Replaceable fair use File:CoA - Green Bay.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:CoA - Green Bay.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 23:49, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for February 4
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited ECHL All-Star Game, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Orlando Solar Bears. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

- So, in English, what does this mean? Eventually I'll be uploading a few more files from people who are sending me files, so I'll need to know the proper way/steps for uploading to satisfy the criteria. As to this file, I did receive permission from Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston. I still have the email if you want me to forward it to you.
Roberto221 (talk) 23:18, 23 May 2015 (UTC) What it means that we don't use more strictly copyrighted images, where it is possible to have one under a free licence. Someone could take a photo of the Basilica (or any building) and upload it here under a free licence like {{cc-by-sa-3.0}}. There is a difficult to read page at Wikipedia:Declaration_of_consent_for_all_enquiries about how third party images are dealt with but in essence they email permissions-en@wikimedia.org clearly stating that a certain image is under a certain free licence and one of the volunteers there will permanently record the permission - Peripitus (Talk) 10:46, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

Cathedral Images
Are you aware of Commons:OTRS? I've seen it used successfully with some of the county courthouses in Iowa. I'm not sure where you're at with the cathedral photos, but it might be a solution to your copyright situation. Farragutful (talk) 13:35, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

(I thought I would put this here as well as on my page.) Place the 'subst:OP' template below the "Information" template on the regular "File" page (the one with the photo on it) and above the 'int:license-header' (Licensing).Farragutful (talk) 00:15, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
Alaska co-cathedrals
I completed the article Our Lady of Guadalupe Co-Cathedral (Anchorage, Alaska) this morning. If you are able to get a photo of it you can place it there. When I was researching the co-cathedral in Anchorage I came across an article that said that the bishop of Juneau had filed a petition to have St. Paul the Apostle Church in Juneau declared a co-cathedral. I don't see a reason to do anything until the decree is granted, but there could be another in the next year or so. Farragutful (talk) 15:35, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
Re: Coat of Arms for Bishop Michael Sis, San Angelo Texas
Hola Roberto!
Gracias .

Catholic lists
I just looked up List of Catholic bishops of the United States. What we have now are two lists of the same subject on the same page. On the List of the Catholic dioceses of the United States we replicate the List of the Catholic cathedrals of the United States page in the galleries. These pages are supposed to be lists and should primarily function that way. It seems they have gotten a little out of hand and contain more than what they should. I'm wondering if it wouldn't make more sense to set up tables similar to List of cathedrals in the United States. The bishops page would still be divided according to province and then the bishops would still be listed by diocese. There would be space for their coat of arms next to their names. User:SajoR created many of the CoA's (coat of arms) maybe he could create them for the auxiliaries and the emeriti. Another possibility is to only provide the CoA of the ordinary and list the other bishops in the diocese without a CoA. The Catholic cathedrals page could look similar to the general cathedrals page and would have an image of the cathedral. The diocesan page would have a similar table and the cathedral image could be placed with the name of the diocese. We could also add their CoA, or use it in place of the cathedral image. Some of the dioceses do not have a free version of their CoA yet so they cannot be added if that is the case. The Sui iuris churches would also be included as they are now. It would take some work, but it would clean up these pages and make them less cumbersome. I would be willing to set up the tables. I did most of the states on "List of cathedrals in the United States" over a period of time. It doesn't have to be done all at once. Farragutful (talk) 12:48, 23 June 2015 (UTC)
- (From my talk page) Re: Catholic Lists: "You mean like what I've done to other pages"
- Yes, exactly. I think those are cleaner and provide a more user friendly page. (Nice work, by the way.) Farragutful (talk) 17:15, 23 June 2015 (UTC)
Re: List of Catholic bishops of the United States
I would change the first column to "Province" and move the archdiocesan name to the same column as the suffragan sees. The province column should then have the name of the archdiocesan see city without a link, ie Anchorage. The suffragans are not subservient to the metropolitan. The archbishop is first among equals and not the superior of the suffragan bishops of the province. The only place he has authority is in his own see. And the only thing he really gets to do is preside at meetings of the provincial bishops. On his own he cannot set policy in the other dioceses, or make any other decisions. Farragutful (talk) 12:20, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
- I just took another look. The diocesan coat of arms and logos that are not free images, ie Columbus and Des Moines, need to be removed. They can only appear on the diocesan page. Otherwise, it's a possible copyright violation. I would also remove the blank shields from the bishops whose coat of arms do not yet exist. They don't need a place marker, and look a bit silly. The blank shield is also not his coat of arms. Farragutful (talk) 12:28, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
- A couple more thoughts. Why have you moved the bishops emeriti to a separate listing? I think they belong in the regular listing as they are clergy of their respective sees. Also, I question calling the table "Roman Catholic Bishops". They are really Catholic Bishops of the Roman Rite. Technically, there is no such thing as the Roman Catholic Church. It's just the Catholic Church. I would hope the bishops of the Suri Uris churches will also be added to a similar table. They appear to be an afterthought now and I think they should be listed in the same way to communicate they are equally Catholic. Farragutful (talk) 21:16, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
