Just some comments from an organic chemist writing students an exam:
"The hydrolysis reaction of the carboxyl ester leads to the formation of an acyl-enzyme and free choline." This forms a covalent bond to the serine residue I presume? This is shown in the image but not explained in the text.
"Moreover, the triad is of opposite handedness to that of other proteases." What do you mean by this? Are they D-amino acids? I presume not and that the active site has some chiral feature, but it is unclear and I am too ignorant of biochemistry.
