Roman Triumph
[edit]Thank you! That was a very useful addition. If you've a cite for this being the last such entry by a Holy Roman Emperor (described as a Triumph in any primary or secondary source), we'll be safe and solid. Haploidavey (talk) 20:30, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note (and the kind remarks - I've left the article in a frightful mess for far too long). You don't need an additional cite for this as Roman Triumph; it's listed as such in the "Revived" Fasti Triumphales of 1550-ish, which I've already cited to Beard's Roman Triumph - the latter's a pretty decent source, but excessively revisionist-skeptic for general encyclopedic use. Haploidavey (talk) 21:03, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- On the other hand, you've found an excellent source that reinforces the validity of content that some readers might otherwise tag, asking for more or stronger sources. Good stuff. Haploidavey (talk) 21:15, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- And with you. I'll transfer some of the quoted material from your second citation into the main text. It's illuminating. Haploidavey (talk) 21:30, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hey, don't want to break your stride, but the scholarship you're using for the triumphal ludi is rather ancient, and has been superseded. You might take a look at the Gladiator article, in particular the material on St Telemachus (see the section on the games' decline). The ban seems to have been somewhat less effective than the martyrologists assume; viz the repeated legislation against the munera. Haploidavey (talk) 16:41, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- The detail's most definitely relevant to the article, as it illustrates some of the things that went on at triumphs. But it's the possible last of a very long sequence of munera; and it's probably the last attested historical munus given as part of Triumphal Ludi. I know what you mean about ancient sources; starts getting complicated when we consider the issues pertaining to primary and secondary sources in the ancient world. Strictly speaking, Foxe is a secondary source... but more modern sources are more likely to offer a critically historiographic approach to Foxe's martyrology, and to his sources. Is Livy a primary or secondary source. Probably both, as he acknowledges his debts to predecessors, in the ancient scholarly tradition. But we don't take his word for anything; we filter his own very considerable scholarship through the critical eye of sound, peer-reviewed modern scholarship. - Thanks so much for cleaning up my, umm.... inaccuracies (messes). Sometimes I can barely see what I'm writing. I might - or rather shall, at some point - either open a general section on Triumphal ludi or, more likely, make sure that the descriptions of specific Triumphs include more on their ludi. One of several yawning voids in the article... such as the triumphs of Scipio, Sulla, Caesar, Crassus etc. Haploidavey (talk) 18:18, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
Please stop changing the article their are other journalists that have award winning in the lede, and why does it matter ? it don't. I want to thank you for the other edits, it looks better than what did. Thank You Sincerly ACase0000 (talk) 21:30, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
ISBNs
[edit]Just so you know, you shouldn't Wikilink or put a colon after ISBN. Then it will generate an ISBN link to the book search page. Yworo (talk) 19:38, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
