on the portal's talk page. I have been preparing to convert the selected picture to the queue system, and once I have done that, new pictures can be added simply to the next avaliable week. --cj | talk 09:12, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Re: Thankyou

In this particular case, I didn't notice that the flag was already protected on Commons, making the uploading unnecessary. However, to upload a file from Commons on en, save the file, and then re-upload it under the same file-name, using {{c-uploaded}}, making sure to protect the image once it is uploaded and then copying all relevant image information from Commons. The uploaded and protected image will then overwrite the Commons image. Let me know if that is clear. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 00:10, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Did you read the discussion page in the List of Sicilian municipalities before you made the change back to Sinagra (ME)? While I had initially toyed with using the Italian abbreviation, one of the project members advised that it would mean nothing to an English speaking audience, and thus we were better off using "(Sicily)". This will work because more often than not the comune name is shared across regions, not within a region. I am not sure why you are so keen to use "(ME)". Think about what we do in the Australian articles, and I am sure we have no equivalent to using such an abbreviation, but we do use the State names (and afterall, Sicily is an autonomous region within Italy). ρ¡ρρµ δ→θ∑ - (waarom? jus'b'coz!) 07:24, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

No I didn't. But I did read what links to Sinagra (ME) (about 14 including a navigation template), what links to Sinagra (Sicily) (at the time 2 links that I changed back) and Wikipedia:Naming conventions (city names)#Italy all of which suggested Sinagra (ME) would be the correct name for an article on the town when it is created.. --Scott Davis Talk 07:37, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Ok - thanks Scott - I didn't realise that en.wiki was following the Italian convention - I was surprised to discover that, but it makes things easier and clearer. ρ¡ρρµ δ→θ∑ - (waarom? jus'b'coz!) 09:13, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Looks good. The section "Outbreak" still looks a bit odd, but no worse than it did before you started. I notice the German version also links to candle and match, so that must have been quite a strange time in Nauru. Thanks. --Scott Davis Talk 09:53, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Hillsong

Why didn't you clean up some of the other unverifiable nonsense in the entry such as those in the music section? Albatross2147 00:06, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Short answer: I haven't gotten around to it. Long answer: I cleaned up the section that bugged me the most. I believe that there is some controversy surrounding Hillsong, but that the section on moral failures especially was unfair to the people involved, did not adequately reflect the controversy, and was not properly referenced, but at a glance looked like it was. Hopefully some regular editors will chime in and reference the bits they care about. I think most of the music section would be OK with references. The trouble with articles like this is that most people who bother editing have a strong bias either pro- or anti- and it's difficult to find the neutral ground. --Scott Davis Talk 00:32, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Thumb size

Thanks for the tip - although so many people have already specified sizes (me for starters!) that I don't know whether this approach will work for Wikipedia as a whole. I may remove the size spec on pages I'm largely responsible for, but I don't think I could justify removing them from everyone elses, and without doing that I'm not sure the preference gets us very far. Still, I'm relatively new to this, so there's every possibility I'm wrong! :-D 4u1e 21:32, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the further info - interesting to see how it goes! 4u1e 10:32, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Wendy Richardson

Thanks for your editting of that article.

--Amandajm 15:39, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

I know MoS:DAB says no bolding, but... on this one particular page I didn't remove the bolding because there are 19 American Wilmingtons, of which three are major cities, and all the rest are really quite small. Personally, I feel the bolding of the three most significant is helpful. Can I persuade you to reconsider? CarolGray 18:57, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

I'd prefer to sort them if there's a significant step between the big ones and the rest. MoS:DAB#Order of entries:
In most cases, place the items in order of usage, with the most-used meanings appearing at the top and less common meanings below.
I'll have a go at that and see what you think. --Scott Davis Talk 23:05, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I like that. Thank you. CarolGray 08:26, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
