- i want to write article on my published research work. How can I transfer copyrights to wikipedia so that wikipedia can use material text of my research work under its desired license? Scientist LG (talk) 12:18, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
- You can't transfer copyright to Wikipedia per se; you'd have to release your work under a free licence so that anyone could reuse, alter, sell or redistribute it (see donating copyrighted material). However, the text of a research paper is rarely suitable for use in Wikipedia anyway; whilst we might be able to use your work as a reference (assuming it has been published in a reliable, peer-reviewed journal) we would not use its actual text as the content of an article. my research is published in reliable peer reviewed journal and i want to use them under CC-BY-SA 3 .0 License so that every one can use materal, texts of my research, so which type of tag should i put on the top of my article ?Scientist LG (talk) 12:37, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
- What's the actual paper? If we know which journal you've published in, and how the work is currently licensed, we'll be in a much better position to help. Yunshui 雲水 12:42, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
Dear sir, this is the link of journal in which my research paper was published, http://www.ijcaonline.org/archives/volume84/number16/14658-2551 in (Volume 84, Number 16 "ISBN: 973-93-80879-36-7") (PentSatate and The University of Washington are in affiliation) This journal has registered impact factor . http://www.ijcaonline.org/ijca-statistical-data Scientist LG (talk) 12:57, 2 January 2014 (UTC) and my 2nd research paper is published at this link. http://www.iosrjournals.org/iosr-jap/pages/v4i3.html ( my research paper is at 1st No. on index with the author name asif ali laghari) sir I need your kind repose and helpScientist LG (talk) 12:57, 2 January 2014 (UTC) And i will not use actual texts of research paper as contents of article, but i will write it in scientific way according to Wikipedia's policy. Scientist LG (talk) 13:07, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
- I'm afraid it looks very much as though the the IJCA's copyright transfer terms are not compatible with Wikipedia (specifically, point 4 would negate a CC-BY-SA licence). Assuming you used their standard copyright transfer form, the text couldn't be used here. As I said above, though, there is no reason that your work cannot be used as a source for existing Wikipedia articles: I'd suggest you post a message at Talk:Maxwell's equations suggesting the use of your papers in citation. If you want to write about your research itself, you'll need to provide multiple independent sources (i.e. not you, your associates or your institution) that discuss it - if other people have written about your research then it would meet Wikipedia's inclusion criteria. If the only currently publishing on the topic is you, however, then Wikipedia would not support such an article. Yunshui 雲水 13:17, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
Ok, can i use my research work as citations in related Wikipedia's current articles as you listed ? i mean can i make edits in these articles such as in Maxwell's equations and Electromagnetism ? Scientist LG (talk) 13:24, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
- It would be preferable to discuss them on the article's talkpage first - given that you'd have something of a conflict of interest, it would be more prudent to make suggestions and let other editors add the actual content. However, there's no hard-and-fast rule that says you can't add citations to your own work - just be prepared to discuss rather than revert if another editor objects to your changes and removes them. - Ok sir, thank you very much for your kind response and help, I'm going to discuss it on their talk page first Scientist LG (talk) 13:34, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
