List of tallest buildings in Christchurch
[edit]Hi Schwede66, I am from Christchurch too and have added 10 buildings to your list. It is a great article be good to get it finished there are a few more to add and update after all demos have been competed. CHCBOY (talk) 09:01, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
- Good work! What I like to do with new articles is to nominate them at Wikipedia:Did you know, where new content is featured on Wikipedia's homepage for a few hours. There are a few hurdles to overcome before it is eligible:
- The article needs at least 1500 bytes of prose (currently at 800, but all that is required is to write a bit of text around the topic, which is easy to achieve).
- The article needs to be suitably referenced. That'll be the hard part to do. You've added a lot of detail and if you could state your sources, that would be great. I'll do some work on that so that you can see what's required. Don't worry about the formatting of the references; if you just add the source in some form, I can come along and tidy things up. Ideally, there should be at least one reference for each line item, and at least one reference per paragraph of text.
- Does that sound ok? Schwede66 17:35, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, you right. The hard bit is getting the refs for each building. I remember them getting built one by one and I know the name of the builder(s) and sometimes architect(s) for each too. But finding suitable refs for them some from the eighties and earlier will be very tough as no internet back then. But will try. CHCBOY (talk) 20:18, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
- Good on you. Let's not regard this as 'my' article. If anything, it is ours. Let's see whether we can turn it into something great. And if a few things remain unreferenced, well, so be it. If you can remember architects and builders, but all means add it to the article. Schwede66 21:07, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
Hi Schwede, would the List of tallest buildings in Christchurch be ready to go into mainspace? Or is it lacking refs some buildings don't have any. Be nice to have it up what do you reckon. CHCBOY (talk) 02:20, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
References doubling
[edit]He Schwede66, Why are my references doubling themselves in User:Rick570/John Trenwith? I would ge grateful for any advice. Thanks,Rick570 (talk) 03:20, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- Have fixed it for you; see the edit summary. Schwede66 07:59, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

Prod
[edit]Would you please consider replacing your WP:PROD with {{subst:afd|Thomas Hogg (sodomy defendant)}} I'd like to express my opinion, and perhaps others would like to do that too. The entry is in a need of broader discussion I think. Thanks, Poeticbent talk 06:14, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- Done. I agree that there is a need for a broader discussion, and I have indicated that in the AfD. Schwede66 18:39, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- Would the problem be solved by moving the article to Trial of Thomas Hogg? If the man himself is not notable, the bizarre trial must be, right? I have added more citations to the article and a bit about the significance of the trial. Thank you for responding at the DYK nomination page! Surtsicna (talk) 20:27, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- My talk page is not the right spot to have this discussion. Schwede66 18:01, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

Odeon Theater in Tuam Street, Christchurch
[edit]Hi, not sure I'm doing this right, in fact I'm pretty sure I'm not, but I wanted to point out an inaccuracy in your article about the Odeon Theater. It's not a biggie, but you mention it was demolished in September 2012. I've just walked past there and it's still standing in February 2013. Maybe change to "Demolition was started in September 2012"?? Thanks, SafariV8 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 00:47, 5 February 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, you are doing this right. Thanks for prodding me. Demolition of the Odeon was in full swing when I wrote the article, but they just stopped. The front of the building is still standing. I read subsequently that somebody wanted to save that part of the building, but couldn't find the exact reference again. Anyway, I've updated the article. Schwede66 18:45, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

Obit file
[edit]Hi Schwede; I think you are going to have to load the Brittan obit either onto your talk page, user page, or the Joseph Brittan user page. I'm afraid if you don't, the file will be marked for deletion. At least this has been my experience. I don't think it's any problem loading it to any of the three pages I mentioned.Sarnold17 (talk) 17:41, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
- Why do you think it will be deleted? It's old enough to have a valid licence. Schwede66 17:43, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
- That's not the issue. Any image file that is not incorporated into an article is subject to deletion for not being used. All I'm saying is that the image will need to be brought into an article or user page to keep from being deleted for "non-use." Right now the image is not attached to any page.--Sarnold17 (talk) 18:58, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
- What? I've uploaded literally thousands of photos to Commons, with only a fraction of them being used in articles. Does it say something like that in a Commons policy? Schwede66 22:27, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
- Well, I guess I'm wrong. Maybe for commons it is not an issue. I've only recently begun uploading to commons. Maybe that's just for uploading to English wikipedia, or whatever my old way was. Sorry for the mis-information. By the way, for now I am watching your talk page since we are carrying on this conversation. I will eventually remove your page from my watch list when the Joseph Brittan matter becomes somewhat resolved. My only interest in this issue is to help if I can, but otherwise will be happy to have you and Syne resolve the details. I think it's quite nice that your article spurred the interest of a descendant who can offer some genuine assistance in improving it.--Sarnold17 (talk) 23:20, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

I thought you might be commenting on something other than uploading to Commons. I've never uploaded any photos to WP, so don't know my way around in that area. Yes, it's great to have contact with a descendent. Funny thing is that I already had his contact details (given to me by the owners of Linwood House), but I had never got round to getting in touch with him. It's rather useful to have you as an uninvolved person in the mix; I greatly appreciate your input. Schwede66 05:22, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

New Articles
[edit]Hi Schwede66, I am about to start a list for Canberra then maybe a Wellington one. These 2 cities have a lot of buildings. You are welcome to contribute.CHCBOY (talk) 03:20, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
- I'd probably only be interested in Wellington. Will you do that in your user space (if so, let me know the link)? I've got PricewaterhouseCoopers and Forsyth Barr on my to do list, and you are of course most welcome to contribute in turn. Schwede66 07:37, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
Here is the link to the Canberra one I started, its strange that no Aussie has done one on it yet: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:CHCBOY/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Canberra Will work on the Welly one later.CHCBOY (talk) 16:54, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
- I've posted notes on a couple of related pages in Aussie; somebody may lend a hand. Schwede66 18:28, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
I started the article for Wellington and it went up live straight away for some reason (very strange) it not go through the review process here it is:

Flying Blind
[edit]Hi Schwede, I see you have been reading Flying Blind. In regard to removing the citation on the article about Judith Collins, the correct citation is on page 129. My mistake. Offender9000 18:17, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
- No trouble. I suggest that you shouldn't put it back yourself. When I get to that page, I'll put the correct ref into the article. Schwede66 18:22, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
Edit summaries are not the place for snide remarks (see WP:CIVIL - Do's and Dont's). I am working on adding designations to thousands of articles using the list pages already created by others. Completely erroneous errors such as the one you were referring to are often made as the result of misdirected links. A simple look at the "WhatLinksHere" would have made that obvious to you. I catch some and miss some, that happens. Instead of leaving rude comments directed at other editors (see Identifying Incivility), please just fix simple errors like these. You may also want to review WP:DNB. Cacw (talk) 22:11, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- Well, if I managed to offend you with my edit summary, then please accept my apologies. I sometimes work on big repetitive tasks like what you are working on, but I do make the effort of looking at the pages before I his 'save', so that I'm sure that the amendments are actually relevant. Your comments above would imply that you don't do that, and that you expect others to come and tidy up after you. I suggest that's not good enough, and would further suggest that you work a bit slower and be more thorough in what you do. Schwede66 22:40, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
DYK nomination of Mayor of Marlborough
[edit]Hello! Your submission of Mayor of Marlborough at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Yoninah (talk) 19:48, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm aware of the rule of copying things in the lead. The reason I moved the statement up to the lead and did not include it in the body of the article was to satisfy DYK Rule D2 that every paragraph should have at least one citation. You really should add footnotes showing that each former mayor is alive. Best, Yoninah (talk) 21:02, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. I've added a reference (late 2010), but it's inherently a bit difficult to reference that a group of former people is alive. It was rather the lack of obituaries between late 2010 and now that let me conclude that they are all alive. Schwede66 17:25, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

Hundertwasser Toilets
[edit]Hello, and thank you for adding the coordinates to the Hundertwasser Toilets article. However, it appears these coordinates are in fact incorrect. I would fix it myself if I knew how.
Could you please type in "60 Gillies Street, Kawakawa, New Zealand" into maps.google.com. There you will see the Hundertwasser Toilets. Thanks again for your cooperation. - Gilliam (talk) 02:21, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
- I worked off Google Maps and the Google marker is fixed to the adjacent building. I've shifted the coordinates to the correct building now. I use the geolocator tool for this work. Schwede66 02:33, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Mark Lundy
[edit]Hi Schwede66, Could you take a look at the Talk page on Mark Lundy please. I'm having a problem with Nikkimaria and other editors who insist on posting a neutrality tag on it despite all concerns about neutrality being addressed - over and over again. Thanks Offender9000 (talk) 18:36, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
- I hope to find some time over ANZAC Day to look into this. Schwede66 18:44, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
The "problem" has been "fixed" except that the article should be about Lundy, not the Murders. He clearly meets notability under WP:crime. Please see Talk page Offender9000 (talk) 19:06, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
Are you still going to suggest the Lundy murders as a title? I could support that. Offender9000 (talk) 07:31, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
Edward Brenchley Bishop
[edit]Hi Schwede66, I have had a quick look via Ancestry for Edward. Found him on the Electoral role for 1853 living at Somerfield Farm Canterbury Christchurch with Frederick Augustus Bishop. both yeomen living on a freehold estate valued at £50. They are both still living there in 1861 and Charles Wellington Bishop is recorded living at the marketplace Christchurch, a storekeeper with two acres of rural land adjoining the town of Kaiapoi on the Island being part of section 321. In 1881 all three are listed plus a fourth. Charles is an accountant in Cambridge Terrace, Edward at Cramner Terrace out of business. Frederick lives with him and is a wine merchant and in addition there is a Rockford Compart Bishop at Armach St also an acountant. There are other entries showing Edward with several plots under his name. Hope this helps, get in touch if you need more info. Tmol42 (talk) 22:49, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
- Excellent - thank you (I've corrected the title of this item, as there's an 'h' in his middle name; it is his mother's maiden name). Do you have access to family trees that others have created? What I'm keen to learn about is his immediate family. I know that Frederick Augustus was his younger brother. Schwede66 23:02, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
- I have found at least one tree with 5 siblings. Apart from Charles (b.1815 d.1884) and Frederick (b.1818 d.1884), there is a Mary Ann (b.1810), Susannah (b.1812) and Emma Kate (b.1814 d.1888). Tmol42 (talk) 23:13, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
- Further update. Charles W Bishop was married twice. He married Mariane Alport at Islington on 13 May 1843. She died in Apr-Jun 1849 in Bermondsey, London. His second marriage was at St Mary's Islington, London on 13 Apr 1850. At the time Charles was living in Rotherfield St, Islington. Ellen his second wife's maiden name was also Alport. I guess maybe a sister to the late Marion. All three of Charles'children were therefore born with his first wife Mariane.Tmol42 (talk) 00:41, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
- Well, isn't that interesting? Susannah Bishop married Augustus James Alport (1816–1886) on 18 May 1844 at St Mary's Church, Islington, London. If you have a chance to read my draft article (since moved to mainspace) and check over the family connections, that would be great. I'm particularly interested in the parents; I extracted the info from a seriously garbled up website and had to look through the code to find their names. I haven't seen their names anywhere else as yet, so if any of the family list them (possibly with birth and death years), that would be fantastic. Have yet to work the parents into the prose, and will also include your latest info. Thanks a million. The other helpful thing would be to see whether the various Alports were indeed siblings. By the way, have you watchlisted my talk page, or do I need to send you a talkback? Schwede66 08:13, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
- Yes I have your page on my watchlist. I am now a bit on an expert on the Alport family! Father of the three Alports was James Swaine Alport who was born in Stourport, Worcestershire. Married in London to Mary Ann Beck and then both went to live in Halifax Nova Scotia where they had 8 children. Another Alport sibling was Adela. She married a Charles White and remained in London, as did her brother, Sidney. Henry Rose went to live in Kent, Edward Swaine went to Monmouth in Wales, Herbert Edward went to Christchurch, NZ and Percy John ended up in South Africa. What else would you like to know?Tmol42 (talk) 17:57, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
- Quick note on Swaine&Co. In Kents 1823 Original London Directory it is recorded as Swaines Alport & Co 1 Holburn Br. (today known as Holborn Viaduct)Tmol42 (talk) 00:24, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

- Argyles Bishop, (b.1764) Kent. He was a widower by the time he married Mary Anne Brenchley (b. 12 July 1781) Sittingbourne Kent, on 18 May 1809 at Sittingbourne. Mary Ann's father was Edward Brenchley and her mother was Mary? Found one other reference to Argyles Bishop and a distillers business here which you might find interesting. Do you need any more info on the Alport parents' dates? Tmol42 (talk) 22:28, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- After a 'short break', I'm now on my way to completing this article. @Tmol42:, thanks for your help so far. I can't see a single reference to E. B. Bishop having ever been married. Is that how you see it, too? Schwede66 19:41, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
- Agree, there is no genealogical evidence of him ever being married. Also the cemetary monument for EBB also includes commemorations for his sister, his brother and his brother's second(?) wife. Tmol42 (talk) 11:41, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

Aotearoa
[edit]Hi Schwede, I have improved the Aotearoa article by adding more info re Sir George Grey, and also removed the info you added. I think it is disproportionate to give the opinion of a hobby historian just because he disputes the works of some pretty important players in New Zealand history. Saying they created a "myth" is a bit over the top too. Moriori (talk) 02:52, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
Establishment
[edit]Hello Schwede, When I was browsing through a website I accidently found this a review of the Establishment project this can be seen here: http://www.warrenandmahoney.com/en/portfolio/the-establishment-apartments/ So I was wrong on this building height, I don't remember it being 11 levels so will put it back into the list which will bring the total to 50 (A good round figure). At least that has been corrected as it deserves to be in now. CHCBOY (talk) 15:08, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

Edits
[edit]Yes, well, it is all very different when the boot is on the other foot. Quite all right for you to go around vandalising my edits but if someone does that to your edits then all hell breaks loose and I am threatened to be reported etc etc. What is sauce for the gander is sauce for the goose. If an item on Wiki is wrong then fair enough go ahead and correct it but don’t go deleting other people’s work just because it does not meet your personal standards or it on a topic that you know nothing about. Leave well alone. In any case my edit was referenced if you had just bothered to look instead of getting up on your high horse.
- Please post your issue on the talk page of the relevant article. It's good to see that you are finally prepared to enter into some discussion. Schwede66 04:52, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
