Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Download.com. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Dori ☾Talk ☯ Contribs☽ 09:09, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
FileKangaroo
[edit]As you were adding the same link to several articles, it appeared that you were spamming to promote FileKangaroo. Please see Wikipedia:External links and Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not. Thanks. Trivialist (talk) 15:15, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of AVG Antivirus 2013 details
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on AVG Antivirus 2013 details requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://download.cnet.com/AVG-AntiVirus-2014/3000-2239_4-10385707.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Articles
[edit]Hey, I just thought I'd drop a note to explain why people are looking at the addition of links and various articles as spam and copyvio. The problem is that you can't just add links to pages and call them a source or put them in the external links. Most times the only time you can place a link to a specific program or site is if the page is about that specific product. In extremely, extremely rare circumstances you can add a link to another page, but that's almost only in cases where the product in question is so overwhelmingly notable and linked to the topic at hand that it makes complete sense for it to be linked. This is incredibly rare and would only be used in cases such as Steve Jobs and Apple, and even then most times the links aren't put on the entry. Please note that notability and popularity/usage are not the same thing. A website can be frequently visited and used, yet never pass notability guidelines or be considered notable enough to merit an article or a mention on a page. It doesn't matter if the website you're trying to add has ads on it- that's somewhat irrelevant. The problem here is the notability.
The problem with saying "why can you add links while I can't" is that the links and sources others use would forseeably pass notability guidelines and external links guidelines while the ones you are adding won't. Getting angry and accusing people of being hypocrites is not really a good way of trying to make your case. Also, saying that other pages should be removed because your entry wasn't accepted is not a valid argument for the page to be accepted or the other pages to be removed. The existence of another page doesn't mean that the page in question passes notability guidelines. It might just mean that the page hasn't been seen and deleted yet. For example, I can't see where the current version of FileHippo shows notability for the website, so all that means is that someone hasn't nominated it for deletion yet. If you want to nominate it for AfD, (WP:AfD), feel free to pursue that option. However, in the case of articles such as Facebook, the company/website in question is undeniably notable. I also noted that some of the other articles you mention don't currently exist on Wikipedia, such as in the case of 4Shared.
Another thing I want to mention is that you commented upon how other sites get traffic from Wikipedia. You need to understand that Wikipedia is not a place to drum up traffic for another website. We're an encyclopedic website that lists notable things that pass our notability guidelines. If something doesn't pass our notability guidelines, it does not belong on here. We're not a place to advertise.
Finally, please don't attack other editors. I hate to end this on a negative note, but if you continue to post rants or messages on people's userpages that feel like attacks, then you run the risk of being blocked. Also, if you continue to try to add the link to FileKangaroo to other pages, you could run the risk of being blocked as a spammer, since your only purpose here seems to be to add links to this website to various places. This is your last warning. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:18, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
- On a side note, I've tagged your userpage for deletion since it's being used to rant against other editors. This doesn't mean that you can't continue to edit, just that the userpage itself will be gone. Posts such as that one that disparage or attack people aren't seen as kosher on Wikipedia. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:21, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
- I also have to ask... since you mentioned that you are a webmaster, are you the owner of FileKangaroo? If so, then you will probably want to read over our conflict of interest guidelines. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:23, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
- Hm... to have an article we'd have to have coverage in reliable sources to show its notability. Stuff such as coverage in newspapers and the like is usually how this goes. For example, if someone wrote an article about you in PC Magazine or on their website, we could use that to show notability as long as it wasn't a press release or just 2-3 sentences long. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 05:01, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
- Although on a side note, you can continue to work on the copy of the article in AfC. As long as you're still making edits on the entry, the page won't be easily deleted. When it comes to AfC most of the time the only way the page is deleted is if it's copyvio, abandoned for 6+ months, or is overwhelmingly promotional. I don't see where the entry is promotional and it doesn't look like it's copyvio, so no fears on that end. (Copyvio would be if you were to copy stuff directly from the website. Even if you wrote it, that's still seen as technically copyvio on here.) Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 05:03, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
