Throughout your excellent list, you have used the link Abba. This is a redirect - if possible it should be avoided. The correct name for the band is ABBA.

I'm not sure what you did your original editing in - is it easier for you to search-replace in your offline copy than it is to search-replace from the article as it is now? Garrie 03:22, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging for Image:Sbeen-everywhere-record.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sbeen-everywhere-record.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Number 1 (one) lists

[edit]

Rusty, we seem to have acquired two sets of articles: List of number-one singles in Australia during the 1970s and List of Number 1 singles in Australia during the 1970s (and similar for each decade). One is a copy of the other which is both confusing and pointless. I intend to change the latter to a redirect pointing to the former. —Moondyne 05:22, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Woops, I see User:Ss112 has already started doing that. —Moondyne 05:25, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually - "the number 1 singles" pages were more advanced than the "number-one" singles page I set up. Now I have lost hours of hard work as you have anniliated it! Can you please reinstate the "number 1 singles" as the default?
Well that's the problem that you created when you copied and pasted the articles into new names. The next person that comes along doesn't necessarily know which is the 'good' version. The lost edits are still there in the the redirect pages edit history, so if you say you'd prefer to keep the "number 1" versions, I'll do a edit history merge. —Moondyne 13:10, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. Rusty, please sign your talk page edits as it makes communication much easier. You just add 4 tildes ~~~~. Thanks —Moondyne 13:14, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As a courtesy to other editors, it is a Wikipedia guideline to sign your posts on talk pages, user talk pages, and WikiProject pages. To do so, simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments and your user name or IP address and the date will be automatically added along with a timestamp. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). For further info, read Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. Thank you. —Moondyne 13:15, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, the signature worked fine. Well done! I agree re changing the eighties page into table format like the seventies. (We really appreciate your hard work by the way - please keep it up). Do you still want me to merge the other decades singles articles, or was it only the seventies one that needed doing? —Moondyne 13:37, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]

Before you get too far advanced, you need to understand the deal here with images. Wikipedia is quite strict on only allowing free, or public domain images to be used in Wikipedia articles. In some cases, a 'fair use' claim can be made. In the case of music album covers, these are under copyright and are not free. You therefore need to tag each and every image you upload with a special tag {{Non-free album cover}} AND add a fair use rationale AND declare the source of the image. If you don't do this the image will be deleted in due course. I see most of the images have been already tagged as likely deletion targets.

I suggest you read Wikipedia:Non-free content for some guidance. I'm happy to help explain more if needed.

You've uploaded a bundle of images so far [1] (which is great by the way, but you must now go back and sort out tagging as explained above. If you decide that you've uploaded an image which you don't want or need, let me know and I can delete it for you. —Moondyne 14:10, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"better versions"

[edit]

To merge the edit histories requires administrator access (we have to temporarily delete and then undelete the article) so you woudn't be able to do it yourself anyway. Don't worry, I'll sort it out - that's why Jimbo pays me so much! (not). —Moondyne 14:14, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

More on images

[edit]

Firstly a tip: you don't have to copy the previous message I posted back on my page when replying. We sometimes do that as a courtesy when there are multiple conversations going on and it needs to be clear who and what you are replying to. Normally you'd just reply on my talk page and I should be able to follow the gist of the conversation.

With regards to images, no, the drop down list is just a shortcut way of selecting a license tag. It has nothing to do with publishing a fair use rationale. I suggest adding the tag manually as you upload the image. The easiest way to explain is perhaps point you to one that is completed; say Image:Beatles - Abbey Road.jpg. Note that it has:

  1. A description which includes the source. ie "Cover of The Beatles album, Abbey Road."
  2. The license tag: {{Non-free album cover}}
  3. The fair use rationale:
"The image linked here is claimed to be used under fair use as:
1. It is a low-resolution copy of an album cover,
2. Its use here does not limit the copyright owner's ability to market the album in any way,
3. It is being used for informational purposes only, not for profit"

(Image:Flaming Pie.jpg is another example) If you can place those three things on each image page you should be OK. You can also remove the 'no copyright holder' template from the image file at the same time.

Any editor can dispute a fair use claim at any time. If they did and you felt you had made sufficient statements to justify the claim, then it would be discussed more widely and community consensus would prevail. Generally, if you do the right thing and make an honest good-faith attempt you won't have any problems.

Here's some more examples of F/U rationales.

Good luck. —Moondyne 15:30, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well done! —Moondyne 05:52, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed that some of the images have already been deleted. Let me know when you're ready and I can undelete these as long as you promptly add the required tag and info. Deletion can start any time after 7 days from being tagged. —Moondyne 00:25, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The deleted ones will be a redlink rather than blue. The full list [2] is now all blue links (ie. none are deleted). —Moondyne 02:14, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There really is no need to add all of those as they are in the {{Australian music charts}}template

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Ooh! Look-a-There, Ain't She Pretty?, by MihaS, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Ooh! Look-a-There, Ain't She Pretty? is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Ooh! Look-a-There, Ain't She Pretty?, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Ooh! Look-a-There, Ain't She Pretty? itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 22:35, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page names of Australian #1 albums and singles

[edit]

Hey Rusty, I recently read yours and Moondyne's conversations and it didn't seem like you both agreed to change the name of the articles back to "number 1" instead of "number-one". From what I can gather, Moondyne supports the "number-one" side of things. I'm not trying to stand over your efforts or anything, but it seems like that you were saying that for the articles you created with "number 1" in the titles, there were different pages with "number-one" in the title. This was not the case - I created the majority of the "number-one"-titled pages, unless someone else had, and it got deleted or something. If there was, the information certainly wasn't different - I didn't see any inconsistencies between any versions, unless you mean how there was a "number-one"-titled singles page for the 1970s, which was the only one I noticed - and there weren't any differences from your already-created "number 1"-titled pages. I hope I didn't sound rude, as this was not my intention, but I just wanted to let you know. Thanks. User:Ss112 09:11, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I replied on my talk page. As I said there, I'm not all that fussed what its called as llong as we're consistent. The main this is that now we have one page with redirects, not two pages being edited in parallel. —Moondyne 12:31, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kent

[edit]

Barry, thanks, I guessed that his retro-calculated charts was what was causing the reference to Jan 1970 at OZNET. I won't be contacting him myself as technically, articles should be able to stand scrutiny without contributions and verifications from the subject by using good secondary source material. Else we have conflict of interest issues.

By the way http://www.poparchives.com.au/gosetcharts/ is excellent. It must have taken a lot of work. It would be quite acceptable to write a short bio of yourself and link to that (and anything else you think appropriate) on your user page. Cheers. —Moondyne 13:11, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I hope I didn't get the wrong message across and say that I WAS a WikiNewb (seems like my new word, lol!)... I've been on Wikipedia for a while... anyway, who cares? Go-Set

[edit]

I am trying to add this to the Go-Set page:

Go-Set national charts began publication on 5th October 1966. Although Go-Set began publication on 2nd February 1966, individual state charts were published weekly before October. In effect, Go-Set's chart was the first Australian national chart published in Australia.

Maybe, but you deleted the external links and the categories - did you see that? SatuSuro 07:44, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No big deal - I have no doubts (and have seen) about your hard work - I just think we need to put the stuff back with a revert and maybe put the text higher up in the article - sorry to be a nuisance SatuSuro 07:52, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It all looks good. Cheers —Moondyne 10:22, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

List of number-one singles in Australia during the 1980s

[edit]

Hi Rusty, A couple of comments: firstly, I like the table format very much and I think it's a huge improvement. I also like the additional commentary that has been added, and the kind of historical perspective given to the source of the charts. That's all superb. I think the tables could be condensed as I don't think it really needs to have a line for each chart week. I think it would look tidier if the date column contained a range of dates, then it would only need one line for the song artist, title and number of weeks. Also italics are usually used for album titles, and song titles are just presented within quotation marks. I think for consistency, that would be the way to go. Also.... I have to say this, even though I personally like them - the images. Sooner or later someone is going to say that they do not constitute fair use and as such should be removed. If you look at the earlier version of the list, I included images also, and ended up removing them. I can't remember exactly what took place but it's just something to be aware of. I really like what you're doing, even though it might look like most of my comments are negative. I'm actually very glad that you're doing this. Cheers Rossrs 11:48, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ross

thanks for your feedback. I wanted to give people the opportunity to contact me first before wiping what people had done before. I understand you put the page together originally?

I have contributed a number of pages in this genre, including these:

List of number-one singles in Australia during the 1960s List of number-one singles in Australia during the 1970s List_of_number-one_albums_in_Australia_during_the_1960s List_of_number-one_albums_in_Australia_during_the_1970s List_of_number-one_albums_in_Australia_during_the_1980s

I got the idea for the layout from looking through what was on offer overseas, and thought the best version was this one, also from Down Under (NZ): List_of_number-one_singles_in_1981_(NZ) I like the fact that visually you get the sense of the passage of time in this format and the idea of which songs were number one for a longer time period visually, rather than just a number in a column of figures representing a number of weeks; although I understand your argument, that it may look cumbersome, or take up a bit more space to do it the "NZ way". I compiled a website on Go-Set charts last year and followed the model you describe there: http://www.poparchives.com.au/gosetcharts/singles.html , although I can't say I'm 100% happy with it, I prefer the layout here on wikipedia.

Another couple of considerations: adding more dates would potentially widen the columns, leaving less room for the display of the images on the right hand side, especially in older browsers/with lower screen resolutions. At the Dec/Jan period of each year, there is no need to add: "2 weeks this year and 5 weeks the following year", as it's clear from the table what is going on, as it now stands. This also applies when a song was number one for a few weeks, then something else comes along, then the old one returns to the top again... (eg. Flashdance / Australiana in 1983) it smakes it easier when it's in the "NZ" visual format. I'd really like to leave it as it is please, if you don't mind, as it would mean a lot of work going back through all the pages above and standardising it. Can you live with that ... please? I did not touch the ARIA singles Jun 88+ and left them in the format you composed it in, to distinguish it from the Kent charts.

I don't propose to do the 1990s, as I don't have the ARIA charts or a full set of Kent Music Report charts for the period. I don't propose touching the 2000s material either, which is also ARIA. Will leave it for someone else to fill in the missing 90s albums. I do have singles data from the 1940s & 50s, though.... maybe someday in the future.

As far as quotes and itals are concerned, that is much easier to fix, as it would be just a matter of find & replace. I noted the NZ site has both itals & quotes. I thought the quotes looked a bit clunky, which is why I decided on itals, not knowing what any standards were. I've made / am making certain that the images used are also on other wikipedia pages as well, so that they shouldn't be removed. I also got the correct "fair usage" wording from wikipedia staff and went through and included it on every single page for each image that i uploaded. So its been a lot of work already, the whole thing!

I'll leave it as is for a week or so in case anyone else wishes to comment. Thanks again for your compliments, regards Rusty201 17:58, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rusty, That all sounds fine to me. My comments were suggestions only and I can see your viewpoint. It's obvious that you've put a lot of work into this, and I do support your aim. regards Rossrs 12:11, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Draft version for Australian number 1 singles of 1980s

[edit]

Hey, Rusty. I say go ahead and do it. Rossrs, as far as I can see, has given his approval and really, I think it's great. I agree with Rossrs, though - quotes would look better than itals, but I would say never go for the style used on the NZ pages (the ugly-looking itals and quotes). No-one seems to be what you'd call "overly concerned" or protected with the page (I may be wrong!), but if you feel you must, provide a link to your version on the talk page of the current version. I wouldn't say providing a link on the actual page is a good idea; it just doesn't seem like the type of thing that would be put on there. Like Wikipedia says, "be bold"! I know it's hard to be bold in doing this sort of thing when one looks back and sees the work gone into the page, but then again, you've worked hard on your version, and for reasons of consistency, I say go for it. Also, I don't know what Rossrs and Moondyne think, but I think overly-repetitive links don't look too good; I hope you don't mind a couple of days I ago I removed some on the page for the List of number-one albums in Australia during the 1960s (although now, I must say, it looks rather bare), but it's not such a big issue. Thanks. User:Ss112 23:18, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

for the record, I think the NZ combination of quote and italics is just plain wrong :-( Rossrs 12:11, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for delayed reply. Agree with all of above. Combining italics and apostrophes is just plain wrong as well as looking like crap. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (text formatting). I say go for it too and be bold!.

Thanks for edits to ARIA Charts

[edit]

Hey, Rusty! I don't know if I've done so in the past, but I'll do it now - thanks for your consistent and great edits to Australian charts-related pages. If it weren't for you, we would still be without information on the 60s, 70s and even after and before this (when you put it in - I say go for it!). I'd say the information from your Kent Report books are more likely correct than the OZNet listings (do they cite their info?), and thanks for clearing that up on the ARIA Charts page (now "Fernando" by ABBA is the best single in Australia, lol, and rightfully so). Thanks again! Q: Do the Kent Report books list only the number-ones, or the top 50 (10, 20, 30, whatever, lol) charts for each week? Thanks in advance! User:Ss112 08:09, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I get that alot... I just think it's ugly, like I do <br /> and <br/> tags. User:Ss112 09:40, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

2 options

[edit]

Hi, you've basically got 2 options. You can go revert yourself on the "List of number-one albums in Australia" articles and not be blocked, or you can make myself or another administrator do the work, in which case, you will be blocked. You can decide. Nick 12:54, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Images in lists

[edit]

Please stop adding copyrighted images to lists; your recent edits are in violation of our Non-free content guidelines. Thank you, Kusma (talk) 12:55, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rusty201! Firstly you've been doing great work on all those Aussie music lists - they look really good. However, copyrighted images in list articles are not generally acceptable. There's been a lot of debate over this in the past, and general consensus is that they are in violation of our non-free content guidelines. However, lists can still be good without a bunch of images. List of South Park episodes is a featured list which had all of its unfree images removed, but still maintains its featured status. I know that the images help flesh out the list a bit, but they're not really allowed.
I'd hate to see anyone blocked over something like this - I know you're a good contributor - so this is just a heads-up for the future. "Fair use" galleries aren't really "fair use" at all.
Keep up the good work! Cheers, Riana 13:08, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ditto from me Rusty. I probably should have explained this a bit more the other day when you were uploading and tagging your images, but as Riana said, this thing has been heavily debated quite recently and perhaps consensus is only now starting to emerge. I apologise if I didn't explain this fully. Don't lose heart and keep up the editing. —Moondyne 13:15, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, it appears you genuinely didn't realize non free images weren't allowed in lists, so let me apologise for my comments above. If you find that someone has made an edit like that, especially an administrator or more experienced user, please contact them for advice on what to do next. We often receive complaints and/or permission requests through e-mail, so in many cases, unusual reverts made by trusted editors can indicate there being an important reason for the edit which may not be apparent. If you do revert, please remember to explain exactly what you did in your Edit Summary. m:OTRS volunteers deal with complaints from the public and from copyright holders and may need to remove text and/or images from an article in often mysterious circumstances. In this case, it was because our non free image policy prevents us from using images that we don't own the copyright on, or where the image is copyrighted to someone else but released under a free licence, so we can't use album covers to decorate an article, a screenshot to decorate an episode list, each fair use image must be, in effect, essential to the article and the lack of image would make the article considerably more difficult to understand. This isn't the case with lists such as the one you were working on. Non Free Images (often called Fair Use images) normally have all their copyright rights reserved, making publication or redistribution without the consent of the owner illegal, and it's only American copyright policy that permits the use of these images, for illustrative or critical commentary purposes. To assist in illustrating the uses we have for any non free image, we require a detailed rationale or justification for Wikipedia holding an image they ordinarily would have no right to use. If you upload any image that is not under a free licence, you must make sure you include a suitable fair use rationale. Best Wishes Nick 13:23, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry - I don't understand this (above)

I'm really pissed off about this... i spent MORE THAN 12 HOURS getting all those images up there .... NOW......FOR NOTHING. I have wasted lots of time. I dont see why the images can't be there, they are in effect good advertising for those companies, if that what all the fuss is about. You might as well ban all the album/single cover images from wikipedia nd be consistent. I spent so long doing all this work, and for no pay. I don't think its fair and I dont understand the rationale behind it. Can any action be taken on this? Is there an appeals tribunal?

I AM disheartened and considering not contributing further to wikipedia, if many hours of hard work are going to be dumped by some anonymous wikipedia bureaucrat. There was no warning about this. The pages of legalese don't make much sense to a newcomer wanting to contribute. Rusty201 14:49, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, I do understand where you're coming from, but you have to understand that the Wikimedia Foundation is incredibly strict about copyright issues. As stated above, the fair-use policy basically now says that such images can only be used for illustrative or critical commentary purposes. Which basically means that they cannot be used in list articles. That is a determination that has been made by the lawyers who believe that that's the only way the the encyclopaedia can operate under its 'open' license through their interpretation of copyright law. You're not the first person to get pissed about this and you won't be the last by a long way.
I really hope that you can put this behind you and that you won't leave as there is much to do and your input is valuable (see below). Please let me know if there's anything I can do. —Moondyne 18:11, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, there is no sigegstion that tne images can't be used in the album articles. —Moondyne 02:13, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You previously indicated an interest in this at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals. I've started up a new page but it needs lots of work. Come on over and join up. Regards. —Moondyne 18:11, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Horrormovie.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Horrormovie.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 21:06, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:DownUnderCover.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:DownUnderCover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Thanks for uploading Image:1982-with-a-bullet.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

(charts 1980s)

[edit]

Hi, I have just created 2 new Australian charts pages List of Top 40 albums for 1980-1989 in Australia and List of Top 40 singles for 1980-1989 in Australia. Could you please link them into the system?

I presume you're asking to have these lists added into Template:Australian music charts. If so, I'm not sure how, given the structure of the template, but I'm sure it can be done—I'll give it some thought.
Also, I don't really understand what the lists actually are. For example, Never Gonna Give You Up was number one for 6 weeks from Nov87 to Jan88, according to List of number-one singles in Australia during the 1980s. Its at number 1 in your list. We Are the World was number 1 for 9 weeks during April-June 1985, but its number 16 in the list. Its probably obvious to you, but apparently I'm missing something. Moondyne 12:42, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, please consider adding your name to the WP:AUSMUS page. There you'll find a like-minded and friendly bunch who will happily help with Australia-music-related Wikipedia articles and issues. Moondyne 12:47, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
those charts are calculated by David kent of the Kent Music Report and they are based on the number of weeks and position the records reach within the top 100 singles for each weke. Even though a song may spend less time at number one than another, it may be in the charts for far longer than anything else, which has a bearing on how those charts work. thanks
You need to clearly say that then as its not apparent from the lead that thats the case. You also need to add the citation under a ==References== section. Moondyne 05:04, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nominations of List of number-one albums in Australia during the 1980s and 1990s

[edit]

I have nominated List of number-one albums in Australia during the 1980s and List of number-one albums in Australia during the 1990s, pages you created, for deletion. The discussion for these articles, as well as the List of number-one albums in Australia during the 1970s article, are at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of number-one albums in Australia during the 1970s. Your opinions at the discussion are welcome, and thank you for your time.--Classicrockfan42 (talk) 16:47, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hope you don't mind me butting in - you asked Sarah to provide you with a copy of the deleted content, but as she has been busy offline, I thought I'd reply. I have pasted a copy at User:Rusty201/Number ones. I know nothing of the situation personally and am solely acting on this request after having reviewed that it is unproblematic to do so. Australian number-one album lists

[edit]

Hello Rusty201, I have received your messages on the Australian number-one album lists. I saw your many edits on the decade lists, and it is clear that you spent a lot of time on them. For that reason, I am sorry that I have created separate number-one album lists by year without informing you of this. During the deletion discussion talks, I realized that preference between the two formats (yearly and decade) is divided, as opposed to when I was creating the yearly lists, when I thought I was making an improvement.

I have read your comments regarding the weeks spent at number-one for each album, and I agree that the yearly lists could be improved by adding this. I will see what I can do to add this to the yearly lists.

As a final note, I will not edit the singles list if you do not want me to. Thank you for your time.

Happy editing,

Thanks for your uploads. You've indicated that the following images are being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why they meet Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page an image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Thanks for uploading Image:Verybestcarpenters.gif.

Hello Rusty201! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 415 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. The file File:S658072.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-free cover art being used in Normie Rowe#Sixties stardom: 1965–1966 and Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)#Normie Rowe. Non-free cover art is generally allowed per item 1 of WP:NFCI when it serves as the primary means of identification in the main infobox or at the top of a stand-alone article about the song/album in question. However, a much stronger justification for non-free use is typically required when the the cover art is used in other ways or in other articles as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3. While it's true that this was a big hit for Rowe, the reader does not need to see this cover art to understand anything written about the song in the Rowe article; moreover, the cover art itself is not the subject of any sourced discussion within the Rowe article, so the context required by WP:NFCC#8 is lacking. The use in the song article is problematic because Rowe's version is a cover version, so once again it is not the primary topic of the article. If Rowe's version was notable enough for a stand-alone article per WP:NSONG, then using the cover art for indentification might be acceptable; that does not seem to be the case and cover art is once again not itself the subject of any sourced commentary within the article about the main song. Another problem with this file's use is that it does not really have the seperate specific non-free use rationales it needs for each use as required by WP:NFCC#10c. There is a general statement regarding "fair use", but some more specific is needed for each use to show how said use meets all 10 non-free content criteria.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Que Sera Sera label (Normie Rowe version).jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Que Sera Sera label (Normie Rowe version).jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Replaceable non-free use File:Nancy Sinatra single cover These Boots Are Made for Walkin.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Nancy Sinatra single cover These Boots Are Made for Walkin.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 09:01, 28 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
