ARMED FORCES IN POST 9/11 SCENARIO 1. 9/11 events threatened the world security scenario in a real big new way. 2. Intelligence networks and the organizational structure of world armed forces proved insufficient and incapable to meet the new threats. 3. Possible dimensions and forms of future threats:- a. Planted saboteurs in important institutions. b. Penetration and /or plantation in command elements of armed forces and top government slots. c. Effective disruption of command and communication networks. d. Paralyzing transportation means and arrangements. e. Heightened public unrest resulting in turmoil through multidimensional and multidirectional attacks in areas of public utilities/services. f. Collapse of financial institutions. g. Erosion and meltdown of the basic foundations of national security/survival structure (s). h. Seizure or immobilization of most vital national security features and institutions. i. Targeting and immobilizing a particular group that is of vital importance in the day to day affairs of a country. j. Incapacitating youth of nations. k. Disorientating the intelligentsias of a country. l. Suitable combinations of above possibilities for optimum and quick results. 4. Likely roles of intelligence organizations in the future. a. Keep the enemy forces embroiled in own problems by working on various possibilities of para 3 ante. b. Make it difficult for the enemy agencies to operate in home and own country. c. Organize clandestine intelligence network in own institutions to see to it that enemy forces are not able to penetrate. d. Organize effective watch on own command and top leaders to see to it that they do not fall prey to enemy agencies. e. Undertake and follow population friendly maneuvers. f. Create false avenues for enemy agencies operations. 5. Roles of armed forces in future conflicts. 6. Organizational parameters to meet the future threats. 7. Preventive and fighting it out strategies.
