Lead Section Size

The lead section of a Wikipedia article is the section before the first heading. The table of contents, if displayed, generally appears between the lead section and the first subheading.

Rule of thumb: If a topic deserves a heading or subheading, then it deserves short mention in the lead.

The lead section should contain up to four paragraphs, depending on the length of the article, and should provide a preview of the main points the article will make, summarizing the primary reasons the subject matter is interesting or notable. The lead should be capable of standing alone as a concise overview of the article, should be written in a clear and accessible style, should be carefully sourced like the rest of the text, and should encourage the reader to want to read more. The following table has some general guidelines for the length of the lead section:

< 15,000 characters medium size > 30,000 characters
one or two paragraphs   two or three paragraphs   three or four paragraphs

Iraqi election articles

[edit]

Hello Sayegh. Thanks for your recent contributions to Iraqi election articles. A quick couple of queries:

  • When you say "the election was completed on 9 May 1928", do you mean that is the day elections were held, or the final day of elections held over several days? The term "completed" suggests it was the last day of elections.
  • For the 1925 Iraqi parliamentary election, are the seat change figures compared to the 1924 Iraqi Constituent Assembly election? I'm not sure how this works if the parties were only formed after the 1925 elections?

Cheers, Number 57 10:14, 11 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Number 57, Thank you for inquiries. I added more details about the 1924 election process and political parties.
Regarding the 1928 election, 9 May 1928 was the final day of elections held over several days.
Great, thanks! Number 57 14:50, 11 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

Hello, SAYEGH. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Iraqi Constitutional Assembly election".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

First women in the Iraqi parliament

[edit]

Hello Sayegh. I am trying to identify the first women MPs in Iraq (for a list I am compiling of all the first women MPs in different countries). Based on a report from the Inter-Parliamentary Union (which is wrong for several countries), the first women (16 in total) were elected in 1980. Do you know if this is true, and if so, is there anywhere I can find their names? Cheers, Number 57 15:59, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Number 57, Only males were allowed to run for the Iraqi Parliament during the monarchical period (1921-1985). Women were allowed to run for the first time in 1980, and some of them were elected. I think your information is accurate; but probably it will be hard to find their names. Cheers --SAYEGH (talk) 17:02, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. If you do ever come across a source with their names, please do let me know. Cheers, Number 57 19:53, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sure! will do. Cheers, --SAYEGH (talk) 21:17, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
