Your call for help
[edit]Hi. What sort of help do you need? Cheers -- JackofOz 22:06, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Almost everythhing can you do a make over to my page
- Your page is there for you to put in whatever you please. It's for whatever you want to tell the rest of Wikipedia, and the rest of the world for that matter, about yourself or why you're here - be that nothing, a complete CV, a list of things you're interested in, or whatever. If you need help with formatting etc, there's plenty of help available on call. -- JackofOz 22:27, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Recommend you to my friends? Sorry, but with respect I won't be doing that. This is an encyclopedia. A great start would be to think of a topic you're interested in, find an article about it, read it, and if you can, improve it. Look in the History tab to see who's been editing the article recently, and you'll find people with common interests to you. Look at their individual edits and see what they've changed and why. You also need an official Welcome to Wikipedia, which is a toolkit of various guidelines and principles that are important for all editors to abide by. I'll see if I can locate the template and send one to you. Cheers -- JackofOz 22:39, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Notability of Short Pump Elementary School
[edit]A tag has been placed on Short Pump Elementary School requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Rocksanddirt (talk) 20:02, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Do you Realize?
[edit]do you realize that you have made your talk page a regular wikipedia article? It is likely to get deleted/moved back. I recommend you do it first. --Rocksanddirt (talk) 20:05, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Do not move your talk page to the encyclopedia
[edit]I have moved your talk page back to the User talk namespace, after you moved it to the encyclopedia mainspace. If you are not familiar with the namespaces and how they affect things, do not move pages around. Thanks. Leebo T/C 20:11, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Short Pump Elementary School
[edit]I have removed the hangon tag, since the article is no longer listed for speedy deletion: as an administrator reviewing requests for speedy deletion, I decided that it would be inappropriate to delete the page summarily, but I have proposed deletion of the article if concerns are not addressed within five days. The article will need to show that the school is notable, using independent sources (i.e. not just the school's own website). Regards, BencherliteTalk 22:06, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I don't know anything about the school so there's a limit to what I can do. Your best bet is to read guidance such as notability, the need for reliable sources and what Wikipedia is not and address points made there. Regards, BencherliteTalk 22:19, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Image page summaries
[edit]The summary section of an Image description page is a place for you to say exactly what an image depicts, where you got it, and any other info you might need to share in order for other users to make sure that the image can by used by Wikipedia legally. It's not a place to place random text like alihebfwqerlihubglwfkjgn, because that tells us nothing. If you upload an image and you are not the copyright holder, you need to be very specific about its copyright status and your fair use rationale. Leebo T/C 22:19, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Reply to question
[edit]No, there isn't a 'talk page' per se. You won't find any form of chat area on wikipedia. But if you have a specific question, try the Wikipedia village pump. This page also contains links to other areas that may be helpful.
As for altering your signature, this can be done through your preferences, under the 'User profile' tab. You will need to know a little html, but you can also use the wiki format as well. A simple example of this would be;
Rox<font color="#323A87">my</font><font color="#A61313">soxo</font>
This will produce;
Roxmysoxo
Always remember to wrap your signature with the userlink "User:Roxmysoxo". This way it will link back to your page.
One last thing. Please remember to sign your posts by using four tildes (~~~~)

Hi,
You tagged Image:SchoolFront.gif as a screenshot of a web page, but it's actually a photograph of a school. Pictures that you find on the Internet aren't necessarily pictures of web pages. :) There were two other problems with the image: (1) You need to specify who owns the copyright to that image. (2) Because Wikipedia strives to be freely distributable and modifiable, images that are not free for reuse and modification can be used only in very limited circumstances. One of the requirements for this is that images that could be replaced by freely usable and modifiable alternatives cannot be used. In this case, the image was a picture of a school building; in theory, you could take your own picture of the school and upload it under a license that is more compatible with Wikipedia's goals. — TKD::Talk 17:53, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit]AfD nomination of Short Pump Elementary School
[edit]Short Pump Elementary School, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that Short Pump Elementary School satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Short Pump Elementary School and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Short Pump Elementary School during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Speedy deletion of List of songs about weather
[edit]A tag has been placed on List of songs about weather requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon

WikiProject Roller Coasters Newsletter, December 2007

The WikiProject Roller Coasters Newsletter
Issue I - December 2007 Got any suggestions? - Add them here |
Welcome to the new WikiProject Roller Coasters Newsletter! Until now, in spite of a decent number of members signed up to the WikiProject, we have had no regular progress updates or information as to how much of a difference our contributions are making. This monthly newsletter aims to provide an overview of all the work that is being done behind the scenes and to celebrate the successes that would otherwise pass by unseen. Any suggestions for future additions and general help with the newsletter will be greatly appreciated. |
As can be seen on the assessment page, we are so close to finishing off assessment. If all current members of the WikiProject assessed just 2 articles, the backlog of unassessed-quality articles would be eliminated. The vast majority of articles are currently assessed as stubs, which is probably to be expected as many contain an infobox and nothing else. Getting these up to start-class is incredibly easy, many simply need references and tidying up. Even if you have very little knowledge on the article subject, this task should be fairly straightforward and is the first step in raising overall article quality. The following articles reached B-class quality during November: |
The Amusement Park Portal is now automatically linked to from the roller coaster infoboxes. It's important to remember that we need to integrate our articles with those covered by the Amusement Park WikiProject. When working on a roller coaster article, it's always a good idea to ensure that there is a wikilink from the relevant amusement park article, otherwise no-one will even know the article exists! |
During November the WikiProject was joined by 3 new members, bringing the total number up to 49. The to do list continues to serve as a place for flagging up articles in need of attention, review or comments. |
Just to get the idea out there, I'd like to propose a monthly article drive. With the poor state of most of the articles, it's unreasonable to suggest even a GA-drive, so a B-class drive would be more realistic. Any suggestions for January's article can be brought up on the WikiProject Talk Page. Suggested articles should be presently at start or stub class and have sufficient reliable sources available to work from. |
Thanks for reading, any feedback would be hugely appreciated! Have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! |

[edit]Thank you for uploading Image:Alexinger-tiny-christmas-8809.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. The WikiProject Roller Coasters Newsletter
Issue II - January 2008 Got any suggestions? - Add them here |
Welcome!
Welcome to the second WikiProject Roller Coasters Newsletter! December has seen some real progress in terms of bringing up the quality of roller coaster related articles on Wikipedia. Assessment and tagging of articles is almost completely done and efforts are now being focussed on quality and improving articles. This month also sees the start of the new B-class drive, a brilliant way to get involved with the WikiProject and achieve something together. |
Articles and Assessment
As far as assessment goes, the backlog from last month was cleared almost immediately after the last newsletter went out, almost single-handedly by Alton! A progress chart can be seen on the assessment page that shows we are slowly dragging up the quality of the articles covered by the WikiProject.
The following articles reached B-class quality during December: |
Amusement Parks Portal
The Amusement Parks Portal has been significantly expanded over the past month and is currently a candidate for featured portal. Any suggestions for featured articles and pictures can be put forward on their respective sections. |
Membership News
During December the WikiProject was joined by 2 new members, bringing the total number up to 49 after 2 inactive users were removed from the member list. The to do list continues to serve as a place for flagging up articles in need of attention, review or comments. |
B-class Drive
This month's B-class Drive: Arrow Dynamics
So here is the first article improvement drive for the WikiProject, Arrow Dynamics. There isn't a huge amount that needs doing apart from the addition of references, formatting and a copyedit. For any outstanding contributions there are barnstars available which can be given to and by anyone! Any suggestions for February's B-class Drive can be brought up on the talk page, so if there's a particular article you feel could benefit from more input then feel free to suggest it. |
...and finally...
Once again, thanks for reading! As always suggestions and offers of help are much appreciated. |

Issue III - February 2008 Got any suggestions? - Add them here |
Welcome!
Welcome to the WikiProject Roller Coasters Newsletter! January has seen a number of milestones being passed in the WikiProject. We've achieved our first good article, brought a portal up to featured portal status and successfully collaborated together on the first Article Improvement Drive, amongst other achievements. Let's carry on with the good work and continue bringing up the standard of all articles covered by the WikiProject! |
Articles and Assessment
We hit a milestone in January with our first GA-class article, Speed Monster! This shows just how easy it is improve articles by including references and increasing readability. Collaboration has got off to a good start, with the first chosen article, Arrow Dynamics, improving enough to reach B-class. The following articles reached GA-class or B-class quality during January: |
Amusement Parks Portal
The Amusement Parks Portal reached featured portal status during January! You can still nominate articles for the selected content sections on the portal. |
Membership News
During January the WikiProject was joined by 6 new members, bringing the total number up to 55. A very warm welcome to Etf, CPGACoast, RickMarkestein, Emackert, Onewayroad2home and Suttna08. The to do list continues to serve as a place for flagging up articles in need of attention, review or comments.
A discussion is taking place regarding the best way to organise information about roller coaster records and the history of roller coasters. All members' opinions are welcomed; the discussion can be found here.

Article Improvement Drive
This month's Article Improvement Drive: Roller coaster
Why not start at the top?! The main article is already at B class and, with a little help, isn't too far away from GA class. Please see the collaboration page for further information. Any suggestions for March's Article Improvement Drive can be brought up on the talk page, so if there's a particular article you feel could benefit from more input then feel free to suggest it. |
...and finally... Once again, thanks for reading! As always suggestions and offers of help are much appreciated. |

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:The good picture.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:The good picture.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Retropunk (talk) 05:59, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
Unspecified source for Image:Bigboom.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Bigboom.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:44, 25 February 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 00:44, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:22, 15 March 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 16:22, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Nickelodeon Newsletter - September 2008
[edit]
Nicktropolis a GA candidate The article Nicktropolis is currently a GA candidate. It was nominated on August 14, 2008, and, as of press, is still pending a review. You can review the article, just be neutral when you do. Here's the important links: |
New look You may have noticed some changes around the home page (and the newsletter). WP:NICK is getting a face lift, and so are most aspects of it. Jonathan and Macy are working on this so far, but we'd love your help! If our code has an issue, or you think a new bit of code will make it look better, feel free to work with it! |
Collaboration of the Month Our next collaboration depends on the pending GA review of Nicktropolis.
|
Archives We made a new page just so we can archive these newsletters. Go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Nickelodeon/Newsletter. I felt that was a bit lengthy, so I made a shortcut just for it. It's WP:NICK/NEWS. I created that so, if our delivery boy fails, you can still access the newsletter. |
Editor's note on the hiatus The newsletter went on hiatus for around 3 months because I took a wikibreak to get away from all the drama on Wikipedia. Let me tell you, though: I'm back, and I feel better than ever. So don't expect me to put the newsletter on hiatus for a long while. |
Kudos
Motto of the day
[edit]Hello, I notice you're using one of the motd templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.
When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.
If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:36, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Image:The actual Working thing.png
[edit]If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. New homepage! We've redesigned the home page for (hopefully) the last time for a while. If you don't like the new design, the old page is archived here. To match the new design, the newsletter's format has also been redesigned. I hope you like it!
As the member list seems to have gone basically stale, I have removed all members from the list and moved the member list to a page that is transcluded onto the home page. Please DO NOT add your name to the homepage! Thanks! |
Sorry this issue is a bit late... Personal obligations have overtaken my Wikipedia time, and I haven't exactly had time to send out this issue. November's issue is coming soon. I promise. :-)
Every month, I choose an article that I think needs help, or is just plain interesting. This month's article is Nickelodeon Magazine. Nickelodeon Magazine's article needs help. There are no sources. I know, for this page, it's practically impossible to get it to a FA, but let's imagine we're trying to get it to FA status. That will be a motive for us to add sources, improve the writing, etc. Let's work on this article for the wellness of it! </pep talk>

Speedy deletion nomination of Flashyguy
[edit]A tag has been placed on Flashyguy, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing no content to the reader. Please note that external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article don't count as content. Moreover, please add more verifiable sources, not only 3rd party sources. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion (
) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the article's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Begonia brandbygeana (talk) 15:04, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
File:Networksettings.png missing description details
[edit]is missing a description and/or other details on its image description page. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors make better use of the image, and it will be more informative to readers.
If the information is not provided, the image may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

File source problem with File:M1a1fire.gif
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:M1a1fire.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. File:Rookid.jpg listed for discussion
[edit]The file File:Sandbox.jpeg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Tiny photo of a sandbox - too small for an encyclopedic use.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. B (talk) 14:59, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

[edit]File permission problem with File:Richmond the Dragon.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Richmond the Dragon.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add OTRS pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as non-free fair use or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. B (talk) 15:08, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
