DVD region code edit

I noticed you made each table heading a section title, and then suppressed the table of contents. I believe that generally, such markup is used to add sections to the article itself, rather than to the table, which isn't really intended to be split up (from Manual of Style (Headings)). I didn't realise that those two infoboxes depended on those links. However, I'm confused as to what they have to do with the article on DVD region codes Ahh! I see...they link to that region table. My apologies...I didn't get what you were on about the first time. And that was probably me that removed the headings last time - I assumed the intention was to bold the table headings. For example, in HTML, people often use <h1> to <h6> tags, not for headings, but to get a heading style, when really CSS should be used. I assumed the same things had happened here. Sorry!

However, I still don't think having (a) no TOC or (b) having a TOC with an entry for each region and (c) having ugly [edit] links everywhere is optimal. Instead, why don't we use a span class like it says here and here to get an anchor for the infobox links without actually making them HTML *headings*? To show what I mean, I've created a demo for linking to Region 4 (as an example) at User talk:124.148.73.199/Temp to show how such a thing can work. Was watching this 'cause I came here to ask you why you wanted the account created. You probably know this, but you might wanna put the {{doppleganger|your username}} template on the user page for the other account like my twin here. I'm not sure whether I can be of any help here. I don't have Toolserver access, nor a way to run Perl scripts, but someone who has access to the toolserver may help. Apparently, there is a similar script at http://tools.wikimedia.de/~escaladix/larticles/ , but I can't get it to get any meaningful results. Image restoration

I'd be happy to undelete Image:Jarsofclay valleysong.jpg. As an aside, the only contributor, and, author was notified of a missing fair use rationale on 9/28/07, Approximately 11 days ago. CSD I6 states among other things: "Non-free images or media claiming fair use but without a use rationale may be deleted seven days after they are tagged. " and, "The boilerplate copyright tags setting out fair use criteria do not constitute a use rationale.". Therefore, I do not beleive that my deletion was inappropriate. Sorry about the time it has taken to get back to you. As for the page though, the “wikidate” format is by no means the official style (see here: Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers). The “wikidate” is only used in talk pages. As for the removal of WEA/Warner, I only did that because it is the parent company of Reprise Records and the source (in this case Billboard magazine’s Web site) only lists the parent companies on band discography pages. FL Main page proposal

You either nominated a WP:FLC or closed such a nomination recently. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual content will resemble the current content at the featured content page. Such output would probably start at the bottom of the main page. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. Oops, sorry! I should have made it clearer. If you look on the Lambeosaurus page, in the pink taxobox, there is a list going down. Lambeosaurus belongs to the Kingdom Animalia, the Phylum Chordata, etc. At the bottom, you see it belongs to the Genus Lambeosaurus and there are four species. The species and genus level names appear in italics, but the rest should not. What I meant was, if you can make the template work for all these different levels, (no italics on the higher-up level names, but italics on the bottom two levels), the template will be awesome. If there could be some way to toggle italics on or off (some sort of choice on the wikispecies part of the template), that would rock. I don't understand why you created the shortcut in the first place. Signatures contain piped links, as you know, and are therefore unneeded. You must understand that, although it was used in various discussions, it was just promulgated by you. Yes, now certain users identify you by that shortcut, but I believe it was not the best idea to begin with.

I believe my CSD action was the correct one. WP:CSD#R2 clearly states that redirects (which include shortcuts) to the Talk:, User: or User talk: namespace from the article space can be speedily deleted. It clarifies that it does not include the Wikipedia shortcuts to pseudo-namespaces, but although your shortcut contained the WP: prefix, it directed to userspace, not to wikipediaspace. In other words, the exception only applies to pseudo-namespaces like Wikipedia, Categories, Templates, and Portals. For the full list of pseudo-namespaces, check out Wikipedia:Shortcut#List of prefixes.

Look, just try and see it from my perspective: I have an established and well-respected user, with many exemplary contributions, but who created a shortcut for his own use. I generally don't have a problem with that specific issue, given that the shortcut isn't in use for a policy and it's not harming anyone. But there is a serious underlining problem here: if you have a shortcut for your username, why can't everybody else? Why can't the other 5,500,000 registered accounts have their own shortcuts? And why can't they have two or three at the same time? If I, as an administrator, would allow this, it would create one of two precedents: (1) that I think shortcuts for usernames is acceptable, or (2) that I showed favoritism towards an exemplary user. I don't support any of these two assertions (even if the user has done great things), and I certainly would not make a decision that would appear that I support them.

I didn't want to be put in this situation when I first deleted the redirect, nor do I want to be in it now. I assumed you were aware of the discussion since nominators are pressured to warn the creators. In any case, I'm sure we can find a compromise to the situation. Bot help

I'll be able to run it briefly tonight, but if you have AWB access you might want to do it yourself (my bot uses AWB anyway). To do this:

1. Load an article list using the "whatlinkshere" function for WP:RAD
2. Filter the list so that it includes all namespaces except user talk (as this may annoy people otherwise)
3. Use the NORMAL find and replace to replace all instances of WP:RAD with User:Lincalinca. Don't include wikilinking, just change the link value.

Remember not to run this on talk pages; people will get annoyed by the new messages bar. You could run through talk archives though. When I get the chance to run it tonight, I'll try to run through and clean up if you didn't get the chance to do it all. Once we get 2 more GAs (one album, one single, preferably), move pretty much all of the articles to at least high end start, low end B class, the main powderfinger article, the discography and the divide article and Side Projects article up to mid-high B class (not to mention finally passing this bloody discography FLC), and building up bernie's article to be a GA, we're pretty much a shoe-in to get Powderfinger as a featured group, for certain. I have a friend going to the ARIAs, who's a very accomplished photographer, so he said he'd take some pics and put them on CC. That should easily be able to be a Featured Image, based on the quality of his work so far. I'll let you know more as I go.

I do have a request, though: do you have the Dream Days DVD? If so, can you see if the directorial credentials are noted? We're having trouble sourcing directors for some (particularly, Bless My Soul and These Days) and would like them all for the discog article. If you could look and add them if you have them, that'd be great! Thanks mate!

Fall Out Boy discography

The changes you made to the music video section. I like the use of the infobox discography for consistency but the reason I hadn't used it is because it doesn't have the option for music videos. The peach puff color used indicates there is an error, in this case, the use of "Music videos" as it's not an accepted field. Just thought I'd let you know that having a Portal:Powderfinger might not be the best idea of ideas... portals about bands and other narrow-scoped topics often end up unsuccessful, forgotten about, and abandoned in a particularly bad state. Buster Smith

Nice work on the article, that's exactly what I was hoping someone would do. I had actually stumbled across it while working on paring down Wikipedia:Music encyclopedia topics, a really long (40,000+) list of music topics (mostly from the Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians), and just noticed that it looked suspicious. I see you're active in lots of music topics; if you're ever searching for something to work on, there are a lot of ideas there, not so much in recent popular music, but lots of jazz. Hey dude. Reading your RFA reminded me of my first attempt. I think responding to too many of the opposes was counterproductive, it ended up dragging more opposes into the deal. If it was me, I'd just let the RFA continue to its conclusion, you'll get more (hopefully constructive) feedback and should no real consensus be made, you'll have some ideas for when you hit it the second time (like I did).

The big deal here seems to be the fair use for images "problem". I know it's difficult, I've barely got my head around it myself, but should you need to get in some practice/defence for the future, I've got an idea. I've allowed bot edits to be placed on my Watchlist and as you probably know, Betacommandbot is a frequent visitor to many, requiring them to adjust their fair use rationale etc for images they've uploaded. A lot of people whinge about it, but in general the bot is 100% right. What you could do is, once you've got a grip on the fair use policy, follow Betacommandbot around for a while and correct the images it's tagging - a bit gnomish but after a while it'll show a definitive grasp on what's required for Fair Use rationales etc.

A few weeks spending time at XfD/NPP wouldn't do any harm at all, just to keep the persistent oppose "...lack of XfD experience..." at bay. Finally it's worth emphasising your great contributions in getting articles up to GA and FA. A lot of people are keen are encyclopaedia developers as well as encyclopaedia protectors.

Hey dude. Hmm, editing policy pages. Yuck. Definitely not my thing, never will be. My successful RFA's turning point really came when I made a strong effort to get some FA's under my belt and making a bunch of Wikipedia-space edits (so AFD, CFD etc). Edit count is nonsense, my first RFA failed with me on around 21,000 so it's no indicator either way. Obviously a minimum level of experience is required but beyond a few thousand it's much of a muchness. I would strongly advocate doing some bot chasing and see if you can add good, accurate and correct templates and fair use rationales to those tagged by Betacommandbot, it shouldn't be too hard to find some! More Powderfinger business

Did you add this to the article a way back? If you did, would you be able to track down the source of where you heard this (e.g. newsletter)? It's among the only areas in the article that isn't sourced, and it'd be great if we can get this sourced as soon as possible. Yeah, I did add it. I read it in a magazine (Drum Media, Impress... one of them, can't remember which though). I'll tryt o get something more rock solid about it. Are you near Civic at all? Maybe you should head up to Landspeed Records. The guys in there were always really helpful to me whenever I had musical trivia, and usually they'd be forthcoming with their resources too (mind you, it's been years since I was in there, not since they were above Valentino's in Garema, and I think it's near the Nightclubs now... anyway...).
