Help request about paywalled sources
[edit]Thanks @KylieTastic for the quick response and Happy New Year! I now better understand the requirements and working on getting better sources for references. I plan to use regional broad-base and business-focused newspapers, but was initially cautious of their use because two of the best options have some content behind pay-walls.
This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
What impact does the use of (partially) pay-wall protected content have? Also does the same requirement for sources exist for external links that are not included as citations? For example the web-archive of the company site, or public posts? Summanoid (talk) 16:23, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
- I was accidentally still logged in as a now defunct user initially created to learn - I moved to Rickkoter (talk) 16:28, 2 January 2024 (UTC) under which the article was initial drafted and intend to publish.
- You need to be careful when using that old account. While it is allowed to have more than one account, there are restrictions on how you use them. Please see WP:MULTIACCOUNT for more details.
- Paywalled sources may be used. There are no restrictions except that a non-paywalled version of the same material might be preferred. Many of the reviewers and other editors likely have subscriptions of their own or through an institution they are associated with which will allow them to view the sources.
- Web archives can be cited when the original web page no longer exists or has changed to make it unsuitable.
- External links not used as citations are governed by the external links policy: WP:External links
- Generally, an article does not need external links; they are entirely optional and including them in a draft is probably a waste of time. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 16:55, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
- Basically as Jmcgnh said :) - frankly although accessible sources are best, a pay-walled one is way better than PR. Many reviewers and experienced editors also get access to a lot of sources via Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Library. It can obviously take longer to find a reviewer with access if notability requires such sources. KylieTastic (talk) 17:04, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
