I pasted the installation code into common.js with a link to the local wiked.js file but after refresh the editor does not appear (it does appear when i link to Cacycle's user page on wikipedia...)

any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Paul (paulbarris@yahoo.com)

Paul -

I sent some more detailed instructions to your email, that you listed above. Also I have posted a working version of my FAQ/instruction sheet (as Cacycle suggested) here: User:HeathersAngel/wikEd_Local_Install

Take Care, Brian

Protection.

[edit]

Yes, it should, and has, been removed. Adding the template to a page does not protect it. Only administrators can semi-protect or protect pages. Read Wikipedia: Protection policy for more information. Acalamari 16:06, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to help. :) Acalamari 22:24, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Response to Amanda Michalka.

It depends how reliable the magazine is, and if you can find a source on the web. Information like that needs a reliable source, and information about her and Joe Jonas is continually added but is never sourced. If you can find a reliable source, then it can be added. Currently, the information is just original research whenever it's added. Acalamari 01:46, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome for the help. However, I don't believe an image is a reliable source; you'll need to find text to source it. Acalamari 02:04, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Protection

[edit]

According to protection log the Incarnation (Christianity) was never protected. This points to me that you might not be familiar with the actual Wikipedia:Protection policy nor that you are aware that only Wikipedia:Administrators can actually protect the pages. Even then, protection templates are not mandatory and it is certanily possible to protect a page without an visible sign (other than in the protection log). Not to mention that you have put a wrong type of protection template. If you wish to request a protection of a page (since you are not an administrator) please visit Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. I would also like to add that it doesnt look like the Incarnation (Christianity) should be protected at this time as it is vandalised only sporadically. Please read Wikipedia:Vandalism and consider instead warning the vandals to stop vandalising. Shinhan 10:26, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, sorry. I now noticed it was just vandalism revert. I shouldve checked the history more thoroughly. Now it seems it was Randy6767 who put that protection template. You probably didnt even notice it. Shinhan 18:08, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Thanks!

[edit]

You're welcome! Yeah take it as a sign that you must be doing something right if someone decides to vandalise your talk page. ;-) Regards. Will (aka Wimt) 16:46, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!

[edit]

Hi there. I see that you are offering help with installation/usage of the MediaWiki software. Just thought I'd drop a note - cos I'd like to know more. :) Mebbe I could steal a userpage design for you?! :D grin grin. Take your time in replying. I'm logging outta WP now. Will be back only by sometime around 4:30 UTC. Cheerio! aJCfreak yAk 01:07, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Amy Bruckner

[edit]

Thanks for the congratulations! I've deleted a few pages already. :) Anyway, with Amy Bruckner, I've removed the NNDB link again. With her birthday, all you need to do is find one (or if you want, two reliable sources), and then go the talk page explain your what you've done. With the edit war, you don't need to worry about that at the moment; your edits have taken place over a few days, not 24 hours (see WP:3RR, unless you've seen it already). There is a similar situation on Asia Nitollano where revert wars over her birthdate are common (unfortunately, there are no sources for her birthdate either). If you have a reliable source or two for Amy Bruckner's birthday, and another user reverts you, they are going against what the sources say and not you. If you need any more advice, please let me know. Acalamari 01:50, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Responded on the article's talk page. Acalamari 03:02, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! And your request...

[edit]

Lol, you actually want to pay me for making a design for you, dear Rockerbaby? :) Well, let me think what I should ask as a fee, hmmm... how about a smile and that you go out there and try to cheer up someone in need of a little support? ;) Seriously now, any preferences (colors, layout, etc) or should I just unleash my creativity? Love! :) Phaedriel - 22:14, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The best thing to do is keep removing the link, and warn the person re-adding with {{subst:uw-spam1|Amy Bruckner}}, and if they keep adding it, advance from {{subst:uw-spam1|Amy Bruckner}} to {{subst:uw-spam4|Amy Bruckner}} every time they add it. I could semi-protect the page, but that would be misuse of my administrator abilites, as I'm only semi-protecting the page over a minor issue. Hope that helps! installing MediaWiki

[edit]

I have tried to install MediaWiki on my computer, but I didn't succeed :-( Now, I saw accidentally on your user page that it is not a problem to ask some help, so I was thinking "let's try again". There isn't much information if you want to install it just on a computer, so I want to ask you if you can help me. Thank you very much, SPQRobin 19:27, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I found this page: http://www.blindedbytech.com/2006/08/31/how-to-install-wikipedia-for-offline-access/. This page, except the Wikipedia database dump, is very interesting. I have followed this, but I am stuck where it says "If you now visit http://127.0.0.1/wikipedia/, you should get a splash page saying to “setup the wiki” first. Follow that link, and you should get a “Site config” page." If I visit http://127.0.0.1/wikipedia/ I don't see that, but I just see a link to the mediawiki-1.10.0.tar.gz file. Can you help me, please? SPQRobin 20:42, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have installed yesterday WinRAR, but how can I decompress the file? SPQRobin 11:10, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It works now, thanks anyway :-) SPQRobin 18:13, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

[edit]

I have granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, you can be trusted to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck. Thanks a lot in advance. Vjdchauhan (talk) 16:03, 8 April 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Mediawiki installation

[edit]

Hi, I seem to have found your page like everyone above... I'm having a lot of trouble installing mediawiki. I have now tried 3 times, using 3 different methods, all to no avail. The latest attempt involved installing WAMP, but I couldn't even get http://localhost to open. What I'm trying to do is set it up for offline use on my laptop, and I have few computer skills. I'd appreciate your suggestions. Thanks, Exploding Boy (talk) 00:22, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Remove "MediaWiki has been successfully installed." message

[edit]

I've got my wiki installed but I want to get rid of the "MediaWiki has been successfully installed." message on the main page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scottgun (talkcontribs) 17:47, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
