Diacritics and dates
[edit]I reverted some of your edits on Puente de España as diacritics is not needed in Wikipedia per WP:Diacritics. We also do not use diacritics in the Philippines, so please stop modifying words into words with diacritics. Dates are generally notated (Month day, year format, e.g., July 3, 2001) in the Philippines, so please stop changing dates into the (day month year format, e.g., 3 July 2001) as both formats are accepted in Wikipedia per MOS:DATE. So please stop wasting your time and other people's time by changing the date formats and words into words-with-diacritics.
Also, 'downriver' and 'lookout' are the accepted spellings of those words. Please check your dictionary first before making such changes. Thanks. - Briarfallen (talk) 23:13, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- As the Philippines is not an Anglophone, rather one where US English is taught as a foreign language, I was simply writing in correct English, i.e. that of England, the country where English originates. Furthermore, the "ñ" IS used in the Philippines as places in the archipelago are generally in Spanish.
Yes, but this is Wikipedia. We follow Wikipedia rules. There is no preference whether you use British or American English. Please, it is not nice to condescend over the other. Also, "ñ" is also a letter of the Filipino alphabet, a consonant. It is not a modified letter. Diacritics over vowels are mainly used for accents, and it is seldom (almost not) used in the Philippines (not even in common names). Only misguided Filipinos who are envious of other languages prefers using them (or maybe, for some, egotistical purposes). - Briarfallen (talk) 15:34, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
Spelling bias and UK bias
[edit]Following on from above, please also refrain from editing pages into UK spelling (specifically see the MOS:ENGVAR policy). Edits like [1] also indicate an overly high focus on the UK. Nobody cares this much about the UK; and it's supposed to be USA that has a large ego! If you can, please also take the time to flick through the rest of the Manual of Style, or just the Simplified MOS. —WOFall (talk) 03:11, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
Whether anyone cares or not about the United Kingdom is inconsequential, what counts is correct orthography from the Mother Country of the language, just like Spain for Spanish, France for French and Portugal for Portuguese, these also being global languages. By the way, I deduce you may be a Filipino, hence certainly not a native Anglophone at all. The "ñ" is used there: Parañaque for one!
