[edit]Hi RoshiniA, I will be putting my comments here.
Lead section
[edit]- Change "canyon like" to "canyon-like" in the first sentence.
- The first sentence could be better phrased as "[...] is a canyon-like environment where the street is flanked by buildings on both sides"
- "Some such examples include" would be better phrased as "These include" for conciseness.
Street canyon geometry and classification
[edit]- Place the reference note "[1]" at the end of the first sentence.
- In the sentence "But now the term street canyon is used in a more broader context ...", change "more broader" to "much broader".
- Missing space after the first and second sentences. And please check other sentences for missing space as well.
- Use en-dash instead of hyphen in the listed item "Regular canyon - aspect ratio", others as well.
- In the sentence "A sub-classification of the above ...", do you mean the sub-classification of "deep canyon"?
- In the sentence "Another classification is", it would be better if you specify that such classification is based on symmetry.
- In the bullet entry under "Another specific type is", try to combined it with the main sentence since there's only one bullet entry.
- In the sentence "A SVF of 1 denotes that the sky is completely visible or a flat terrain", change "or a flat terrain" to "for example, in a flat terrain". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geoalchimista (talk • contribs) 19:15, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
This section describes several classification schemes of street canyons. The reviewer would like to know why these classification schemes should matter. Their relevance to the effects of street canyons may be described briefly to facilitate transition into the next section.
Street Canyon Effect
[edit]In titles of the subsections, "effect" should be used in its plural form. Remove "the" in "the temperature, wind speed and wind direction" and "the air quality".
Lead sentences
[edit]- Place a comma after "As mentioned earlier".
Effect on temperature
[edit]- A hyperlink to "urban heat island effect" would be good.
- Put the Fahrenheit degrees in parentheses, not Celsius degrees, because usage of Celsius degrees is preferred in science.
- What does illumination refer to in "Studies of temperature phenomena consider illumination [...]"? Does it mean the radiation received within a street canyon?
- No need to capitalize "North-South"
- Change "were found as having" to "were found to have"
- In the sentence "the quicker the urban canyon will cool...", change "quicker" to "more quickly".
- In the sentence "A study done by Nunez and Oke investigated...", a reference note to the original article is needed.
Effect on wind
[edit]- Change "TKE" to "turbulent kinetic energy", because this acronym is not defined above and it is only used once in this article.
- In "The resulting flow patterns inside the canyon depends on", change "depends" to "depend".
- Why is there channelization effect? It would be better to explain it a little bit in detail. The page of Bernoulli's principle might be relevant.
- In the sentence "In the increasing order of aspect ratio these flow regimes are;", change the semicolon to colon.
- What are these flow regimes? May be try to put footnotes to explain briefly what they are, or try to hyperlink them to their Wiki pages (if exist). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geoalchimista (talk • contribs) 19:55, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
- In the sentence "The total number of vortexes...", change "vortexes" to "vortices" and "intensity" to "intensities".
- Change the semicolon in "Numerical model studies;" to a comma.
- There should be an "of" after "become independent".
- Remove the semicolon in "in a step-up canyon; where the upwind building is shorter"
- In "For a downwind building height Hd to upwind building height Hu ratio of 3", the variable names "Hd" and "Hu" should be better put in math format.
Effect on air quality
[edit]- In "increases the dispersion inside the street canyon", the word "dispersion" has ambiguous meanings in different sciences. It should be specific that this means dispersion of pollutants.
- In "[...] and also pollution entertained in to the canyon", "entertained" should be corrected to "entrained".
- Words like "Ultrafine particles", "Carbon dioxide" are not necessary to be capitalized.
Effect of GPS signal reception
[edit]This section has only one sentence. Try to describe it a bit more in detail, like how such effect differs depending on street canyon geometries.
