Regarding your post at Wikipedia:Reference desk/Humanities

[edit]

There's a sign at the top of the page saying "We don't answer requests for opinions, predictions or debate." Your question will likely be removed shortly. Also, your question was loaded with your own opinion on the matter, which would indicate you've already arrived at your own answer (right or wrong). Are we still living in a world dominated by the western civilization?

[edit]

You asked this at the Reference Desk... and (quite properly) the question was closed as seeking opinions and not references. However, I am willing to give you my opinion:

My answer is a qualified "sort of". Except for those living in very remote places, most of the world is certainly heavily influenced by western civilization. However, we also need to realize that western civilization isn't what it used to be... while western civilization has spread around the globe and greatly influenced other civilizations, the flow of influence has not been in just one direction. Western civilization has itself been greatly influenced by its contact with non-western civilizations.

So... one could argue that we are seeing the slow emergence of a shared "global" civilization... one which is a meshing and melding of multiple traditions and civilizations... all borrowing from each other.

That's my two cents, at least. Blueboar (talk) 14:01, 27 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
