Lists of transactions by general managers

[edit]

Hi! I've been thinking on your attempts to add lists of transactions by Burke, Nieuwendyk and others on their articles, and while the idea has merit, I wanted to explain why I reverted the addition. The most significant reason for me is POV concerns. We should not be using our own judgement to say what a "notable trade" is. (and even if we were, there is no way Jiri Tlusty for Phillipe Paradais would qualify). The notable deals (i.e.: the Kessel trade) will be discussed heavily in the media - and therefore, is something we should be listing in prose. My second concern is the risk of placing undue weight within the article. A list of this type would quickly become a list of all trades, and completely overwhelm the rest of an article.

However, I think there is merit to your general idea. I am not at all certain if something like List of trades by Brian Burke would survive an articles for deletion discussion here on Wikipedia, but I think there is definitely a place to compile such lists on the ice hockey wikia, and then place a link to the wikia article in the external links section of the articles here. Just some food for thought, and I welcome you to join us at the hockey project here on Wikipedia to discuss the merits of these lists, or other topics. Cheers! • Hi, thanks for your generous response. My main reasoning behind wanting to add a list of player trades to NHL general managers' pages was simply that I often find myself just wanting that list for my own convenience. It's easy to search and find a list of trades by NHL team but it's rare to see it be specific to NHL GMs. You made great points considering that a "notable" trade is something that's subjectively determined, and high profile trades like the Kessel trade will be mentioned elsewhere in the article. I think I will take your advice to compile lists for each GMs on the ice hockey wikia and point to them on the wikipedia pages. Thanks again! Rrubenking (talk) 06:04, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
