User talk:Scbr
it has come to my attention that a Wikipedia user/moderator (not sure?) by the name of Realkyhick has deleted the entry I made. Here is the letter I wrote him. ________
Realkyhick
I recently started a page that dealt with the sport of Mixed Martial Arts and the web. You instantly tagged it and within hours, before I could even get home to try and address some of the things you mentioned, you deleted it. Why? From the little time I had, one of the issues was historical significance. I did try to explain this but again, you deleted the pages without any thought or consideration. I find this puzzling especially in light that YOU have a Wikipedia page. What is your important historical significance, other than helping run a bible web site in Birmingham. You certainly didn't seem to quick to delete your own page. I would ask who made you God, judge and juror?
I can understand rules and procedures. It was my understanding though that Wikipedia is supposed to be 'about the people', with contributions from the people. When you give me less than 5 hours to make adjustments or changes, then rip out out my contribution, it ruins the experience. It makes me feel like this site is run by a bunch of Nazi like dictators.
Any comments or reasons for your actions would be appreciated.
- Here's your response...
- First of all, NEVER, EVER put a speedy delete tag, or anything else at all, on another user's USER PAGE. It is considered an act of vandalism and will result in your being blocked from posting anything at all on Wikipedia. It appears that you do not know the difference between a user page and an article. The page which you say I have is nothing more than that, and you have one too that is not subject to any action (unless you post something totally over the top like pornography, threats to others, etc.). You just posted on yours, as a matter of fact. On my user page, I can post my interests (which, by the way, doesn't involve any "Bible of God" web site in Birmingham), and you can post yours on your user page, but not as an article about a subject.
- Now to the main point: Although I tagged your article (once) for speedy deletion, that is all that I did - mark it to bring it to the attention of Wikipedia administrators, who must then agree that the article should be deleted, and then they do so. I am not an administrator, so I don't actually pull the trigger. I just flag the article. It takes at least two people in this process to do this. Take note also that your other page, where you created an article with your user name as the title, was tagged by a totally separate editor - I never even saw the Scbr page.
- The reason your articles were deleted were because the subject(s) did not meet Wikipedia standards of notability - they weren't important enough to merit an article. There is no record of a "Stone cold billy ray" (which I suspect is you, given your user name). Your article appeared to be nothing more than something promoting you or a web site, and had nothing of any "historical significance" whatsoever, nor did it have any prospect of having historical significance. It met the criteria for speedy deletion, pure and simple. Wikipedia is not "about the people," as you assert. It is an encyclopedia, and it is not a place where people can post articles willy-nilly about any subject, or promote themselves or their web sites or companies. In fact, there are a lot of things that Wikipedia is not (see WP:NOT). On the other hand, if you want to post things about "Stone cold billy ray" on your user page, you can. It won't be classified as an article, but it will still be there.
- Ranting and raving about "Nazi like dictators" and such will only put you on the bad side of administrators and other users, which will make you much more subject to being temporarily or permanently blocked. As for who made me God, judge and juror, just about any user who has been on Wikipedia more than a week or so qualifies as such. There are quite a few of us who monitor newly-created articles or recent changes in existing articles, to make sure that anything that doesn't abide by Wikipedia rules doesn't stay around very long. If I hadn't been the one that tagged your page, someone else would have been very close behind me to do so. That's the way it works around here.
A tag has been placed on Stone cold billy ray, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because it is an article about a certain website, blog, forum, or other web content that does not assert the importance or significance of that web location. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 7 under Articles, as well as notability guidelines for websites. Please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material, please affix the template {{hangon}}
to the page, and put a note on Talk:Stone cold billy ray. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Thanks. Realkyhick 16:30, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
