User talk:RyanBEdwards
Dear user,
I'm not entirely sure what to tell you in this instance. Not being a lawyer myself particularly hinders the process. I'm asking other editors for their input into this issue, but my first inclination off the bat is to tell you that the company must be willing to allow content from their website to be copied under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License -- basically speaking, that anyone else may copy, modify, distribute, and sell copies of the text under certain conditions. Most business entities are not willing to do this, so we automatically assume that they would tell us "no" if we asked, unless their web page says otherwise. This is why one of the "quick fail" criteria for new articles (including the one you submitted) is the article containing text copied from another website.
When I get a consensus from other users on the issue, I'll give you an update. Thanks, Matt (talk) 06:37, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
- Dear user,
- If your organization is willing to make the text of your website available under the GFDL, then send an email to the Wikipedia Open-Source Ticket Request System stating as such, and be sure to include a link to the page [1]. Be sure to read up on WP:COPYREQ for more information.
- Aside from this, we feel that there are other issues with this page that copyright releasing alone would not resolve. For example, we feel that the WP:COI, WP:CORP, and WP:SPAM policies are being violated. Plain and simple, we do not want Wikipedia to be an advertising platform for companies that feel they need it.
- If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks, Matt (talk) 07:40, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
