Re South Bound Brook, New Jersey

[edit]

I can assure you that I am no fan of "pay to play". I have worked on behalf of passage of an ordinance where I live in Northern New Jersey and I believe that it should be applied broadly. Regardless, the contributions made by the borough attorney in South Bound Brook, New Jersey would appear to be in full compliance with relevant laws. The fact that he has made contributions may well be true, but the way it has been added to the article makes it appear that this is a quid pro quo, and no source to support that has been provided. I do not believe that the contributions are a topic worthy of encyclopedic inclusion and the fact that the sources added to the article come directly from a partisan source only raises further questions. While I believe that there is no story here, I could be convinced to change my position if the claims were supported from reliable and verifiable independent sources, such as newspaper articles that discuss the issue and would allow a reader to make a more informed conclusion on the matter. Without these sources, I believe that the material does not belong in the article. Alansohn (talk) 20:53, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am familiar with these forms submitted to NJ ELEC and I have no reason to doubt that they are genuine. The issue that I have is that this material has been placed in the article under the banner "Political corruption" and no reliable and verifiable independent sources have been provided to support a charge of corruption. The addition of an independent source from a published newspaper would make it possible (if at can be done at all) to put the allegations in some sort of context. Other than that it just comes off to me as a disinterested observer to have a smarmy feel to it and does not belong in this encyclopedia. P.S. Feel free to reply here and I will try to monitor this talk page so that we can keep the discussion in one place. Alansohn (talk) 21:00, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How do you feel about Forrest implementing this:

"Forrest also instituted new ethics rules involving political activity, including forbidding any PVSC employee from serving as a campaign treasurer on any political campaign. The new rules also forbid any political activity at the commission, which had not been specifically prohibited before."

South Bound Brook should do the same, imo.
