Elen

[edit]

At Ryu's request so as not to crowd the tracking function of the page, I am moving my responses to Elen (and probably to other redirects addressed as they come later) here:

  • Wing Chun dummy: Looks like AlexF got it A26, anyway my guess is I had directed this to Wing_Chun#Wooden_dummy. For someone who doesn't want to mess around with #s or want to specify 'wooden' this is the simplest reference for someone who wishes to link to this in a discussion. Simply linking to 'Wing Chun' would not be specific enough. This really should be restored, it's the name of a specific object used in martial arts, and it's possible for people besides Wing Chun practitioners to use them. Bruce Lee kept using it even after branching out.
You didn't link it to Wing Chun anything, just to the article. There is no need to have a redirect for this, it is too specific--Elen of the Roads (talk) 10:03, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Developmental forensics: Most likely someone created a red link for this, so I redirected it to forensics because before it would ever get its own article it would get a subcategory on Forensics. I guess that's fine, but the term does exist, it's mentioned here for example. Even if it hasn't been brought up, forensics is what someone should be reading, it's the closest match for the real thing.
You are having language problems here. "Forensic" means used in or related to a court of law. Forensic science is the use of science and scientific techniques in the investigation of crime. However forensic also means related to public debate or rhetoric, and developmental forensics relates to this usage, not criminalistics.--Elen of the Roads (talk) 10:03, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dragon Door (and Publications): In regards to both DD things, why do you want them deleted? This is a real company. If the men who own the company are notable then if it doesn't get its own article it should reflect to one or the other. I know from experience that Tsatsouline is more of a 'face' than Cane, that's why it goes there. Deleting it doesn't make sense
Should be a redlink or an article, not a redirect. Redirects are not valid substitutions for articles. --Elen of the Roads (talk) 10:03, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Erminitrude: Agreed, I spelled that wrong by accident and didn't notice, she is a char in the movie, forgot to check the original series for her too.
  • Day of Saturn: Agreed, not sure why I made that.
  • Social Contextualism: This is also correct, I'm very confused why I made this in 06, possibly I was working on multiple subjects/people at once and mixed them up.
  • Wolf's Law: Great idea, makes sense, I hadn't heard of or thought of a law practise, good instinct
Basic ability to use the wikipedia search engine. I put Wolf Law in. This is why you need to get all you r redirects checked out.Elen of the Roads (talk) 12:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Pullups: Eh... yes but they're also an exercise. Disambig perhaps, but it shouldn'y just go to diapers.
Shouldn't just go to the exercise either Elen of the Roads (talk) 12:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Pullup bar: Hm, actually if anything we should find a more neutral name for chin-up bar, it doesn't have one specific name really. It is more broadly used for varieties of pulling and not just chin-ups so I think pull works better.
Or you could just use a redirect that goes to the correct place Elen of the Roads (talk) 12:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Muscle-up: I'm not familiar with this, but I guess I could see, you mean to lift anything in whatever means possible?
No, to muscle up or muscle-up also means to increase the size or strength of one's muscles generally. Elen of the Roads (talk) 12:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rasslor: Sorry but I heavily disagree, how exactly do you mention vagueness? He was the star of an entire episode of Dial M for Monkey, it was an awesome classic comics reference and had a famous voice actor do the role. I would contest this deletion
Maybe he did, but that article is not about Rasslor, it only mentions him in one pretty throwaway sentence "A villain called Rasslor...." or some such. He should be a redlink not a redirect. Elen of the Roads (talk) 12:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Larva (Vampire Princess Miyu): Would you care to explain one? The reason individual characters have individual articles is because they may potentially use a Category in which case, you don't want the category to cover the entire anime (or list of characters for an anime) but more specifically, the name of the character in question
It is an utterly stupid redirect. Why the hell would I type "Larva(Vampire Princess Miyu)" in the box unless I already knew the Wikipedia naming conventions, and thought there was likely to be a page with that precise name, symbols and all. Remember, redirects in en.wikipedia are terms that English speaking Wikipedians are likely to search on. Elen of the Roads (talk) 12:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Celestial Order: If you check the history, a bot directed it there, I originally directed it to "Heart of the Universe". Now, if you check the history of that, it was merged into the "The End" article, but prior to that here you can clearly see that the Celestial Order IS prominently mentioned on the page. It seems whoever merged it removed all mention of it though, so that's a problem that will need to be addressed. That said, I was not aware of other uses, so feel free to change it into a disambig for the other uses, and then we can also list the Heart of the Universe in The End on the disambig as well
Your lack of depth of the use of the English language and the history of religion in Europe is letting you down in this particular case, but there is a general principle to be observed. If you want to redirect something to a manga/anime, it would appear that you are more likely to be wrong than right unless you are redirecting a subset of the Japanese words in the title (eg Gundam to Gundam Wing). If you are attempting to redirect an English phrase, it almost certainly has another meaning that you may be unaware of.Elen of the Roads (talk) 12:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Power/space/mind/reality/time/ego gem: In response to your criticizing redirecting all the gems: why? When is 'excessive' policy? These gems are definitely referred to by name on an ongoing basis in the comics and in the game adaptations. If you know any other gems by that name that'd be fine. But if someone wants to write "Adam Warlock has the Time gem" what's the problem?
He could write "Adam Warlock has the [[Infinity gems|Time gem]]. That's what's wrong.Elen of the Roads (talk) 12:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • God War: If you know some other things, please suggest them, I'll create a disambiguation page
Why? Elen of the Roads (talk) 12:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ultimate Thanos: Explain how this is vague? All the incarnations of Marvel heroes in the 'Ultimate' universe are referred to as 'Ultimate' + their name, what do you need clarified
Should be a redlink, not a redirect Elen of the Roads (talk) 12:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Great Powers of the Universe: Why not? Is anything else consistantly referred to by this title
See above under Celestial Order Elen of the Roads (talk) 12:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Green Beacon: There was a parody of the Green Lantern known as 'Beacon'. Naturally I can't redirect 'Beacon' there, so that is an easy way to refer to the parody. If you check the version that existed when I made the redirect here in the 'Green Lantern parodies/references' section 4th main bullet, Big Bang Comics
Well, it isn't there now. It doesn't need a redirect. The redirect isn't directing to an article that says anything about the subject. Elen of the Roads (talk) 12:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Black Lighthouse: I can't explain it at the moment, it sounds like something I thought was a real reference, maybe it was an SNL gag about it or something
  • Wonder Lady: In this case Lady and Woman are sorta synonymous so maybe I was trying to be helpful? Perhaps a foreign person new to the language trying to familiarize with icons.
Not convinced, but if you find some other people that agree with you.....Elen of the Roads (talk) 12:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ama (Avurveda): Agreed, I had originally named the article wrong so I moved it. That said, Y and V are letters that could mixed up
  • Kei Chitose/Chitose Kei: Why not, exactly? The name doesn't show up anywhere else on Wikipedia except Street Fighter: Sakura Ganbaru! where she gets an entry. Come to think of it, that's a better redirect so I just updated it now, but this is a real fictional character so there's no reason to delete her. Please try to search out other sources of information.
Should be a redlink not a redirect. Elen of the Roads (talk) 12:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is being used beyond tracking as a place for mods like BK to review deletion requests so I think it's good to hear from both parties. Tyciol (talk) 07:43, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

See responses above. I am beginning to doubt your willingness to change your ways, you know. Elen of the Roads (talk) 10:03, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
