There is this rare bug in AWB or the MediaWiki API that causes it: Wikipedia_talk:AutoWikiBrowser/Bugs#Page_blanking_still_.28or_againily.29_occurring. It used to interfere with talk pages, that's now fixed, page blanking can still occur, though fortunately very rarely (less than 1 in 100,000 for sure). Rjwilmsi 10:45, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Your bot's inclusion of location data for The Times

Hi, This [diff] causes consternation. The Times is a singular appellation for the name of the newspaper published in London. It does not require the addition of location data to clarify it. All other newspapers incidentally called The Times may require such location data, to differentiate them from The Times. Could you change the behaviour of your bot to reflect this practice? No, bot's behaviour follows the template documentation. Location is needed since, for example, for Wikipedia readers in Los Angeles or New York, The Times means The LA Times or NY Times and not The Times in London as it would for UK/European readers. Rjwilmsi 14:31, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

References being moved into Persondata

Just wanted to let you know [1] [2] [3] that when the Bot is filing out persondata, if there is a reference with the information in the infobox then that reference is copied to the persondata. Personendaten

You will be surpiced but there is a {{Personendaten}} with 112 transclusions. I encountered a case where AWB added PERSONDATA under it. A Journey

Just a note to say I modified an edit by your bot to the above article. I think Black Dog is the name of a column in the Mail rather than an actual person, so I've changed the parameter from first/last= to author=. Should be ok now. Cheers TheRetroGuy (talk) 18:15, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

Minor note

Just a minor note: your bot made the following change, [4], which added the title to a ref, but when it did that it inserted a hard HTML break into the title. AWB has a recent tidy-up feature to allow template redirects to be bypassed while performing other edits. In this example {{cite paper}}, which redirects to {{cite journal}} was replaced with {{cite journal}}, to no immediate consequence. edits to Royal Dutch Shell environmental issues using AWB

Hi. I noticed you made some edits to Royal Dutch Shell environmental issues.. In fact that page shouldn't be edited as it is currently tagged with a copyright cleanup notice - it says so in the notice. Anyway your edits are not really problematic in this case, but I wondered if you were aware of that point?

Particularily I wondered if Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser hid the copyright template from you or something? If so it might be worth mentioning it to the tool creators - since pages with Template:copyviocore shouldn't be edited - I guess the program could spot this..

There's no logic in AWB to alert the user to such templates, I didn't notice it (only checking the validity of my edit rather than for any such templates). I'm not sure if AWB should prevent editing of such articles as editing is allowed in order to resolve the copyright issue, AWB could be used for that. Rjwilmsi 16:20, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Technically (at least according to the template message) editing of the main page should not be done. Attempts to make a copyvio free page are done at a subpage. I'm not an expert on the copyright violation procedures or templates. If you feel it's clear cut then the copyvio templates could be made to include {{bots|deny=AWB}} then AWB would automatically skip articles tagged with copyvio. Bot error 2

Howdy again. You had noted here that you had corrected the parsing problem with your bot, or perhaps you just meant you corrected it by hand. It seems to be continuing with any money.cnn.com reference, there are about 50 recurrences still in the wild. Is there a way to 'blacklist' that particular site for your bot?  Done Okay, cleanup complete and that error fixed for the future too. Detail if you're interested: CNN is annoying in that their website uses a whole host of different HTML layouts/format for their various pages, so scraping the write title/date/author information isn't straightforward like it is for say BBC News.
