This is regarding Draft:Chaudhary Fateh Singh Ji Jagatpur, I have done some edits and toned down the copy, please check them. thanking you Jayanagas (talk) 06:19, 9 July 2019 (UTC)

Regarding Thorn/Toruń

Either way could technically work, although I've yet to see a source label it by its German name. However, if you see that as the best way to link it to similar articles, I'd be perfectly fine with having every mention of the word Toruń replaced with Thorn. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DaFrenchyy (talkcontribs) 15:42, 9 July 2019 (UTC)

This is what the new Edit Cards for editing links in the mobile visual editor look like. You can try the prototype here: 📲 Try Edit Cards.

Welcome back to the Editing newsletter.

Since the last newsletter, the team has released two new features for the mobile visual editor and has started developing three more. All of this work is part of the team's goal to make editing on mobile web simpler.

Before talking about the team's recent releases, we have a question for you:

Are you willing to try a new way to add and change links?

If you are interested, we would value your input! You can try this new link tool in the mobile visual editor on a separate wiki.

Follow these instructions and share your experience:

📲 Try Edit Cards.

Recent releases

The mobile visual editor is a simpler editing tool, for smartphones and tablets using the mobile site. The Editing team has recently launched two new features to improve the mobile visual editor:

  1. Section editing
    • The purpose is to help contributors focus on their edits.
    • The team studied this with an A/B test. This test showed that contributors who could use section editing were 1% more likely to publish the edits they started than people with only full-page editing.
  2. Loading overlay
    • The purpose is to smooth the transition between reading and editing.

Section editing and the new loading overlay are now available to everyone using the mobile visual editor.

New and active projects

This is a list of our most active projects. Watch these pages to learn about project updates and to share your input on new designs, prototypes and research findings.

  • Edit cards: This is a clearer way to add and edit links, citations, images, templates, etc. in articles. You can try this feature now. Go here to see how: 📲Try Edit Cards.
  • Mobile toolbar refresh: This project will learn if contributors are more successful when the editing tools are easier to recognize.
  • Mobile visual editor availability: This A/B test asks: Are newer contributors more successful if they use the mobile visual editor? We are collaborating with 20 Wikipedias to answer this question.
  • Usability improvements: This project will make the mobile visual editor easier to use.  The goal is to let contributors stay focused on editing and to feel more confident in the editing tools.

Looking ahead

  • Wikimania: Several members of the Editing Team will be attending Wikimania in August 2019. They will lead a session about mobile editing in the Community Growth space. Talk to them about how editing can be improved.
  • Talk Pages: In the coming months, the Editing Team will begin improving talk pages and communication on the wikis.

Learning more

The VisualEditor on mobile is a good place to learn more about the projects we are working on. The team wants to talk with you about anything related to editing. If you have something to say or ask, please leave a message at Talk:VisualEditor on mobile.

Workarea Commerce Platform

RoySmith, I am a different user than JakeTarma (talk · contribs) and will pursue the company page creation by following the suggestions found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations

Thanks

Btillcom80 (talk) 15:51, 16 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi Roy, Thank you for taking the time to review my article draft.

I noted the both Magento and Shopify have pages and Workarea Commerce Platform is a competitor that currently does not have a wikipedia page, I decided to make one. I recognize that citing sources is very important, so that's why Btillcom80 is helping me edit sources. I noticed that both Magento and Shopify look to have been written by people who work there, both with notes that their pages may not comply with wikipedia guidelines. There is no intention to be promotional. What are the appropriate actions to create a page for Workarea Commerce Platform? I'd be happy to remove any language that might sound promotional. I am new to wikipedia and am learning. I appreciate your feedback.

JakeTarma (talk)

Every page is evaluated on its own merits. The fact that other companies have pages isn't a factor. Please read WP:COI for some guidance. My personal policy is to simply not write about companies I'm associated with. I think that's a good policy for everybody to adopt, and urge you to do the same. -- RoySmith (talk) 16:23, 16 July 2019 (UTC)

Regarding your Block...

Hi, you recently blocked User:The_Real_Steele and I was wondering what made you decide to do that? The user in question, has not edited since December of last year and from the look of it, they were just a bit of a clueless newbie rather than something malicious to the Wiki. What are your thoughts on this? I noticed the action because they were someone I dealt with back then and I check my watchlist everyday, even though I don't edit that much any more. Thanks in advance. -=Troop=- (talk) 22:54, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

They just submitted User:The Real Steele/sandbox, which is basically their resume. Looking at their history, they've submitted this several times, in various places, and that's the only thing they've ever done. Not to mention the promotional username. -- RoySmith (talk) 22:59, 19 July 2019 (UTC)
Oh I didn't notice that. Thanks for pointing that out and keep up the good work of blocking those spammers. Best wishes! -=Troop=- (talk) 23:01, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

From Walpola Layantha Perera

Dear Mr. Roy Smith, Thank you very much for reading my article. Today I got a message from a Wikipedia saying that my article was declined because there is another article exists under this title. But when I type Computer Reasoning it redirects me to Automated Reasoning page. I don't want to write about Automated Reasoning. I want to write about Computer Reasoning, which are two different subjects. Hence, could you please let me publish the Computer Reasoning Article? I would really appreciate if you could do so, because I am doing researches in this area, and if you could give me an opportunity, then I am planning to write much more under the Computer Reasoning title in this Wikipedia article page.

Thank you very much for your precious time and considerations.

Have a good day Mr.Roy Smith!

Hi -- would like further direction on Draft:GFP_Real_Estate . I drafted it using inspiration and format from Silverstein_Properties, though expanded on it with research and articles I found, including NYT articles back to 1981. Should I strip it back? Unclear where to take this, especially when you benchmark it to other NY property companies where it seems to me to be really similar. If not, then there seem to be mixed standards for what should be included. Thanks in advance.

Williamword (talk) 18:36, 22 July 2019 (UTC)

You didn't respond to my implicit query about WP:COI, so I'll be more explicit here. Are you being paid to write this article? Do you have any relationship with the subject of the article? -- RoySmith (talk) 00:00, 23 July 2019 (UTC)

Request on 09:54:07, 24 July 2019 for assistance on AfC submission by Meneer

On my draft iWelcome page you reacted: 'This is a small, privately held, company. Such companies are rarely notable. Based on the references here, this one seems like no exception. It certainly fails WP:NCORP. There's been no substantial improvement since the last time this was declined. Please do not resubmit without sources which meet the requirements laid out in WP:ORGCRIT.'

I care to disagree. For US readers outside the infosec or Identity And Access Management realm this may be a small company, in the Information Security world CIAM vendors are part of an ever growing market. This Dutch company (I am not related to it apart from the fact that I, as one of the experts in IAM know and respect them) is highly regarded by the De Facto IT Analists like Gartner and KuppingerCole (proof of this are the links to articles I posted in the article. Another link is a Forrester Research analysis I will add later, but I cannot accept that adding one such a link would make me pass the moderator threshold). I can add another customer, like the European Central Bank and/or RWE/Innogy, the EU energy conpany, would that make it a more noticable company for US eyes?

I try to be unbiased in my additions to wikipedia and expect my peers to act similar. And the comments you made trigger me to start editing the pages of competing firms, which, in many cases, are less informative and more biased than the page I created.

I also disagree about the statement that too few changes have been made compared to the previous submissions.

My request is to reconsider the refusal to publish.

Meneer (talk) 09:54, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Please read WP:NCORP to understand by what criteria we judge companies to be notable. The reason I stated that these kinds of companies are rarely notable was so as not to unduly get your hopes up that if you just did a little editing or added a few sources, the article would be accepted. -- RoySmith (talk) 20:04, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Possible sock

Jacobz1 (talkcontribs. The pattern is pretty similar to Zinzoo01 (contribs), jumping right into AfD's including "keep" on one of the same ones. Best, GPL93 (talk) 15:42, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

It's possible. My suggestion would be to open a case at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/حمید میرزایی, and let the checkusers look into it. -- RoySmith (talk) 00:02, 26 July 2019 (UTC)

Hello

Thank you for the review of my page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Amber_Studio After the first reviewer rejected my submission, I made several updates and added several new sources. I paste below my last exchange with the previous reviewer, where things seemed to be headed on the right track.

Kthan75, please see if you can find some more sources. The first one you posted and the VentureBeat one is promising. I found a wall-street.ro one that has some details as well. Also I removed the services section as that didn't add much. Can you review the tone of the article so that it is not advertising in nature? AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 17:48, 14 March 2019 (UTC)

AngusWOOF, thanks a lot for the quick feedback. I found several other sources which seem quite good (check [6] and [8]), including a major piece by a local TV channel, written and video, with interviews from several people from the company. I also added a bit to the history, thanks to some additional information from the new sources. Finally, I made some slight corrections and revisions to the text, to give a more neutral tone. I hope it's ok now, I resubmitted the draft.

If I have to pick, the top three sources for the subject are: [1] - an independent article about the games industry in Romania, which includes mentions of the company I was writing about [2] - an independent article and interview from a very reputable international publication [6] - an in-depth video material and interviews from a reputable news television in Romania (unfortunately, only in Romania)

Additionally, I would mention also [11] as a fully independent source (the Bucharest Stock Exchange) mentioning the company as a recipient of an award.

There were quite a few other small changes made to the initial article, including changing of the tone of voice and removing some less relevant info. If needed, I am available to make any other required changes, but would need to understand better what else would be needed.

Sorry if I'm missing something, this is my first Wikipedia submission.

Thanks for your support!

Kthan75 (talk) 14:31, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

UPDATE 26/July/2019 I made some changes to the History section and added one more independent source. At this point, I believe I have 3 relevant independent references: [1] - Intellinews, [11] - Bucharest Stock Exchange, [12] - Romanian Game Developers Association.

I also recommend reviewing references [2] and [6], even though they are interviews, they are more in-depth and reveal a lot of important information about the company.

Before resubmitting again, it would be great to get your confirmation that the submission should be fine now.

Thanks!

@Kthan75: as I said on the draft, I'm going to leave this to somebody else to re-review. -- RoySmith (talk) 18:51, 26 July 2019 (UTC)

Hello, I just want to tell you that an article Bhoot Police was deleted by you after a deletion discussion, as the filming had not started that time. But the filming will begin next week. Hi RoySmith, I was browsing AfC and came across this draft. Since your initial review comment, @Katie hargrave: has added sources and the draft appears to now satisfy WP:ARTIST The person's work (or works) has: (a) become a significant monument, (b) been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, (c) won significant critical attention, or (d) been represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries or museums. Is it ok with you if I move it to the main space? AugusteBlanqui (talk) 12:13, 30 July 2019 (UTC)

@AugusteBlanqui and Katie hargrave: Oh, my, this is embarrassing. I see the additional sources I asked for were added the day after I left my comment, but I had failed to watch the page so I didn't notice. My apologies for that. I'll go ahead and accept the draft right now. -- RoySmith (talk) 14:15, 30 July 2019 (UTC)

Articles for creation - advice

An unbaked pizza, with pineapple

Hi RoySmith,

I just saw your message on my Talk page on the Draft:Ron Kalifa draft I submitted way back in March. Firstly, thanks for reviewing it.

You reviewed the submission as rejected, not declined - does this mean it can't be improved anymore? When I first edited the page it was definitely a mess, but looked like it could be rescued. I like going through these pages and trying to fix them but if I'm going to spend a lot of time I do try to work on ones that have actual encylopedic potential and aren't just a weird advert. I haven't found a lot of those as you can imagine ...

I tried to follow the WP:ORGIND recommendations made to the original author who seems to have disappeared - after seeing your message I reread the WP guides on this and i agree, a few sources could be deleted, but nothing can be fixed if the article is rejected. I think that the page subject does pass WP:NBIO - without trying to get into WP:OTHERSTUFF or WP:NMO arguments, this individual has been recognized as well known and influential in the payments industry in honors lists and independent news sources even if they aren't the explicit topic of the article. WP:SBEXTERNAL may also be a factor due to the relative lack of coverage of BAME figures in this industry (though they have been recognized in BAME specific lists).

Is there a way to improve the article rather than reject it? I think this is a notable stub article that will likely improve with time rather than being contrary to the whole project goals (since March anyway).

No pineapple on Pizza (talk) 16:51, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

I've responded at Wikipedia:Teahouse. And, for what it's worth, I like pineapple on pizza. Sorry. -- RoySmith (talk) 19:19, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
@No pineapple on Pizza: I made this last night. Yum. -- RoySmith (talk) 22:24, 30 July 2019 (UTC)

---@RoySmith: Hello, I am wondering why the draft was rejected? There was no feedback stated. I don't have the page to provide a link to anymore.

The page was deleted under WP:G11 because it only served to promote a company. -- RoySmith (talk) 19:33, 31 July 2019 (UTC)

--@RoySmith: Thank you for the response; within the statute cited "This applies to pages that are exclusively promotional and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to conform with Wikipedia:NOTFORPROMOTION. If a subject is notable and the content could plausibly be replaced with text written from a neutral point of view, this is preferable to deletion. Note: Any article that describes its subject from a neutral point of view does not qualify for this criterion. However, "promotion" does not necessarily mean commercial promotion: anything can be promoted, including a person, a non-commercial organization, a point of view, etc."

I'm confused as to what part of the article was fundamentally written as a promotion? Was it the format? The citations? Was it the right hand panel?

According to the above - there are quite a few pages that would be listed as promotion (i.e. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadre_(company))

Just to add to this for context because the page doesn't exist anymore - could you point out where the promotion or non-neutral aspect lies in the content?

About

Elion Partners is an American real estate investment firm based in Miami, Florida. As a vertically integrated platform, Elion Partners serves as both a fiduciary to its capital partners and operator of its real estate assets. The firm manages a portfolio of more than US$2 billion in industrial, multifamily and retail properties across the United States.

History

Elion was founded in 2010 as an institutional grade investment platform. The firm is headquartered in Miami, Florida, with an additional office in New York City. As of 2019, Elion has managed $2 billion in gross real estate assets, and has invested in more than 120 properties. [1]

Do you have some connection to the company? I'm assuming you do. I'm also assuming, based on your detailed knowledge of our arcane policies, that you've been involved with wikipedia in ways beyond what your limited editing history would imply. Have you edited using other accounts before? -- RoySmith (talk) 20:52, 31 July 2019 (UTC)

--@RoySmith: Thank you for your response - that is actually flattering :D no - I'm not connected to the company but I am in the property technology space (hence the linkage to Cadre up above) as I was doing my own research I noticed they didn't have a page; as for your assumption on detailed knowledge of Wikipedia policies, it's a matter of reading. I don't know if you noticed but the activity on my profile breaks for a few days because I had to read the ridiculous amounts of pages (good articles / tips / policies). Hence why I'm curious on what was the issue with the content as I was positive I wrote it in a neutral matter with no bias.

--@RoySmith: Good morning, is there anything else which I could help clarify so that we could come to a resolution or progress in a civil matter? I'm trying to learn here and I hope to see some constructive feedback so that it aligns with Wikipedia's guidelines.

"We strive for articles that document and explain major points of view, giving due weight with respect to their prominence in an impartial tone. We avoid advocacy and we characterize information and issues rather than debate them. In some areas there may be just one well-recognized point of view; in others, we describe multiple points of view, presenting each accurately and in context rather than as "the truth" or "the best view". All articles must strive for verifiable accuracy, citing reliable, authoritative sources, especially when the topic is controversial or is on living persons. Editors' personal experiences, interpretations, or opinions do not belong."

The article posted is about a company which - out of 22 million US Companies (according to the IRS) has over $1 billion and that in turn puts it somewhere in the 1,922 group cited by Forbes - yet it has no Wikipedia presence. That is a notable omission and having information on them would be a notable contribution. I would also like to emphasize on that last sentence "Editors' personal experiences, interpretations, or opinions do not belong." considering that you assumed (interpreted) that A. I have a connection to the company B. That I have prior history of Wikipedia and C. That I am creating various profiles.

Please let me know what portion of what I wrote was "promotional" and "not neutral" - if it helps, we can move the content to a userspace so that it can be revised with your feedback.

Warm regards (talk) 10:02, August 1 2019 (UTC)

--@RoySmith: "We" is me and you. Considering I can't bring the page back on my own and you haven't explained your stance for deletion and you won't be re-writing the page, it would take more than just myself. So, me + you = we. (talk) 13:28, 1 August 2019 (UTC)

Unclear. It's very close. My personal opinion is that it meets the substantially identical requirement, but there are some, with stricter interpretations of G4, who would argue that it's not. My suggestion is bring it back to AfD. -- RoySmith (talk) 12:46, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

  • Following a research project on masking IP addresses, the Foundation is starting a new project to improve the privacy of IP editors. The result of this project may significantly change administrative and counter-vandalism workflows. The project is in the very early stages of discussions and there is no concrete plan yet. Admins and the broader community are encouraged to leave feedback on the talk page.
  • The new page reviewer right is bundled with the admin tool set. Many admins regularly help out at Special:NewPagesFeed, but they may not be aware of improvements, changes, and new tools for the Curation system. Since the introduction of temporary user rights, it is becoming more usual to accord the New Page Reviewer right on a probationary period of 3 to 6 months in the first instance. This avoids rights removal for inactivity at a later stage and enables a review of their work before according the right on a permanent basis.

Create articles

Hi. I saw that You have moved my sandbox article Draft:Walfrid Lehto to a draft page, thanks for that. I'm quite new around here (but I have long experience of writing on Swedish Wikipedia), so I wonder, how long time does it usually take for a new user to create articles by him/her self? What should I do to receive that right? Lantgård (talk) 13:21, 4 August 2019 (UTC)

@Lantgård: the normal situation is a new user automatically gets the ability to create new pages after four days and ten edits. See WP:CONFIRM for details. That's just an anti-spam measure; I don't see any problems with what you're doing, so I've gone ahead and granted you the "confirmed user" right manually. -- RoySmith (talk) 14:26, 4 August 2019 (UTC)
Also, is this a translation of an existing article from another language wiki? If so, you'll want to read Wikipedia:Translation#How_to_translate for some notes about how we do that. In particular, you'll want to make sure you've provided the proper attribution. -- RoySmith (talk) 14:29, 4 August 2019 (UTC)
@RoySmith: Thanks for Your help. No, it's not a translation. I've created articles about Walfrid Lehto and other Finnish-American singers on Swedish and Finnish Wikipedia, I've saved my references at my computer so now I'm just writing them at En.WP as well. Shirin Shila

Dear RoySmith, Shirin has acted as significant roles in multiple notable films. But, the page was deleted. I think, according to Wikipedia rule the page should be on Wikipedia.--S. M. Nazmus Shakib (talk) 13:45, 6 August 2019 (UTC)

You're talking about Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shirin Shila (2nd nomination). The applicable guideline would be WP:ENT. It was pretty clear that most people at the AfD felt this was not met. -- RoySmith (talk) 13:52, 6 August 2019 (UTC)
Dear RoySmith, she is a film actor. I will talk 2 users (PhobosCarlos and Harshil) had said about deletion.
PhobosCarlos had said to keep her article on Bangla Wikipedia not in English Wikipedia as lack of English sources. But it is not mandatory to provide English sources.
Harshil is nomited AFD in elected articles of MPs, MLAs and other strong keep article on Wikipedia. You can see his/her user log. May be, he doesn't have enough knowledge about Wikipedia.
In Wikipedia AFD is not an election. My logics were unanswered in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shirin Shila (2nd nomination).--S. M. Nazmus Shakib (talk) 14:25, 6 August 2019 (UTC)

Regional at Best

You cited my draft, Regional at Best (Twenty One Pilots album) was a duplicate of the other and that's why it was declined. However, our drafts our completely different despite covering the same topic. the other only covers the discontinuation while mine covers that, the background, the promotions, and future of the album. I ask that you please reconsider.

We don't publish multiple articles on the same topic. See WP:CFORK for more on that. On the other hand, please also see WP:Ownership of content; there's nothing to prevent you from merging your material into the other draft. I should point out, however, that none of this guarantees the draft will be accepted. WP:NALBUMS talks about notability of albums. I'm not an expert in that area, so I won't venture an opinion on whether this album meets the guideline. -- RoySmith (talk) 12:46, 9 August 2019 (UTC)

Our pronunciations-in-intro pet peeve

Hey there, I just wanted to say, I strongly agree with your comment at Wikipedia_talk:Disambiguation#How_much_hatnote_is_too_much? about overflowing pronunciation guides (but I figured I'd reply here to avoid pulling that discussion off topic). I recently read something in the MOS about this which I took note of, because it seemed shockingly sensible and yet poorly observed. From MOS:FIRST:

Be wary of cluttering the first sentence with a long parenthesis containing alternative spellings, pronunciations, etc, which can make the sentence difficult to actually read; this information can be placed elsewhere.

Though I guess for a stub like your Likhi Range example there's not a lot of "elsewhere" places to put them. Colin M (talk) 03:45, 9 August 2019 (UTC)

Interesting. I wasn't aware of that MOS passage. Thanks for pointing it out. I'm sure I'll make use of it in the future! -- RoySmith (talk) 12:47, 9 August 2019 (UTC)

Help fixing draft

I added some more sources and references to my article. In your opinion do you think it is qualified to be a Wikipedia article. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Let%27s_Talk_Elections
