Hello, Sciencebasedresearch, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like this place and decide to stay.

Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Origin of the Kurds, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. HistoryofIran (talk) 20:06, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dear @HistoryofIran,Thank you for your message. I appreciate your concern for maintaining Wikipedia's standards. I want to clarify that the content I added was indeed supported by reliable, peer-reviewed sources, which were properly cited in my edit. Specifically:
- Hennerbichler, F. (2014). "Kar-da-ka 21st ce. B.C.E. Karda Land of Valiant Mountain People Central Zagros East Terminological Analysis". Advances in Anthropology, 04(03), 168-198. DOI:10.4236/aa.2014.43021
- Zaken, M. (2007). "Jewish Subjects and Their Tribal Chieftains in Kurdistan: A Study in Survival". Brill, pages 1-2. ISBN: 9789004161900
These sources discuss the etymological connection between 'Kurd' and Sumerian 'Karda', as proposed by G.R. Driver, providing valuable historical context relevant to the article's scope. I noticed you tagged one source as "predatory publishing." However, Brill is a highly respected academic publisher, and Advances in Anthropology, while an open-access journal, follows peer-review processes.
If you have specific concerns about these sources, I'm open to discussing them on the article's talk page.I believe this information adds depth to the article and offers insights into early references to Kurdish people.
It's also more substantiated than the current claim of the name being a Middle Persian toponym.I'm happy to collaborate on improving the article while adhering to Wikipedia's standards. Perhaps we could discuss this further on the talk page to reach a consensus?
Best regards, Sciencebasedresearch (talk) 21:52, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You're not listening. HistoryofIran (talk) 22:52, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
EDIT: Partly my fault here, didn't notice you also cited Brill, which is indeed reliable. The other citation, however, was not per my edit summary. HistoryofIran (talk) 22:55, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not attack other editors, as you did at Talk:History of the Kurds. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. WP:ASPERSIONS, the next time you randomly accuse me of not being neutral or anything similar, I will report you to WP:ANI. On this encyclopedia project, editors assume good faith while interacting with other editors. This comment from @HistoryofIran indicates fallacious reasoning including "projection" (attributing own thoughts to another person), "appeal to hypocrisy" (deflecting criticism by accusing me of the same behaviour), "False attribution". I would like to report this to WP:ANI
I have never accused anyone of being not neutral. Only asked for a third opinion from a neutral person.
Please keep the conversation academic and respectful. Sciencebasedresearch (talk) 13:07, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
By all means, please report me, it will be a glorious WP:OUCH. HistoryofIran (talk) 13:13, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit(s) you made to Caucher Birkar, did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Read WP:ETHNICITY and stop changing everythinh into "Kurdish" here on Wikipedia. ---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 10:14, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

From WP:ETHNICITY: "neither previous nationalities nor the country of birth should be mentioned in the opening paragraph unless relevant to the subject's notability."
He is not an Iranian and no longer holds an Iranian passport.
"stop changing everythinh into "Kurdish" here on Wikipedia."
It seems this claim works for the "Iranian" instead. WP:ANI
He does explicitly state that he is British of Kurdish ethnicity and is against calling him an Iranian as he is not. Sciencebasedresearch (talk) 18:44, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just for your information :
  • [1] : "Professor Caucher Birkar is a UK-based Iranian Kurdish mathematician"
  • [2] : "Kurdish-Iranian Refugee Wins Fields Prize For Mathematics"
"Kurdish" is an ethnicity, thus irrelevant to the lead. His Kurdish background is well-detailed in the body of the article. Do not add it again.---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 16:20, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not command. The second link is self-citation! FYI: "Fields Medal winner, Kurd and British citizen with refugee status" [3]
We are here to publish information instead of misinformation. This is deviating the point about his academic work. Please read WP:ETHNICITY: "neither previous nationalities nor the country of birth should be mentioned in the opening paragraph unless relevant to the subject's notability."
Also, if we add irrelevant languages in front of his name why not including Hindi, Dari, Urdu, and so on in front of his name to make sure everyone reads it correctly? Please refrain from adding redundant information. They may be useful somewhere else. WP:ANI WP:NOTHERE Sciencebasedresearch (talk) 04:10, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Creating fabricated narratives does not favour countries in the long run. I encourage you to watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSdXX1oGRUg. He does not even bother to speak in that language.
Although I believe generally anyone with a proper education (from top universities) and research expereince (in top venues) can distinguish between reliable and distortive sources.
As I have more important things to do, I will try to update this later. I may ask himself to correct your disinformation and perpetuation of false narratives later on.
Best of luck with your attempts. WP:ANI WP:NOTHERE Sciencebasedresearch (talk) 11:20, 23 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
