Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, SGK02, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Nick Keig, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Hello Drm310, thank you.
Sorry I am new to Wikipedia and am not entirely sure how this all works. I have tried my best to write in a neutral way, purely stating facts that are backed up with cited sources. Is there anything I should do to this article now? I assume it will be moderated before being indexed? If so I am happy to make any changes deemed necessary.
This account isn't shared and will not receive copensation.
Thank you very much? SGK02 (talk) 22:24, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As you appear to be related to Nick Keig, please ensure you add a conflict of Interest template to your userpage. See WP:COI. Note: I have deleted detailed content about the ancient photography studio from your article as it is not relevant to the topic in hand. At least, not in the way you wrote it. The section on 'Yacht Racing' is very unclear and needs some explanation. Remember, this is an encyclopaedia and random facts and citations are not wanted; a coherent story is. SGK02 please could you clarify your connection to articles such as Keigs Photography and Nick Keig? Thank you. -Kj cheetham (talk) 20:38, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, SGK02. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Kj cheetham (talk) 16:03, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon

Hello SGK02. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Vincent Caldwell, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:SGK02. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=SGK02|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Wikishovel (talk) 10:41, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I am not receiving any compensation for these edits, I am doing it off of my own accord. If there are any edits that should be made, I am happy to make any. I tried not to write in a subjective manner, and any personal comments I directly quoted from sources with references. Thank you SGK02 (talk) 15:43, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Vincent Caldwell, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Your account has been blocked indefinitely for advertising or promotion and violating the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use. This is because you have been making promotional edits to topics in which you have a financial stake, yet you have failed to adhere to the mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a form of conflict of interest (COI) editing which involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is strictly prohibited. Using this site for advertising or promotion is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia.

If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, please read our guide to appealing blocks to understand more about unblock requests, and then add the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the end of your user talk page. For that request to be considered, you must:

  • Confirm that you have read and understand the Terms of Use and paid editing disclosure requirements.
  • State clearly how you are being compensated for your edits, and describe any affiliation or conflict of interest you might have with the subjects you have written about.
  • Describe how you intend to edit such topics in the future.

This is untrue, I have received no financial reward for any of my edits SGK02 (talk) 19:24, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have any relationship with any of the people or companies that are the subjects of the articles you've created?--Bbb23 (talk) 19:27, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have no personal relationship with Vincent Caldwell, I have heard of him through other people. If you look at all of my edits and articles, it’s all people and history and geography of the Isle of Man. I’m practising and I enjoy the research in my spare time.
I just started researching a boating disaster which happened on the Isle of Man 150 years ago called the Brig "Lily" Disaster, which I obviously would have no relations or personal interests in…
I know things have been posted saying I have a personal relation or being paid for it etc., but if someone could tell me specifically what I’m saying that’s wrong I’m happy to remove or re word things. SGK02 (talk) 19:42, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In Keigs Photography you mention "S.R. Keig Ltd". Your username just happens to be the initials of that company? Kind of hard to believe, isn't it?.--Bbb23 (talk) 19:51, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
