Bardo Thodol/COI
[edit]I deleted the link/reference book that you added earlier to the Bardo Thodol article. Based on your user name, and the fact that your account has primarily been used to link to pages and add mention of this book, I'm wondering if you are familiar with Wikipedia's Conflict of Interest policy. It's particularly important to note that edits that have the appearance of promoting or linking to works that you have a personal interest in are subject to a lot of scrutiny on Wikipedia to prevent abuse by advertisers and other promoters. If you are the author of the book that you are referencing, and you think there is a case to be made that it is a significant and notable source about this topic, it would be in your best interest to declare that unambiguously on your user page to make sure you don't run afoul of the COI guidelines. My concern with the book that you linked is that it does not appear to have any indication of its notability; the other books in the list are generally 1) by well-known or otherwise notable authors or translators, 2) a notable academic or popular translation, or 3) have their relevance testified by the fact that a major publisher- often one that specializes in this field- published the book. The book that you linked was very recently published, and was apparently published through a self-publishing service. Something like that is generally going to be regarded as promotional linking, unless there are unusual circumstances that I'm unaware of. --Clay Collier (talk) 23:38, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
