Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Nativism in Karnataka

[edit]

Nativism in Karnataka kickoff begins! SavetheSouthofIndia (talk) 02:11, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

And now, so does Anti-North Indian sentiment

A tag has been placed on Category:American people of North Indian descent indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 08:45, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would need your help in that. I am a little new to Wikipedia. :)

Hello, SavetheSouthofIndia,
Message received on my User talk page. I think there is some confusion here and that you didn't read this notice. This category is not going to be deleted because it is unworthy or isn't appropriate for some reason. It is simply tagged for deletion because it is an empty category (WP:C1). Unless it falls within a very narrow range of exceptions (i.e. Categories being discussed at WP:CFD, disambiguation categories, categories that are redirects, categories that are part of a WikiProject that are occasionally empty, etc.), empty categories are deleted on Wikipedia no matter what the subject of the category is. On the plus side, if a category that was deleted for simply being empty is ever needed again in the future and will no longer be empty, it can easily be restored by making a request at WP:REFUND or to the admin who deleted the category.
On the other hand, if a category is nominated for a CFD discussion and is deleted, it can not be restored. And, I'll just let you know, that categories involving descent can be highly contested. You can read more about it at Wikipedia:Categorizing articles about people#Ethnicity and race.
But in this case, it's just a matter of the category being empty. I encourage you to look at our existing categories at Category:American people of Indian descent and see if there is already a category that covers this area. I hope this addresses your concerns.
