Notes on red links
[edit]The red links here are ones deleted, I am able to see who deleted them and when, but not their original direction. As such, I'll enter them into the search so as to remember where I probably had them pointed (though in some cases it might be a guess since I didn't memorize them at the time).
Anyway, would anyone mind if the red links were removed into a separate section? Having successfully deleted them, it makes your job of targetting my undeleted articles easier for you. Similarly, I could edit such a section explaining their original purpose with possible appeals for recreation if I am able to convince you all of the notability and plausibility of the created redirect. Just looking at the top, 2071 CE (common era I presume) is a year in the future which an anime is set, since I couldn't find any other references to that year, it seems plausible that people typing in that year would be referring to that fiction. Naturally 62 years from now that could change because the year would have its own article.
I also think the idea of marking the less obvious ones with 'bad' and initials and reasons would be good, if there's no objection I could chime in before it actually gets marked for a chance to explain some of the ones I maintain an opinion that they retain some value (admittedly, I'm not going to try to defend the Portmanteaus).
Rather than outright deleting red links as proposed, moving them would be much more useful especially in the case of names, because even though I was incorrect in redirecting them to works of fiction in some cases, they could potentially become articles about the person which could mention links to all their fictional works as well as making family name and first name pages into disambiguation pages after locating all people who share said name who currently have Wikipedia articles, naturally said disambigs could be expanded as editors create new articles about people with such a name in the future. - I don't agree with your proposal to stop the deletion process and I do mind if the red links are moved into a separate section. If you want to copy some of the info here into your own user space, for your own records, that is not a problem. In response to what you said above, 2071 CE is such an obvious candidate for deletion that your thinking seems wide of the mark. It used to redirect to Sky Girls. - I'd be glad to host the red links on my userspace, in that case, thanks. It would just be a nice courteousy to dump them on the talk page or something like that when it's done to avoid the extra work of combing the histories. I thought it redirected to Sky Girls since that's a key year relevant to that series, and not to any other series that I am aware of. Tyciol (talk) 07:30, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- I'm still here ... I worked on the original page earlier, and NuclearWarfare deleted most of them ... but now the action seems to have moved over here. Can I still be helpful? It looks like this page has been mostly run through. I thought the other page was a bit more useful because redirects with similar meanings seemed to be mostly grouped together ... e.g. at one point there were 20 in a row that are just characters in an anime series. -- Soap Talk/Contributions 22:06, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
- Use whichever list you prefer. 'Redir1' is in alphabetical order, while the other one User:Ryulong/Sandbox/Redirects must have been in order of creation time. I think it's reasonable for an admin to delete any one of these redirects as WP:CSD#R3 if at least one other person (who knows the usage of redirects) has checked it out and recommends that action. - Okay. Although I think having two pages will lead to some duplication of efforts, since people will come upon the same redirects twice. -- Soap Talk/Contributions 01:38, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
