{{helpme-helped}I to exercise my right to vanish. I want my entire account to be deleted. How may I go around doing this? The reference articles were long, winding, and vague at beast. Thanks.

You cannot delete an article, as it is legally and technically impossible. The best option is to have all the subpages deleted, and abandon it. You can also get a rename, although that may not help a lot. fetch·comms 22:52, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You may simply blank your talk page and place {{retired}} on it. If you really want to totally disappear, you should ask at WP:BN for a bureaucrat to rename you to a generic username. Sorry to see you go. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:54, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Accounts on Wikipedia aren't ever deleted; to excercise your right to vanish, simply stop editing. If you choose to do this, it is recommended that you put {{retired}} on your user page. If there are any of your user subpages that you want deleted, just add {{db-u1}} to them. Your user talk page cannot be deleted in this manner, but you are able to simply blank the page. Robert Skyhawk (T C B) 22:57, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you still have questions, there is a new contributor's help page, or you can write {{helpme}} below this message along with a question and someone will be along to answer it shortly. You may also find the following pages useful for a general introduction to Wikipedia.

I hope you enjoy editing Wikipedia! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Norton Internet Security in Community forum

[edit]

This post might be of interest to you: http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&message.id=65030#M65030

It's about a faulty 16.7 patch released to Norton users. --Tyw7  (Talk • Contributions) 21:13, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Glad I'm not using Norton Internet Security right now. Anyways, the sources fails WP:RS; it was reported by users in a forum. By the way, wasn't your username NIS something, not "Wikipedian"? TechOutsider (talkcontribs) 22:48, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
A Symantec admin asked me to change the username since it is NIS is the short form of Norton Internet Security. Therefore, I told him, I would change my nick on Norton community forum to Wikipedian. :-).
Just make sure they don't associate the banned user "Tech0utsider" on their forums with you. TechOutsider (talkcontribs) 02:02, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}} Does WP:OR apply when omitting information? TechOutsider (talkcontribs) 21:28, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi TechOutsider, good question. I'm not sure - could you give an example? Also, if you want, you could post your query on the No Original Research Noticeboard, which is watched by editors who have plenty of experience in this area. PhilKnight (talk) 17:10, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Free upgrade

[edit]

Can you please include the information about free upgrade to the latest Norton products in the articles of the Norton products? And why did you remove this information from the Norton Internet Security article? Tyw7  (Talk • Contributions) 00:49, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the information is still present: "Existing users of the 2006, 2007, or 2008 versions can upgrade to the latest 2009 version without buying a new subscription. Upgrading will preserve the number of days left on a user's subscription." TechOutsider (talkcontribs) 02:21, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oops. I guess the wording has moved places so I missed it. No hard feelings. :-) --Tyw7  (Talk • Contributions) 15:24, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. TechOutsider (talkcontribs) 15:26, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Best Selling music artist

[edit]

I was wondering if you could bring your input onto this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:List_of_best-selling_music_artists#elvis_and_beatles_sales_are_inflated_too . One editor changed record sales for one artist and didnt do it for otheres that are in the same boat as he. Its leading to harsh debates. Can you please lend a hand to what you believe? ITalkTheTruth (talk) 07:30, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I wish I could be of further help. However, I do not wish to be engaged in such a heated discussion. I also know little about album sales, how they work, who reports them, and the reliability of who reports them. Sorry. TechOutsider (talkcontribs) 14:44, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WikiBreak Enforcement

{{helpme}}

Could someone explain to me the syntax of the script? Like where to put what? My monobook.js is located here. TechOutsider (talkcontribs) 14:50, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What script are you referring to? You've already put the Wikibreak template on your user page and user talk page. That's all you have to do to announce that you're talking a wikibreak. --Mysdaao talk 15:03, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you go to Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts/WikiBreak Enforcer you'll see the instructions for installing the script there. Essentially, all you have to do is copy that gray box into your monobook.js, save the page, then reload and be on your way. Make sure to change the date. As Mysdaao says, though, you don't need it if you trust yourself! :D ~ Amory (usertalkcontribs) 15:46, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. - Unforgiven24 Talk|Contribs 20:14, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is my monobook part of my user space? TechOutsider (talkcontribs) 20:15, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but you didn't edit it. You edited Editing_User:TechOutsider/monobook.js, which created an article in the articlespace, not User:TechOutsider/monobook.js, which is your actual monobook file. ~ Amory (usertalkcontribs) 20:32, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi from Jamshud

[edit]

Hi Tech, thank you for your message. I guess I have taken a long "wikibreak" myself so I haven't been able to edit articles much recently. I think I have managed to dig up some info regarding older versions of Kaspersky products on a Russian resource which may take me a while to translate/collect, which we could probably use on the Kaspersky Internet Security article if you are interested in continuing it's development. Thanks for your apology and likewise I think my behaviour fell short of what should be expected of a reasonable adult. Hopefully we can work together to improve wikipedia now :) Jamshud (talk) 20:55, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I happened to stumble past my wikipedia talk page today, and its good to see you back :). 169.157.141.83 (talk) 21:07, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Norton Internet Security article update

Two new sections was added to the Norton Internet Security article (Netbook edition) and media. In addition, a new version (NIS2010) has been released. By the way, when are you comming back? --Tyw7  (Talk • Contributions) 21:30, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Microsoft Security Essentials

[edit]

Hi! I see you're on wikibreak. I passed Microsoft Security Essentials as a good article with some small copyedits. Take a look at the review for some tips. Otherwise good work. Hope to see you around soon :) Arsenikk (talk) 23:44, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Extremely useful contribution to WP - the above, by you. I haven't had a chance to comment - yet. But will soon. --Ludvikus (talk) 20:40, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

TechOutsider, when you come back from your wikibreak, could you please review again the lead section of the New World Order (conspiracy theory) article to see confirm that all the minor issues you raised have been resolved? --Loremaster (talk) 21:54, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:38, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:MSE Threat Alert.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:MSE Threat Alert.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
