Can you please sign your ALT1? Thx. --Rosiestep (talk) 01:06, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
McLean's Mansion
[edit]Hi Schwede. Thanks for suggesting those two. They'll be good articles. I've started on the mansion and will continue with it over the weekend. Do you want to work on the philanthropist out of sandbox? Cheers, --Rosiestep (talk) 14:28, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hello Rosie, it seems easier if we carry on with him in mainspace. Schwede66 18:27, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
Regarding a hook suggestion: ... that Allan McLean's mansion (pictured) was the largest wooden residence in New Zealand? --Rosiestep (talk) 22:25, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
Alt1: ... that a 78-year old bachelor had a 53-room mansion (pictured) built for him in Christchurch, New Zealand?
ALT1 is "hooky" so go with it! --Rosiestep (talk) 23:50, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
Cardboard Cathedral
[edit]Hi there. I'll look at it tomorrow, but the title alone is interesting. Cheers, --Rosiestep (talk) 06:23, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
Tonight after work (unless you're already done with it)! --Rosiestep (talk) 14:55, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
Meka Whaitiri
[edit]DYK nomination of Meka Whaitiri

Sandbox
[edit]Thanks for putting that in. Do you think the article is good enough for publication? It's still ongoing for the moment - the event - so I won't do it yet, but idk whether it's alright.Arsenalfan24 (talk) 22:27, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah I've only created one article before but that wasn't from the sandbox so if you could that would be good. Thanks.Arsenalfan24 (talk) 23:24, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
- Am I now able to wipe my Sandbox and start again?Arsenalfan24 (talk) 23:44, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
- After moving an article, the system leaves a redirect behind and that's all. So your sandbox is already 'wiped'. However, what you really want to do is set up article with its correct name from the start. Let me know what article title you have in mind and I'll show you. Schwede66 23:47, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
- I've created another article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Arsenalfan24/sandbox. I'm going to try and create a list of Tuvaluan ministries in a few days.Arsenalfan24 (talk) 01:09, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

Update?
[edit]Hmm, are you aware of the many years of wandering between prime and the amount of damage that has caused to editors and etc? I really think that it might seem an 'upgraded' and useful from your perspective, but lets just say someone actually manages to revert the idiocy of the primacy issue and it reverts to the correct title, Perth Western Australia? As it is too many geographically challenged outsiders call it Perth, Australia (which it is not, there are other Perths...) .. just a thought, I would have erred on the side of caution myself and left it. But hey, have fun if it does eventually revert back... sats 00:41, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
Vic Square
[edit]Good morning. I thought Victoria Square, Christchurch might interest you. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:28, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
FYI, Template:Did you know nominations/Victoria Square, Christchurch. If you can think of something else, please tweak the hook wording or suggest an ALT. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:16, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
Another new one, Hamish Hay Bridge. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:19, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry about suggesting another one so fast! --Rosiestep (talk) 03:06, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
- I was just joking. But there's lots more to add to the Vic Square one. Schwede66 03:25, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
And to think there wasn't an article on this square in wikipedia until now. So cool and so gratifying. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:52, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
The Press article with the architectural details is on the "Market Place Bridge". That is an earlier name of the Hamish Hay, right? It would make sense because of the square, but as Market Place Bridge hasn't been mentioned as a Hamish Hay alt, can you verify? --Rosiestep (talk) 14:22, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- I'll clarify that. Schwede66 18:48, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
FYI, Template:Did you know nominations/Hamish Hay Bridge. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:58, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- Great - thanks. Have just got my Avon River book off the shelf and it has 5 pages (!) on this bridge, so I'll add a few things. Schwede66 19:00, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
Let me know when you're up for another bridge... I'd like to work on Armagh Street Park Bridge (Armagh Street Bridge?). --Rosiestep (talk) 03:14, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- How about we write that one in userspace, and that way, it doesn't matter how long it takes? Here's a triple suggestion: ... that two registered heritage bridges in Christchurch's Armagh and Worcester Streets were both opened by Christchurch mayor Charles Hulbert?
- Very good idea. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:56, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
That's a lot of views. Good job! --Rosiestep (talk) 01:32, 24 August 2013 (UTC)
City First
[edit]Hello fellow Cantabrian; I am running in Riccarton-Wigram Ward for Community Board but not for City First. I wanted to create a page to which others could add to. I will accept that the deletion be accepted. LukeChandlerNZ (talk) 03:32, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- I suggest you read up on notability in general, and on notability for organisations (like political parties) in particular. Best of luck with you political ambitions. Schwede66 06:38, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
Paul Lonsdale
[edit]Will this be a CoI if I create a page for Paul Lonsdale? LukeChandlerNZ (talk) 03:34, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- I don't know whether Paul is affiliated with City First or whether you know him personally. If yes, then it probably is a CoI. I'm also not sure that he would meet notability requirements. I can't recall that I've ever seen anything in-depth about him in The Press.
- In general terms, it is not advisable to create bios while the person stands for election. We (the NZ politics task force) don't even do that budding MPs, who are often much more notable than Paul will be. So that there aren't any issues, we create bios for those candidates in project space, and only when they have been elected do we publish the bios. The last time we used that process was for Meka Whaitiri, and you will appreciate that she got heaps more media exposure than Paul ever will, but her article was only published after the preliminary results confirmed that she was elected without a doubt.
- So my advice is to not create a bio for Paul Lonsdale, at least not prior to the election. But of course I can't stop you from going ahead regardless, so it's your call. Schwede66 06:31, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- Today's two page write-up in the Mainlander section of The Press would tip the balance of notability in my opinion. I still suggest that you write the page after the election, but if you choose to do so now and it came to an AfD, I would support you with a 'keep' vote. Schwede66 20:31, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
Support
[edit]Thank you for your support. Among other things, I have created about half (30) of missing MLCs, and hope to finish the other 30 before Wilson goes back to the library. Now I will stalk off and do some more! Hugo999 (talk) 21:49, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, I saw all those bios popping up. Top effort. Will be good to have them all done, too. Schwede66 00:25, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
MLCs
[edit]I have added two more articles on MLCs to bring the main category total up to 330 + 1 list = 331. They are William Perry (politician) & Mahuta Tawhiao Potatau te Wherowhero. Hugo999 (talk) 02:30, 24 August 2013 (UTC)
- Found him as the third Maori King Mahuta Tāwhiao. Hugo999 (talk) 04:20, 24 August 2013 (UTC)
proper names
[edit]Probably you should read MOS PN, as, for example, prime minister is not a PN, Prime Minister Soandso is. But it really is a minor edit and I Will continue to label as such. Primergrey (talk) 03:04, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Can you please propose James Papalii article for deletion the biography has been requested by the living person to be deleted as this profile you insist on is inflammatory and makes the biography insulting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Manamangere (talk • contribs) 20:02, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
- This appears to be under action. But I'm not sure what is inflammatory about stating that somebody has got a conviction which was reported by one of the major newspapers. Schwede66 19:34, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
DYK for James Hargest
[edit]On 22 November 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article James Hargest, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that before James Hargest (pictured) was elected to the New Zealand Parliament, he had been defeated by a father and son in 1925 and 1930, respectively? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
This was left for me on my talkpage, but I think it belongs to you since I suspect that you were the editor who submitted the article to DYK (I can't find the nomination to confirm). Thanks for your contributions to the Hargest article, it really made the interwar period of his life more substantive. If you are interested, I'm now working on the Fred Waite article, feel free to chip in with content on his political career. Cheers. Zawed (talk) 09:15, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- Good to hear from you. No, this is your credit; I got my own credit, but I move them across to their own page. Here's a link to the nomination FYI. It was easy to chip in with Hargest, as I've got a couple of books at home that have the relevant info. I'll see what I can do about Waite, but it might not happen soon, as I'll try and concentrate on stubs during December. It's good fun collaborating on articles, and it's enjoyable working with quality editors! Schwede66 09:49, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
Clarification please...
[edit]After I left this comment] on User:Stuartyeates's talk page you left a barnstar, with the edit summary "disagree". Could you please clarify -- is your disagreement based on having a generally positive experience of working with this individual -- or did you actually take a look at the behavior that triggered my concern? Geo Swan (talk) 01:42, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
- I have replied on Stuartyeates' talk page. Schwede66 01:59, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
Tony Wilding
[edit]Hi, you asked "why not re-rate across all projects?" on the Tony Wilding talk page in response to my previous edit. The simple reason is that I was not entirely sure how an article is rated in those cases when it is part of multiple projects but some projects are only covered briefly or tangentially. In this instance it is e.g. part of the WikiProject Cricket but cricket is only covered in one small paragraph that in and by itself doesn't qualify as C class. To be on the safe side I only (re)rated those Projects that were covered substantially enough in the article to justify a C rating. Cheers, --Wolbo (talk) 13:06, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- I see. The two issues that you raise are independent. An article goes to the next class when it meets class criteria, and that is independent of how much content there is for a specific Wikiproject. There are quirks like not all Wikiproject have all classes, but it's always safe to simply re-rate class across all projects. What you are talking about is importance, and somebody who looks after a specific Wikiproject would be be to rate or re-rate that aspect. Schwede66 17:12, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
The article has now been expanded to meet prose size criterion. Please consider re-evaluating the DYK nomination. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 05:29, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
Hi, would you like to make more specific suggestions as to your required improvements. Eddaido (talk) 20:42, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what you mean by "required improvements". Can you please explain? Schwede66 20:48, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
- "rm stub tag (article is start class); improve ref; restructure" in your edit summary. Eddaido (talk) 21:31, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
- That was documenting was I was doing, as opposed to a suggestion what needs doing. If you are after suggestions, you could:
- introduce section headings,
- add an infobox (and if you do, I'll see whether there's a photo in the public domain)
- expand the article further.
- Does that help? Schwede66 21:49, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
- Yes thanks, that does
- I thought section headings were "deprecated" unless it all became unwieldy which I don't think it does.
- I am happy now the two main things have been introduced: 1. his politics yet his appointment to what I imagine became one of his country's most sensitive WWII appointments (shows how deep were his personal ties to the establishment? that's a question for a biographer) and 2. his association with the very famous in his day F P Walsh.
- The link to the photo of Buckingham Palace Frances Hodgkins and the Pharazyns was deliberately selected. Setting
- It is very noticeable that his article links to people and things all over the world yet almost nothing links back to him. Well, anyway, he stood out from his crowd and made the DNZB and WP!
- Thanks, Eddaido (talk) 22:03, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for December 29
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Otago Central, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ranfurly (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Your GA nomination of Christchurch mayoral election, 2013
[edit]Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Christchurch mayoral election, 2013 you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Mattbuck -- Mattbuck (talk) 15:11, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- OK, having looked at this, I am afraid I do not believe the article meets the GA criteria at this time. It is my opinion that it needs a significant amount of revision. There is no information about the process, and while there is plenty of content about the race, it is rather jumbled. I've left more detailed comments at Talk:Christchurch mayoral election, 2013/GA1. I wish you luck with rewriting this, please let me know if you have any questions you'd like me to answer. -mattbuck (Talk) 16:28, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
Your GA nomination of Christchurch mayoral election, 2013
